[MOC] Rage Buggy
JM1971 replied to JM1971's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I built the original chassis last night, the steering was a disaster, the gear box did well but popped a universal joint on the rear suspension, the geared up xl motors cause a lot of stress when accelerating, it was fast though. The CV joints cant turn much before they start stuttering. I thought about using a clutch gear to limit the torque. -
^Gladly, got the wheels from lego store and some bits from bricklink, the rest will be ordered when the cash is available, good job there is not many pc games worth buying lately.

Thx for replies. The steering arms are deliberatly like that to absorb shock along with a rod going through the chassis which also keeps the rack in place, it should provide more accurate steering on bumps, the servo only moves the rack 1 brick each way so the handling shouldent be a problem. The wheels are that size because thats what I have in my collection -

The hard bit for me is the bodywork, everything slows to a crawl, fatige from trying loads of ways to fit stuff in, looking at other models for inspiration, having to limit yourself to so many hours before you go nuts Borrowed more than one idea from the 9398. -
The MK1 ldd file on page 4 can be used to speed up the process a little, I'm in the middle of doing a buggy atm but I'll get to work on the MK2 in a few days if no one is doing it.

Thx for replies, as long as the universal joints are dont touch the suspension then it should be ok, usually if its clear in LDD then it works. EDIT: The drive works well but the suspension is way too weak, lol. -

LDD2POVray... http://ldd2povray.lddtools.com/ Fairly easy to use, it takes a while on really high quality renders, mine are the lowest quality and take a couple of minutes each. -

41999 Top 100 Winner
JM1971 replied to haiout's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Lego should make the 41999 a permanent set, and also think about making ramps, cones and other obstacles. -
OOPs, I see now, and that is a good idea. I done a search after seeing 'cone' in brickies post and got lucky, you buy the rock crawlers and there is no stuff available for courses, I think lego marketing missed a opportunity.

Great job on this course, cant wait to see it finished :D My elbow hurts so my pyramids is going slow :P I had a small idea about a online competition, can a remote webcam record the IR signals from controllers and then send them to cars on your track via a TV/Monitor?

Little Rally Car (my version)
JM1971 replied to Lakop's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
On flickr you right click and select the size you want then when thats loaded you right click and select copy image location, then press image icon and paste the link when your composing the message. Its a decent model you have there and no two people like the same colours so its impossible to please everyone. -
Starting on some pyramids tommorow, the fibreboard costs £6 and can make 6 pyramids and a ramp, battleship gray for the finish and held together with cable ties and hinges. The ramp will be 30 degress one side and 45 the other.

Mods on the 9398 4x4 crawler
JM1971 replied to d1ging's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Gearing the XL motors up too much puts a lot of strain on everything between the motor and wheels and starts to pull everything apart, also I found some of the rods had a powdery residue either side of the cogs after only a short time. -
2 of them and you have ramps up to higher levels, and they look cool in yellow. My collie ambush I could do without, my dog jake hides out my view and attacks the crawlers with his paws before I can stop him, sometimes he turns them over, will have to get a video :)
