3D printers are really hot these days. Market value of companies producing such devices is going sky high and new achievements are hitting the news regularly. Examples range from printing a working gun to attempts to print an tasty pizza. It makes one think of the 'replicator' all of the Star Trek fans have known for many years. When it comes to our hobby, LEGO, I wonder how this evolution will reshape things in the coming years. There are already injection moulded after market parts (BrickForge, Brickarms, etc.), but what if the quality of 3D printers gets good enough for anyone to just make their own parts? That SNOT connector LEGO just doesn't make? No problem, I'll just print one. A new Roman helmet variant? Here it comes. The sky could be the limit: Just imagine... and next print it. I can imagine a time when people are sharing their designs in digital format for anyone to download and print at home. More indexing work for our staff but no more shipping needed, just download the file and print the piece in your own home. Are you excited? We'd love your opinion!

Today our event bricks were printed by a company I found here in Belgium (mijnblokje.be). They have a super printer that can print on anything and came highly recommended by some AFOLs. The design is by our graphics master Hinckley. There'll be one of these for each eventee. Here's how it looks:

Next year we're definitely aiming to have the event in May, so the Merlin card will a great deal. Actually, I'm already talking with LEGO about next years event, our 10th event, and hope to have the dates pinned soon.

Thanks for letting me know. Keep in mind that on Friday we go to Munich and will only return to Gunzburg late evening (see the 'Friday topic' for details). Depending on when she'll arrive your girlfriend might want to meet the group in Munich or whatever you guys prefer.

I guess you all noticed the slowness EB experiences from time to time. Ace has been investigating and tested a possible fix on our testboard. A few moments ago this fix has been implemented on this live board. We need all of you to monitor over the coming days the site performance (=speed) and also check for possible side effects of the fix (shouldn't be, but you never know). I'm on a holiday on the slowest internet connection ever, so I can't judge if the site goes fast or slow.

The event runs from 10h-18h in a 450m2 place (address: Klokkenlaan 1, 2560 Nijlen, Belgium). You can expect: - A massive Pirates display with a lot of ships and a large imperial (modular) fortress. - The first time the minifig scale Prins Willim (WIP) goes on display. - A nice city display (trains, classic city sets from the good old days, MOC cars, etc) - Lots of building space for the kids (we target this event a lot at the kids) with both LEGO System and DUPLO - A LEGO Cinema (showing the LEGO Megafactories documentary). - A chillout area for parents and visitors - Building contests (for kids) starting each hour - Pancakes for the hungry ones Discussion topic is here.

Now that the hotel is booked we started working on the detailed program for the Eurobricks Event 2013. A small taskforce had a conference call to workout the 2nd day of the event (Friday), which is the day we visit the beautiful city of Munich. The detailed program for that day is now available here.

A small taskforce (Holodoc, Grogall and myself) has done a Skype conference call to workout the Friday program, which is the day we go visit the beautiful city of Munich. Friday: 08:00: Breakfast 08:45: leaving the hotel by car to the Gunzburg train station 09:42- 11:21: Train from Gunzburg to Munich Central Station Next we do some visiting by foot: 11:35: Munich Frauenkirche (Kathedral) 11:50: Cityhall (old and new) 12:10: Altes Residenz, Theatinerkirche (go briefly inside), Hofgarten 13:00-14:00: Lunch in the Hofgarten biergarten 14:00-14:05: Passing by the Hofbrauhaus 14:05-14:30: LEGO shop Müller (Im Tal) 14:30: with tram to Toys'r'us 14:50-15:30: Toys'r'us 15:30: with tram to Nymfenburger schloss 16:00: Visit the Nymphenburger Schloss. 18:00: Dinner at Hirrschgarten 19:00-19:15: with s-bahn to the Passing LEGO brand store (this is the new one) 19:15-20:00: visit the Passing LEGO brand store 20:00-20:42: Have a drink while waiting for the train 20:42 (Passing station) - 22:15 (Gunzburg station) 22:30: Back at the hotel Should we run into time issues we might not do one of LEGO shop Müller or Toy'r'us. This is the default program, but of course anyone is free to visit the city on their own. Transportation: 1/ We'll go by cars from the hotel to the Gunzburg train station. Please indicate if you'll be coming by car to the event so we are sure we can transport everyone in one go. 2/ For the train, tram, s-bahn, bus we'll buy the Bayern ticket which costs €22 for one person but only €4 for each additional person (up to 4 additional persons allowed per ticket). That means we'll pay €22+€16=€38/5=€7.60 per person for the whole day. That's of course the ideal scenario if we will be a multiple of 5 persons, so count ~10 euro per person which is a great deal. Maps: We'll create 2 maps showing exactly how we'll go inside the city. You can download map 1 here. The 2nd map (for the 2nd part of the program) will be added soon.

With some luck the brandhouse is finished before the Eurobricks event in Billund in 2016
