NXT and PF compatibility
DLuders replied to dhc6twinotter's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
On the HiTechnic website, there is a "New IR RC Kart Sample Model" in which "The IR RC Kart uses a IR Receiver Sensor to make it controllable with a LEGO Power Functions remote." This is reiterated at the top of this HiTechnic webpage. The IR RC Kart uses the NXT motors. If you want to control a Power Functions motor with an NXT, you need an 8528 "Converter Cables for LEGO® MINDSTORMS® NXT" connected to an 8886 "LEGO® Power Functions Extension Wire". One end of the 8528 Converter Cable plugs into the NXT brick; the other end connects to the FLAT end of the 8886 PF Extension Wire. Finally, the other end of the 8886 PF Extension Wire connects onto your PF motor. -

Sailing Ship Parts in LDD?
DLuders replied to minifig13's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
ADHO15 noted the many missing LDD parts in his digital model of the 4195 Queen Anne's Revenge set. -
8070 with some mods
DLuders replied to 3nslav3's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Nice modifications! Do you have some extra Technic Panels and rechargeable PF battery box to cover up the rear-end "baboon butt", like this? -
@ davidmull: Using Lego Digital Designer (LDD) for TECHNIC models is a bit awkward. Zblj has mastered the art of modeling Technic MOCs using LDD the best; he uses "Groups" of individual Technic modules to keep things organized. With larger Technic models, LDD sometimes adds parts in an "illogical" order. Parts often fly into the LDD baseplate in a way that differs from the order in which the modeler added them. To get a Parts List of an LDD model, use LDD Manager.

Wow, this T-72 (your thirteenth Lego Technic tank) is fantastic! Request that you feature one of the "Baker's Dozen" tanks in your upcoming book to be published by No Starch Press!

Lego Universe Properties
DLuders replied to Lalror's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
@ Lalror: How does one upload a HUGE LDD file into Lego Universe? Alienwar9's city scapes are over 30,000 bricks in size, and they "crash" some computers! -
Come out to Brickcon 2011 in Seattle, Washington USA on September 29th-October 2nd! One can register for the private AFOL convention, or attend the two public exhibitions on Saturday and Sunday, October 1-2. This is the largest annual Lego event in the Pacific Northwest. This year's theme is "Building a Community."

Future of Mindstorms
DLuders replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
One can download a 642-MB, Windows-based "Virtual CD" of the Lego Mindstorms NXT 2.0 software here, and then follow the steps to install it on an Apple MacIntosh-based machine. -
Here are 3 large pictures of jayko543's "The Big Rig" (winner of the August 2011 Lego Technic Challenge). It used 114 Lego Technic Panels! Can anybody beat that? "Roaring down the road, it's the worlds largest Technic 18-Wheeler! Features: 114 Technic panels (a record also?), suspension, landing legs, RC Truck with powered duallies, pinion steering with auto return, working headlights, and opening hood with V6! Measures 3 1/2 feet long, 8" wide, and 11" tall."

On BrickTruckTrial.com , Russian AFOL Zver has posted his Lego Technic Crawler v.2. There are 17 pictures on his website. SPECIFICATIONS: Scale (wheels used): 94.8 x 44 R Transmission: 4x4 Motorization: PFS-XL motor Steering: PFS-M motor Onboard Battery Box: PFS unit It is "The second model in which I has tried to get rid of [deficiencies] of the first crawler. The basic changes have concerned the forward axle and configuration of motors. "Due to the implementation of additional levers in the steering mechanism it was possible to reduce quantity of gears from 5 to 1! The transmission ratio has thus changed slightly: from 1:27,789 to 1:24 that has allowed to leave standard cardan shafts in a gear. The axle became more compact, more simple, with the big corner of entrance. "Suspension bracket of the forward axle has changed slightly: have put shorter rods. The suspension bracket articulation has decreased, but as a whole it became more reliable. "Motors on a frame has put vertically, the battery block has taken out forward. The rear axle remained without changes; its suspension bracket became less rough."

@ deleus: Yes, it is. Zblj has made X24 and X48 motors in LDD, and discussed them on this Eurobricks post. The LDD .lxf files can be downloaded from Zblj's Brickshelf folder. Zblj also modeled a V8 engine in LDD, which I have placed on MegaUpload SkyDrive here. The 30-45 seconds it will take you to do a quick download will be a lot less time than modeling this engine block youself in LDD! If you want a V6, just peel off two cylinders.

Studless techniques
DLuders replied to Burf2000's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
32 + 42 = 52 (i.e., 9 + 16 = 25). It is not true that 42 + 52 = 62. 16 + 25 = 41 (not 36). -
Wall E
DLuders replied to shuoshuoliuliu's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Welcome to Eurobricks! I like your Wall-E's hand movements and expressive eyes. Are there hidden Power Functions motors besides the two we can see driving the Technic Treads? -
question about power function in LDD
DLuders replied to deleus's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
You need to unlock additional LDD pieces with LDDextended Mode. -
On his Brickshelf gallery, Louskam/ wewerkalouskalka posted 12 pictures of his Lego Technic MAKO M-35. This "sci-fi tank (from PC game "Mass Effect") is powered by 7 medium motors; 6 for drive and 1 for steering. Each wheel is powered by one motor, without differentials." He posted this of it in action:

You could make many of these cubic Lego Dice, and pin them together: -
As reported on the Technobob website: "Diet Coke and Mentos LEGO Car Hits 25 MPH" "The whole Diet Coke and Mentos thing is long past its prime, but that doesn’t mean the powerful, fizzy reaction isn’t always going to be great fun to play with. "Mikael Nyberg and a team of engineers at Finland’s Abo Akademi University Department of Chemical Engineering have harnessed the intense energy of Diet Coke (or in this case Coca-Cola Light) and Mentos to power tiny cars. "These little LEGO cars are powered by the fizzy compressed gas which bursts through a nozzle and causes a spool of fishing line to spin. This, fishing line in turn pulls the LEGO cars along the ground at a high rate of speed. "Top speed for cars pulled by their system – dubbed the “CoMet Machine” – is 40 km/h (~25 MPH). See it in action in the below:"
