  1. Ideally I agree 100% with this. If this reflected reality we wouldn't have the problem we do nor would moderators be necessary. It's much like a ship that needs a captain, not to follow everyone around to make sure everyone is doing what they are supposed to. But to remind the crew of the mission when things start to get off track otherwise you end up running aground. This is especially true when new crew members come aboard.
  2. I think if someone felt this strongly a more effective method would be to write a review. Compare the previous baseplate with the new one. I'm sure there are many people like myself who are not exactly pleased with the increase. But as they say you catch more bees with honey than vinegar. One could mention that the baseplate that just retired http://brickset.com/sets/626-1/Building-Plate-Green came out in 1996 at the retail price of $4.99. The previous baseplate 813-1 came out in 1986 at the retail price of $4.50. I think that puts the situation in a much better perspective.
  3. I agree the modding has greatly fallen off and not just in superheroes but across all of eurobricks. While generally it's not a problem themes like superheroes seem to be turning into romper room. I fully understand the conversation is going to ebb and flow but we seem to have gone off the map and not returned. This is an adult forum not the junior high playground. There are appropriate places to discuss topics and it is dependent upon people to find them and if they don't exist create them. If you cannot grasp such a simple concept then maybe this is not the place for you. While some believe they should be freely allowed to talk about anything that pops into their head it has the effect of keeping other people away. People who wish to engage in a conversation and not have to read page after page of people complaining because TLG is not giving them exactly what they want and when they want it.
  4. Frankly I always thought the baseplate were unusually cheap. Have you actually bought a new baseplate yet? And compared the old with the new to see if any changes exist? I haven't seen any third parties selling these plates yet so it would be easy for TLG to tell if you have actually purchased a baseplate. I'm sure they get plenty of people whining about their product yet never actually buy the product thus the removal of your review. From what I understand the baseplates have been at the lower price for a good long while and this was just TLG adjusting price to reflect their actual costs.
  5. There is no,direct link, just a rumor list that was removed from eurobricks but can still be found here http://www.thebrickfan.com/lego-2015-set-release-dates-and-promo-details/
  6. Yikes, my bad. Sorry. What I get for trying to read eurobricks on my phone.
  7. I was thinking it's General Veers. Not this is guy http://www.dorkly.com/post/69741/awesome-actors-you-didnt-realize-were-in-everything-you-like/page:2 Reading fail.
  8. Gold chrome cloud city, hurray! Must be the death star sized set everyone is talking about. Seriously, yes I read somewhere that S@H is completely out of all promo polys for this month. You'll have to try the stores.
  9. I was having that problem too. I used ghostery to block all trackers and clear my cache and then it stopped.
  10. http://www.starwarsunderworld.com/2015/01/rumor-hasbros-force-awakens-product.html i It's here.
  11. Exactly. It's no different than if someone took photos from a Coke ad and used them to promote their business. Or taking a music artists work and using it on your website. Both of those would get you shut down in a heart beat. Unfortunately some use the internet to steal from those who either do not know better or do not have the time and/or resources to fight it.
  12. From what I understand they are going to let people post projects that are not their own. While some might not care one should think about it this way. They are basically using other peoples hard work to promote themselves and make money. All without the express permission of the owner. Just something to think about.
  13. I'm just hoping for the emperor's chair sitting in front of the window. Though technically the royal guard was dismissed when Luke arrived it would be nice to get a couple more. Perhaps the emporer will come with the lightning piece as well.
  14. Found a supposed list of Hasbro toys for TFA. Warning possible spoilers, maybe..... http://www.starwarsunderworld.com/2015/01/rumor-hasbros-force-awakens-product.html
  15. And no mention of TFA. A couple of cloud city sets would be great.
  16. I think the fact there are six sets is a big indicator there isn't going to be another wave. If we do get any JP sets most likely it would be a larger exclusive set. Perhaps a main gate, a car or two, 5 or six figs and couple of dinosaurs. A nice tribute to the original but not overshadowing the new film.
  17. No, I seriously doubt we would see sets that soon. We probably will not be seeing any pics of TFA sets until late summer/ early fall.
  18. Seeing how the minifig comes with a wb product I would kinda imagine the decision was not completely made by TLG. I also wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a DK book. There is a much better chance of a middle earth DVD set.
  19. It's called a speculative circle. In some themes it becomes a spiraling vortex. And in others a massive black hole.
  20. It's what I use myself. I made a lego table for my daughter using two of these as the base. I removed one section to lower it and placed a piece of plywood with trim forming a lip around the edge across the two. Just enough room between the two sections to place a kids sized chair. I then painted the top to look like heart lake city. Lake in the middle, surrounds by flowers and paths radioing outward. It's been great for a place for her to both build, sort and store most of her Legos.
  21. Picked up the T-16 Skyhopper so I could get the free poly. I otherwise have plenty to keep me busy and I like to wait for the craziness to die down and the sales to pop up.
  22. What I find most interesting is who is guarding that ship.
  23. Some basic tips. First exposure. When your camera is reading for exposure it is attempting to make whatever it is reading what is called 18% grey. Thus if you using automatic exposure with a spot exposure area and you are focusing on a light or white area it will attempt to make it grey. Newer cameras have a greater ability to fix this problem by reading multiple areas at once and to create a balanced exposiure. This doesn't always work out. A simple solution if you don't have an exposure meter and a camera wi the ability to manually adjust exposure is to use what is called a grey card. It's basically a hard piece of card board that is white on one side and 18% grey on the other. They can be found usually at any place that sells professional photo equipment and usually is either 4x5" or 8x10". One can then place the card in the shot and use the card to get a good exposure reading. Cameras often have exposure, locks, allowing for the card to then be removed. I recommend both a tripod and an assistant to hold and remove the card but either one will work. If no assistant just prop up the card . Second focus. Typically in a photo you, want to focus 1/3 into the scene. Thus if you model is 3 feet deep you focus one foot from the front. Also a tripod will be beneficial so you can have greater exposure times thus allowing for a greater aperture which will increase your depth of field (area that is in focus). If you dont have a tripod any flat surface will suffice to lay the camera on such as an adjustable ladder, light stand with clamps, etc. Thirdly lighting. As some have mentioned the easiest solution is to go,outdoors. Preferably, you, are going to want to,use indirect lighting. Under an awning, the north side of a building, or even under a tree. If those were not available things such as scrims and various light panels could be used. A very cheap trip would be to take an old semi transparent shower curtain and hang it up between two poles or from a clothes line to diffuse the light and reduce contrast. Another trick would be to use a reflector used to place in a cars windshield and use it to block out the direct sun. The added bonus is the background would be brighter thus eliminating unwanted details. The outdoors doesn't always cooperate thus artificial light must be used, well not always. Light from a north facing window creates a nice and even lighting as well as placing anything to diffuse the direct sunlight in a south facing window. These options are very usual for those not wanting to invest in lighting equipment. For those wanting to take the next step the options are really unlimited. It really comes down to the type of,look you are seeking to achieve. Generally soft light works, great to minimize contrast and produce an even affect over the shot. It could be as simple as bouncing a camera flash off a white ceiling or a white card to either side of the shot. There are also various products that can be placed over the flash lens to diffuse and disperse the light. One could use shop lights found at Home Depot, clip on light with a metal reflect or what not. These could then be moved around to create a more directional light while still bounced off a white card or have diffusion material placed between the light and the shot. I wouldn't recommend placing directly,on the, light for, obvious reasons. The ultimate lighting solution if of course is using strobes. Once again many of the same techniques for bouncing end diffusion can be used. Other things such as soft boxes and umbrellas can used to help in the process, it really comes down to what works, best for you. Umbrellas diffuse the light but create a more specular, or sharp light. Where a soft box is softer and tends to wrap around objects more thus creating less contrast as well. No matter what method you choice I really encourage you to spend time just looking at the light. My very first assignment in school was to take a cantaloupe and a hot light and merely observe the effect of moving the light around had on the cantaloupe. Diffuse it, bounce it, etc. One could take a simple table lamp and move it around your shot and see how it affects it. Try with the shade on and off, etc. The key to photography is not equipment, it's understanding and recognizing the different qualities of light and the effect they have on your subject. This is of course a very down and dirty basic photography lesson. I tried to keep it practical and accessible. It is not, comprehensive in any way. I think if you are really interested and wanting to invest time and money you need to understand the very basics of photography. I hope this helps and doesn't,just add further confusion. Feel free to,ask me anything.
  24. I imagine it's along the same lines as they do with Star Wars sets. A great way to advertise the latest show or movie.
  25. A mold for a long boat would be fairly large, making it very expensive even by TLG's standards and have limited use. The whole point of Legos is to build, if you want large molded pieces playmobil is the product you are looking for. And frankly making large molds is not very creative at all not to mention is rather limiting future use of that mold.
