  1. Completed. Looking forward to seeing the results.
  2. ^ I got an email saying I would get the stickers, but the sticker sheet ever arrived. I also used the pdf to build. It was doable, but I much prefer paper instructions.
  3. If the white could be recessed a half or quarter stud, that would perfect.
  4. Raziel Regulus the builder/designer behind the Löwenstein Castle and Official Expansion is now designing sets for Blue Brixx. I see this as a good thing for us Castle fans as competition (and the loss of revenue) may force LEGO to pay more attention to the Castle theme. The Blaustein Castle by Blue Brixx is the type of theme I would like to see LEGO attempt. A large castle that has expansion after expansion added until you get a realistic castle or keep. Side note: In my opinion the rock work below ruins the castle. In the continuing theme of managing our own expectations: The above Castle is sold in four parts and has 1958+4852+5335+4461 pieces.
  5. Fair point. I adjusted the query to have a lower bound of $295 instead of $300 to include the Ninjago sets. SELECT * FROM Sets WHERE (USRetailPrice > 295) AND (USRetailPrice < 405) AND (YearFrom >= 2015) AND (Minifigs >= 1) ORDER BY SortKey ASC These three sets average 4,576 pieces with all three retailing for $300 USD. In my opinion two of the three sets represent the best value LEGO has produced in a set, ever. If 10305 resembles these; us fans will be beyond pleased.
  6. 100% agree. I love the blacksmith shop, but there are so many other medieval sets (all castles) on ideas I like more. I also expect a tradition closed wall castle with open interiors, just larger than anything we have seen before. It better be bley!
  7. In my continuing effort to keep my expectations reasonable, I thought it would be helpful to look at the sets released since 1015 that are priced around $350. BrickSet makes this easy: https://brickset.com/sets/query-8824 SELECT * FROM Sets WHERE (USRetailPrice > 300) AND (USRetailPrice < 400) AND (YearFrom >= 2015) AND (Minifigs >= 1) ORDER BY SortKey ASC As you can see from the 10 sets above, we already have two castles in the same price range as the rumored 10305 Lion King’s Castle 90th Anniversary Set. One being 71040: Disney Castle priced at $349.99 and the 71043: Hogwarts Castle priced at $399.99. On averaged there are just over 5,000 pieces in these two. But the average number of pieces of the above ten sets: 3,961, and there are multiple $400 sets above upping the piece count even more. After looking at the ten sets above and considering recent inflation numbers, I am lowering my piece count expectation to 3,500 to 4,000, anything above that is bonus. Of the above sets; the 71040: Disney Castle gives me hope.
  8. One thing I would love to see in this set, that would cause me to buy multiples: Like the lego mosaic line where you buy one and it looks nice. But you buy three, and you can built a larger more majestic piece. This could work so well with a castle. Say the mIn build is a sturdy keep. Buy 3 or 4 and you can build a wall around the keep. This would break all kinds of sales records.
  9. ^ Same. I do not prioritize animals at all in this set. We have plenty of opportunities to get four legged creatures in many of the other 1,000+ sets available. The castle structure has to be given priority, then figs, then animals if there is any budget left.
  10. Along the lines of setting expectations. I think it may be helpful to look at castles (mocs and sets) that contain a piece count between 3,000-5,000. The most obvious place to start is the Löwenstein Castle with Official Expansion. The Löwenstein Castle has 2002 parts and the expansion contains 1,627 parts; bringing the total to 3,629. Which is, I hope, on the lower end of the piece count for 10305. Some say that Löwenstein is not minifig scale, however in reality every castle set produced to date is not minifig scale. The closest we have come to minifig scale is 21325 : Medieval Blacksmith, more on that later. At this scale LEGO could produce a very realistic castle that pulls from many previous models. I would buy this, but I am expecting more. The most recent castle 31120: Medieval Castle has only 1,426 pieces. We would need to combine 3+ sets to get an idea of what 10305 may look like in size. DownUnder Bricks has done exactly this. The three sets combined contain 4,278 pieces, however the video explains that the moc below contains around 3,300 pieces, give or take. Once again, I would buy it, but I am expecting more than a simple square symmetric castle. Another interesting comparison would be a few 21325: Medieval Blacksmith sets. This set has 2,164 pieces. Three combined would get us to 6,492 pieces and an MSRP of $550.00. That is not realistic. So two combined would be 4,328 pieces and a $300 msrp. That is closer to what we should expect (maybe another 500 pieces tops). However, the scale of the Blacksmith shop does not fit with any of the rest of the Medieval sets. In reality, this set looks out of place next to any other official Medieval set. The picture below contains the higher end of the combined piece count we can expect from this set. Finally we can turn to the Ideas platform. The platform is limited to 3,000 pieces, which once again is at the lower end of reasonable expectations for this castle set. THE KING'S CASTLE - 2920 parts: CASTLE OF BRICKWOOD FOREST - 3,000 pieces CASTLE OF LORD AFOL AND THE BLACK KNIGHTS - 3000 Pieces THE MEDIEVAL FORTRESS (CASTLE) - 3,000 Pieces If the 90th Anniversary Set matches or exceeds any of the above castles, I will not be disappointed.
  11. I actually sold all my raised baseplates as they simply take up too much space. I can't say that I miss them at all. I can't wait to see what LEGO has in store for this set. It has so much potential and I am so sure* that it will not disappoint. * please LEGO don't mess this up, I am not stable enough to be let down.
  12. This castle suffers from the big bley wall syndrome. I recommend adding some texture to the walls. It lacks the wow factor that you see in many of the other castles on the platform.
  13. There is a %0 chance that this set will have a raised baseplate. It just does not make any sense.
  14. I have not heard any valid rumors of this being a 3-in-1. Squash that idea now as it makes no sense and there is no precedence.
  15. I just bricklinked 548 pieces (173 elements) costing me $140 shipped. I spent $48 less by "Part out as individual parts" on the minifigs, which is usually the case on bricklink. The rest of the pieces I pulled from my collection. I am looking forward to this build. @krtwood, thanks for the effort you put into this set, the final product looks great.
  16. We may have just gotten a look at what the box may look like: "90 Years of Play"
  17. I quit buying the collectable figs when the bar codes did not reveal the fig. I Am not wasting time feeling bags, or money trying to get the one or two I am interested in per series. I suspect that LEGO did the right thing though.
  18. Your breakdown further convinces me that all the sets are "real sets". I would add real sets from the past. The past, including that reference to our beloved #6080. I just don't see how LEGO would waste this opportunity by re-releasing a gatehouse. Especially one as basic as #6080. I just re-built #6080. I love it. However, in todays standards #6080 is lacking. Time will tell, but I would be shocked if the image above is indeed a preview of the 10305-lion-king’s-castle. P.S. I would buy it day one!
  19. As long as it is a "Castle", the community will love it. The name "10305 Lion King’s Castle" does imply that it is a Castle or more likely, knowing LEGO, a Keep. As long as 80% of the bricks go to the structure then LEGO can not go wrong with this one.
