LOSS also got, like someone here actually predicted, the Dragonbolt treatment- he's way bigger than his set form.

Oh yeah, you hate your life because you'll have to wait 10-20 days more? We've been waiting since July to get the sets, surely you can wait some more.

I think Kopaka is jumping there, not levitating. Or as someone said on YT, it might be the recoil of the blast.That's.. eerie, I had the same idea as well! That could be a way to give us new recoloured masks. Seeing those Chima sets, it seems Lego is finally doing something for army builder fans doesn't it?

I wasn't referring to comments about lasers (I kiinda agree with that, as cool as they were), mostly about those saying things along the lines of "this doesn't feel like Bionicle" or "it's just a HF repeat" (which, at this point, is little more than 4chan bait). They should at least try to explain those arguments instead of spouting them out over and over.

Wow, Lewa looked exactly like he did in 2001 when he landed . Must've been the pose and the creepy glowing eyes. Love the 2D style, but I like this a lot as well. Too bad some comments on the video are criminally stupid.

Those claws in silver look pretty useful, I should get a few of them.

Just watched them all and I have to say I love the animation, the colours, the backgrounds (the Region of Earth is gorgeous!) and the Toa' fighting style (very intense and creative). The narrator is good, though I'd really like to see a different VA for each character.. The Temple of Time tidbit is by far the most interesting part, though. Seems like that NYCC rumour about the Toa' arrival being linked to time was true! I guess they can go anywhere from here- keep their origin a mystery, explain it while keeping G1 and G2 separate..or drop a plot twist to link G1 and G2. And, somewhat trivial but neat: that gold/tr. light blue Protector mask the Protectors put on Ekimu looks really cool and useful. Maybe his (not yet confirmed, but you know) set features it? The gold Protector mask has been shown so often at this point that I can't help but wonder if we'll get it in a set, and this seems like a good candidate. I don't see the contradiction, all we knew from the first video is that Ekimu was knocked unconscious and the MoCr was lost. This one adds that the Protectors found him and he (somehow...unconsciously...) whispered the Prophecy. Unless you're talking about the "lifeless" tidbit, I think you can say that about a comatose or sleeping body as well, it doesn't necessarily mean dead. Yeah, I find spoiler tags to be really useful when your post ends up being too long. I use it to hide long paragraphs one might find annoying to scroll down through or to hide long-winded digressions not everyone might be interested in.I think that my mods to the Protector weapons would be mostly about replacing some fire parts for small blades (I'd definitely do it on PoJ). Sounds cool, never thought about that technique. Even though I'm not interested in the character and set myself, I'm looking forward to your revamped LOSS! It's not the fact that they spin, it's how they look and work. PoI's weapon is called an "ice saw blade" but the saw blade is perpendicular to its wielder, so it looks like a spinning shield with an awkward handle. PoE's weapon is a drill using a mace half, so it looks more incomplete rather than a "star drill" (which, at least to me, sounds like a coverup for "the budget didn't allow us to put a full mace in the set, so we came up with this"- not that I can blame them really). I just don't think they look good or functional, especially considering the weapons they're supposed to represent.Spinning weapons annoy me because of this- they often ruin the weapons designs and don't work that well (and those yellow bits, eeeh). That's why I call them gimmicks. The sets already have a very good function (the blasters) so I don't see the need to add another (half baked) play function which only ends up looking awkward and odd.

Those are some pretty cool ideas (never thought about giving PoJ olive green, it's a cool colour I wish came back but I'm not sure if it looks good with bright/apple green)! Mine are sort of similar.Toa in general: replacing the 2.0 torso shell with the Breakout one (more texturing, better looking), replacing red axles and blue pins with black copies, generally shorten/lengthen the legs so they're closer in height (rather than Pohatu being a midget compared to Tahu), replacing the yellow parts (the ones that shout "HEY KIDS, it means there's a function here!) with black or grey copies, make the bone colours more consistent (for example, making the upper legs dark bley like the upper arms), replacing the silver hands with ones matching the colours scheme better. 15 Euro Toa: 20 Euro Toa: Protectors: as I wrote the other day, I'm not sure of how many ones I'll buy and keep together, but the mods would be mostly about adding elbows and back armour, and rebuilding some weapons (I don't like the spinning ones like PoI's and PoE, too gimmicky). LOSS: not getting him (or her, that's a cool idea). I tried the combination IRL (the two greens I mean) and I think there's enough contrast, keetorange is about as bright as lime anyway and it works. I guess the silver armour and black/grey bones provide enough contrast for the combination to look good. Obviously I can't use 4M shells since they don't exist in lime, but if I stik with the lime idea I'll use 3M shells on the arms and 5M shells on the legs to replace the yellow.I really like the tr. bright green idea, though he'd have to keep the silver hands this way (which is something I'd possibly like to fix). Another idea I toyed with is tr. light blue (4M shells and hands exist in that colour), which is completely new for Lewa just like yellow is, but I feel it could work while staying close to his element (which I'm keeping as air- you know, the blue sky..). Lewa is the only Toa without any transparent element on his body (bones or shells), so these one of these two ideas could fix that. In the end, like Kopaka and Pohatu, I need to try the combinations myself IRL, there are too many elements missing which are vital to the sets' look (the add-ons, the masks, etc). Greg deserves my respect for this. I always thought it was a really dumb and forced idea. It would've been better to assign some powers to those (which exist in plastic) rather than to the comic mask designs Sayger had randomly come up with (which were still very cool mind you)..

That's a vaild point actually, I guess the nostalgia did cloud my judgement a bit this time. Also, now that I think of it tr. purple would probably look too dark as an eye colour, but I'm not sure.

You can argue that all Toa incorporate 2 or more of their G1 forms into their designs (ramblings below): Did I already post here? Suprisingly not, first off great review and great photos as usual VBBN. While Tahu never was my favourite Toa (that spot belongs to, surprise surprise, Lewa), he has a special spot in my heart, him being my first BIONICLE set along Gali (well, I had bought a Mask Pack a week or so before..but..yeah) and arguably the mascot of BIONICLE and its fandom. Which is why I'm getting him and Gali first (even though getting my hands on Lewa first is very, very tempting, but I'll resist). So, that being said, I think that out of the 6 Tahu is one of the best executed ones as a set, along, again, Gali. He has no odd or awkward design choices (like Kopaka's stupid thick legs or Pohatu's incredibly boring torso) and he has a good quantity of the new add-ons. And there's a lot to like about him: his colour scheme (normally I don't like tr. reddish orange, it looked awful on Laval and Cragger, but it looks fine here), his variation on the gearbox which coupled with the gold blades creates a unique look, and his gigantic swords/surfboard which is one of the best looking weapons in years. Also, I like the light blue eyes him and PoF sport, they look a whole lot better than the tr. neon green eyes Star Tahu and Furno got us used to (a terrible choice, IMHO). The best colour choice for him would be tr. pink (I think such a shade still exists but I'm not fully sure, please correct me if I'm wrong) or alternatively tr. purple (which is far more likely to appear and is still somewhat close to his classic pink eyes), but this is a good substitute. What I really don't get and plan to fix as soon as I get the set is the choice of silver hands and feet: they just don't make sense to me (red feet and tr. reddish orange hands would've been my choice), but every time I see odd colour choices like this I get the feeling they're done to recover unused parts that were overproduced, so I'll assume this was the case and I won't complain about it. That said, the "glove look" is overdone on the Toa and the Protectors so, as nice as generic colours like black and silver (and now dark bley as well!) are, I think Lego should start using coloured fists more and, hopefully, give us new colours in the future (like gold, which is surprisingly long overdue IMO). I'm surprised at how long this got, sorry. Tl;dr: Great set, don't like the silver feet and hands.
-
Noooo! That freaking rock add-on again! And they wasted a recolour for it at that! Now that I got that out of the way, I have to say I am split on this guy. The mask is amazing and I'm nothing short of grateful for TRANSPURPLETRANSPURPLETRANSPURPLE, but he's definitely too dark for me (some more silver accents would've looked fantastic), the weapons look pretty lame (both the star "quick, we must add something that spins or the kids won't buy it" drill and that knife they could've easily done without), and the chest gun is just too odd for my tastes. That said, I really like the mask, the body design (probably better than PoF's, since there's space for back armour) and of course trans Tamaru purple. I'll probably get him anyway, if not for the set definitely for the parts.
-
I think this guy might very well be my favourite Protector. The proportions, build and colour organization are flawless. The only things I don't like very much are the random looking vines on his/her feet (I'd rather have the character's element be recalled through subtler methods, like their colours) and the use of fire parts on the bow, I would've used a pair of small blades there instead. Both can be easily fixed, though.
-
I had roughly the same idea (my dream would be building the future Inika/Mahri), the masks are a big problem though. I know we can use the Protector masks (I agree, their secondary colours on top don't clash that much), but the idea of all villagers having the same mask (according to the animated episodes, ALL "Okotoan" wear the same mask) is still.. odd to me. So, say I wanted all Matoran- if we can call the Toa Masters, might as well refer to the Protectors as such, possible reproduction ability notwithstanding- to wear unique masks: 9 times out of 10 (yes, a statistic I made up on the spot) I'm going to face a lot of trouble. I mean, we don't have a yellow "Mask of Fire" or a sand blue/insert a similar shade here "Mask of Ice".I still want to try out something, though, if only for experimentation. Tahu's gold mask might look good for a Jaller MOC (yellow and gold were often seen as interchangeable in G1- see Lhikan, Glatorian Mata Nui, etc..), and, since Dark Azure is the closest thing we have to teal, a mix between PoJ's and PoW's pieces might create a decent Kongu. But I'm kinda lost about the others. As much as I like their masks, I wish the Protector sets were remakes/homages of the 01 Mctoran with the same level of faithfulness as the Masters to the 01 Toa Mata (is the sentence correct? Honestly, this pathetic non-native speaker can't tell). Maybe we'll see something like that in 2016, that would be a retcon would accept with open arms for once. Toa Nuva with whole new masks and "Matoran" wearing recolours of the 2015 Toa masks.. yesssss. Yes, I do plan to change some of the Toa' colours. I like Lewa's yellow, but since I have another green and yellow Toa of Air in my canon (whom I created years ago, around 2009- I thought it was an unorthodox colour scheme you'd never see on a set, so imagine my surprise when I saw 2015 Lewa!) I rather have Lewa go back to his, ahem, roots (lime) so there can be less repetition. Pohatu is definitely an odd one I have a hard time getting used to- I have two ideas floating around, both involving the removal of the very odd tr. neon green bones and a partial or total replacement of silver. The other Toa, I think their colours are spot on. Gali's titanium metallic is a very brave but very cool idea. Onua and Kopaka desperately needed more exciting colour schemes, and they're great ones (too much gold, though..)- interesting idea about giving Onua green highlights, I might try that out for fun. I have some reserves about Tahu's tr. reddish orange (it.. isn't.. a colour I can say I love), it looks good with gold and a transparent colour makes sense for a Fire Toa, but I wonder if solid orange would look better or not (again, I would've liked tr. flame orange more, but Lego seems to disagree with me). But, as I always say, just because I want to mod a set doesn't mean I dislike it (if I did, they'd just end up in the parts bin). All 6 Toa sets on their own are very, very good. I just want to make them a bit closer to their original forms (not very hard, they're already very faithful for the most part).

It's December, most themes get names or even pics of the Summer sets (HF rarely did, but I get the impression BIONICLE is going to get a slightly better treatment even from constraction haters) during the second half of the month. Plus the sets will hit the stores in most countries within a month or so. So we're just getting through a transition period, really- it's not going to be quiet for much longer. EDIT: And don't forget the tendency Lego picked up ever since 2012 to spoil Summer sets via pieces of animation, commercials and the like. I think we're getting something like that soon (actually, we might just already have coughTheLegendofEkimu&Makutacough). EDIT 2: I forgot, I like G2 Makuta's title. It really reminds you of the obsessive part of his personality nicely. Seems like, from the small number of glimpses we've got of him (so this might very well change), that he's less of a diabolical mastermind like post-2004 G1 Makuta and more of an unsettling madman driven by powerlust and envy, which is in a way closer to his 2001 persona and, arguably, Karzahni (one of my favourite G1 characters. I'm still mad he got treated like that). That's ok, I like genius villains but I like the insane ones as well (if he manages to be both, even better). I just hope that, since the reboot is supposed to get the 2001 atmosphere back, G2 Makuta is creepy enough, even though it looks like his form is closer to 2003 Makuta (no form ever came close to MNOG Makuta for me).

As much as I like her mask (going with the female gender like VBBN chose to, until proven otherwise), I think she's the weakest Protector overall. I can't say I love the propulsors (though the yellow is a great homage to Sub Slizer), they make her arms look awkward: I think connecting them as a backpack would've looked better, but I guess they were already at the limit in terms of parts count. The weapon is interesting but again, it looks kind of awkward when she's not swimming. Lastly, the colour choices are a mess, the arms and legs are too different in terms of colour organization, and the black looks out of place to me. It wouldn't have been that hard: use dark bley on the upper limbs, tr. light blue on the lower limbs, and silver for the hands and feet (I think most Protectors look better with silver feet actually). I guess I would've liked some dark azure on her torso, but the colour organization by far the biggest problem for me. I heard the green Spiders were actually supposed to be GITD, but they couldn't pull it off due to budget constrains. I'd like to see another Spider colour (hey, even two!), but only if the Spider is present as a side enemy (maybe with Ekimu and/or Makuta, without any storyline ties, a la Lhikan and Kikanalo). The Skull Spiders and LoSS are ok as starter baddies, but nothing more- I want real villains in Summer.

Not sure if they did that out of possible backlash (patriarchy.jpg) or for another reason. This way, it's less clear if they can truly reproduce or not. Though it did seem that PoF had a kid.

So Fire vs Ice 2 is the final Chima wave? Dang, that was fast. Did the sales fail or was this the original plan since the start? 2 years and half for a any theme is pretty good, but I get the feeling Lego was expecting a FAR longer and bigger success. Also, awesome to see more females among villains and positions of power. Hopefully BIONICLE follows suit!

Okoto Online Game [Chapter I Released]
Shakar replied to bionicle_fanatic's topic in LEGO Action Figures
That Tahu sprite is impressive. That's some high level pixel art right there. -
Everyone is saying he needs lower arms, but I actually think he needs upper arms instead. His legs in the set and the Fire villagers in the animated episodes follow that thin (just a single bone) upper limbs+bulky (bone+shell) lower limbs style, which looks very cool IMO: The limb issue aside, the biggest flaw of the set are the weapons, which look somewhat unimaginative compared to those of the other 5. As for the rest? He looks very nice IMO, the wide shoulders look is something new for Fire characters (Tahu is pretty wide too, and I like it!), the shoulder mounted cannon looks great and the colour scheme really pops out. Not perfect out-of-the-box, but one of my favourite Protectors in terms of overall look.

Good review as usual VBBN! I seriously hope we don't get another set like this. I literally, honestly mean that. The function makes no sense on tall humanoids like the Toa and seems to barely work on a Protector. So, having sacrificed the set's look for a not-very-good function, what is left? A barely poseable set, with an admittely nice colour scheme and two very nice pieces (the gold Skull Spider mask and the printed chest), but with an awkward looking, blocky build. And as VBBN said, he doesn't fit with the other sets- he's too simple and smooth and shares no visual cues with the Skull Spiders (colours, colour scheme, aesthetics). Whatever his origin is (a transformed/evolved Skull Spider? A special breed?), he doesn't look like a Skull Spider, more like a random giant enemy crab spider that could fit in any theme. I wouldn't be surprised if this was the last set to be designed, after they realized the small Spiders weren't enough. That would explain the absence of new pieces- because the budget for new moulds and recolours was almost completely used up, so they managed to only slip in a few recolours and a print design. It's not such an outlandish theory, IMHO. It could also be that he was salvaged from the scrapped set plans of another theme and underwent very minimal changes (which would explain why the new pieces like the gearbox haven't been used in any way)... but this much more speculative so I shall stop here. But I'm not going to justify the set's obvious flaws with any personal theory. He's not good as an addition to the new theme and he's not good on his own. This is, for me of course, one of the worst constraction sets of recent time, along Evo Walker and Scarox. Sorry, I'm skipping him.

I always said "Leh-wah" (like any Italian kid with a crappy English pronounciation would), but I sometimes say Lee-wah as well. Both sound nice to me. Anyway yes, this trailer was very cool! I still think it feels like 90s cartoon, and yes that is a very good thing. I love the characters and the backgrounds are indeed gorgeous. I noticed that the animation and the comics change some colours of the Toa. Some I like, some I don't: Gali's torso being gunmetal makes sense since that's her actual secondary colour, but the random gunmetal chest on Lewa doesn't match anything on his armour (though those gunmetal blades are pretty cool). Pohatu was changed the most- he has no transparent bones, his eyes are blue instead of yellow/green, and, in the comic at least, he has symmetrically coloured arms! And I have to say I like him a lot better this way. Why do I like Pohatu's blue eyes so much? Because 1. they match Protector of Stone's eyes 2. that way, the two eye colours are evenly distributed among the Toa like on the Protectors (hoping for a third eye colour soon..) and 3. it is reminiscient of the Po-Metru sets and 4. Brown and blue just look great period. Another cool thing is the way Tahu holds his weapons when in front of the Ta-Mato- err, villagers of the Fire Region. It looks like a giant shield/stupidly wide sword of doom and it is very very cool. I kinda want to display him like that now, though it looks like I need to add a piece or two so he can actually hold them. (Hahli?)So that's how they're called. Not piston add-ons, new add-ons or anything. It's "BIONICLE(®) shells". Kinda misleading, they technically aren't shells but oh well.
