Yes you can! (this was actually in the contest rules, see first post of this topic)
-
This post has the answer. Also have a look at the link in the answer.
-
Of course you are! As you can see there are a number of people looking still for a partner. I'm sure one of those would be happy to team up. Drop them a PM (or maybe they'll respond to you here in this topic).

A very warm welcome Bob! I was just telling someone that I find 'initiative' one of the most valuable characteristics in a Eurobricks staff member, so I love the initiative you took by starting this announcement topic of your promotion and asking people for idea's to improve the Sci-Fi forum.

That's a good looking ad. It would draw my attention
-
Both are allowed.
-
Each should be the size of a $85 (~75 euro) non licensed set set. Check this post for a good example. A bit both. I don't intend to be too strict on this unless people come with entries that are clearly out of the target range.

Yesterday afternoon and evening (EU time) our site has experienced some extreme slowness. Our investigation showed nothing wrong on our server, so we assume it was an issue in the providers network. Since things were slow anyway we did some upgrades (one needing a reboot) during the time. We'll continue to monitor and get in touch with the provider should this happen again.

Yes, that's totally ok! That's your call. You can, but it's not a must. In the spirit of the contest pls try to find another member from another country. I'm sure there must be good candidates around, no?
-
Both sets should be more or less in the 75 euro price range (so ~700pcs). A good reference set is this one (Croc Swamp Hideout) which costs 74,99 euro, counts 647 pcs and is not a licensed one: I'll get back to the other questions soon.
-
I suggest you have a look on the current LEGO porfolio (e.g. on Shop@Home) and see what kind of set size you can get for ~75 euro. Take a non-licensed set as reference since the licensed ones come with license costs included.

As only physically bricks can be entered, your designs have to be build one way or the other. But as this contest is about 'teamwork' you can try to find a partner willing to build the design which you make (with LDD/LDraw).

Excellent, the game is on Let's see which other teams stand up to challenge you

First of all, you can find out all about our new exiting Pirates Teamwork Contest in this topic. Once you've made a new topic for your entry in our pirate MOC forum, make sure to post the URL to your topic here in this 'entry overview topic'. This topic will be used to construct the voting topic, so don't forget this part!

I'm trying a new contest concept in our pirates forum, for which you have to work in a team of two to win an awesome prize. Check out the rules of the game here.

Credits to our member Mark of Falworth for the contest promo picture. Our first Pirates Teamwork Contest (PTC) is a bit different from the regular contests you have seen here on Eurobricks so far. This contest is not only about building, but also about working together. Just imagine you are a LEGO designer requested to make a brand new modular Pirate set with a retail price point of around 75 Euro (85 US dollar). However, LEGO wants to have a 2nd set of this new modular line ready at the same time the first one gets released, and this second set will be designed by another LEGO designer. Both sets have to be inter-connectable via technic pins. So this allows you to make for example 2 houses of the same pirate village, or 2 modular sets that make together one medium sized fortress, etc. So before you can start building you have to find a partner and together work out some things (what will you be building?, how will the 2 sets interconnect?, ...). LDD could help a lot to design the sets, but for entering the contest you need to make the sets with real bricks and post those pictures. You can use this thread as a starting point to find a partner, or instead PM/email another member with whom you like to team-up, ... . Because this process will take some extra time the contest will run for 2 months. To be clear, this doesn't have to be only about pirates - islander, armada, civilian and imperial are all welcome too as long as it fits with the 'pirate universe'. Need inspiration? Check out the MOC Indexes - in particular the Land-based MOCs - a wealth of ideas and techniques to explore. The Rules: The contest will run from January 1st till March 1st, so 2 months. Your 'partner' has to be from another country or, in case of the US, at least from another state. One entry per team which can be modified/replaced up until the deadline. Both modules must be interconnectable via technic pins Full customization is allowed, including decals, string, sails, 3rd party customs (e.g. Brickarms, Brickforge). Cutting and painting are permissible, but as the contest is judged by public vote, these may not be popular. I suggest visiting The Great Pirate Torso Library and the Sail Library Resource. All building techniques are allowed, including tiling and SNOT bases. No minifig limit. No clone brands No digital entries WIP topics are allowed if you like feedback during the building process All entries must be new creations that have never been displayed anywhere before Post max 10 pictures (maximum size 800x600) per module. You can link to an external gallery, where there are no image limitations. See these tutorials for help with resizing images and deeplinking. Submitting you entry: Each team entry (so the 2 modules) should be posted in one thread. So one of the 2 persons from a team posts both modules. All entry topics are to be created in the LEGO Pirates MOCs Forum. The topic title should be "PTC - Name1/Name2" with name 1 and 2 being the usernames of both the teammembers who've worked together. Once you've posted your entry, make sure to post the URL to your entry topic in the Entry Overview Topic. This topic, which is pinned in our LEGO Pirates MOCs Forum, will be used to construct the voting topic, so don't forget this part! [*]Judging will take place by a public vote. [*]Since nobody except me was involved in the preparation of this contest everyone can join, Eurobricks staffers included. The Prizes: Both members of the winning team each get 250 Euro (~334 US) credit for buying at Shop@Home, so the total price for the winning team is worth 500 Euro (~668 US). If you country doesn't have Shop@Home delivery we'll work something out! Now start working... together FAQ: Q: I can't send PMs. A: If you can't PM to other members it means you are still below 10 posts. So first make a few nice posts and that problem will be fixed.

Eurobricks Event 2014 - Sign-up Topic
Bonaparte replied to Bonaparte's topic in LEGO Events and User Groups
Oh, strange as he's in the chalet topic, but not here. I've added him (which made us reach the limit of 50). So no worries, he included and counted now It seems the last spot was not free anymore (see my reply above to Miss Kyle). I suggest you check if you could come and if yes I'll see what can be done. Drop me a PM if you would join and we'll discuss. The EB 2014 event is now FULLY BOOKED as we reached the maximum of 50 persons which is the limit for part of the program. You can still join if you like, but will have to skip few activities during the day. Drop me a PM if you like more details. -

That brings our total at 49 eventees. For parts of the planned program we have a maximum of 50 persons, so there's only room for 1 more! Anyone joining after that point will not be able to participate for some parts of the program. -

Bonaparte replied to Bonaparte's topic in LEGO Events and User Groups
Done! We are now at 46 eventees. With the maximum being 50 (for parts of the program) we are now almost completely full. And we didn't even make a frontpage post for promoting the event this year -

Great! Will you be coming alone or with family/friends? (I'm asking because I need to keep track of the number of eventees for parts of the program) -
Eurobricks Event 2014 - The Chalet Topic
Bonaparte replied to Bonaparte's topic in LEGO Events and User Groups
Aha, interesting! As Merlin took over the Billund camping they are now doing a big renovation and are bringing LEGO elements inside the camping and the chalets (that's also the reason for the huge price increase). I'm looking forward seeing the result of all this! -
LEGO requested me to point out they have many new job positions. Have a look here for an overview of all open positions. One interesting position is the one for graphic designers – characters and illustrations. Would you like to work for LEGO? There's a topic here for discussion.

Bonaparte replied to Bonaparte's topic in LEGO Events and User Groups
We now have 6 chalets booked and a 7th chalet is also full now, so it will be booked in the near future. We've made great progress with this -
Eurobricks Event 2014 - Information Topic
Bonaparte replied to Bonaparte's topic in LEGO Events and User Groups
Yes, there will be a program. Let's say it's a mix of the LEGOLand park, EB related activities (fun contests, workshops, ...) and some activities with LEGO (e.g. visit the LEGO museum).
