Kaliphlin Guild: Homepage, Sign-up and Discussion
SkaForHire replied to Si-MOCs's topic in Guilds of Historica
Welcome to GoH, Mattusxavier! -
Yes I would agree that that is a good way to approach it, at least make it "clean" enough that newcomers don't need to take History of Historica 101. (hmmmm.... sounds like a good post...) However, since you are in the loop, who all is running the show next chapter? With guild-leaders missing in action most of the time, would it not be best to bring in a few others? Is there anybody representing Kaliphlin or Nocturnus? Not saying you all don't have it handled, but I have always felt that this project is a little big for four/five people to run. That is why I suggested assistant leaders in my proposed constitution for the project. I agree there needs to be a little secrecy in how things are scored and what not, but it would be nice to know who is pulling the strings I think we definitely need to thank you for your promotion efforts ZC. It definitely seems frustrating, and we are glad we have you.

Yes, really cool to see the city from another builder too! You did a great job, and I am sure Lord DaMaximus will welcome you with open arms when he returns.

I'm not sure I am following correctly. A single new guild? or as in there is a civil war brewing in Avalonia kind of conflict, where everyone has to take sides? Or do you just mean a completely new badguy / conflict so that new people do not have to catch up on the Victor saga if they don't want to?

Kaliphlin Guild: Homepage, Sign-up and Discussion

Yeah, it is big. And then I have the one back in Texas that took off when I joined GoH. Let's just say the way I coped with my dad's death as a kid was buy, buy, buy lego. I think my entire salary from my first two jobs went mostly to lego and girlfriends. Yeah serving Whoppers and cleaning machines for bricks! Even in my young adult and college years I kept purchasing, and sadly I didn't have a good excuse like GoH for acquiring new pieces, I just became slightly addicted to Ebay. Then I stopped having disposable income for a good five years, and that broke the habit, and I only bought a few sets a year. Then... I moved away to a tiny apartmnt in Orlando and had no room for my collection, and that is how I ended up with two collections. Wow... autobiography... sorry for the hijack! -

I know what you mean. When I dated someone in, and then lived in Orlando, I used to do PA / Orlando in 14 hour bouts all the time, but I was also 8 years younger... PA to Texas, not so doable. I thught I could do a Pod, but they don't service the area my mom lives in. Shipping through fed ex or the like isn't really an option because it is too large. There are many, many tubs. I think the I don't know of any other large self pack / they ship companies, but if anyone else has heard of one, I am all ears. -

Yes, Flickr is very weird now, and slow. It took forever to get my uploads to show up today. Not a good start to the new Flickr... I also got an email today offering me to go back to the free version from pro. But it never said what the benefits of staying with pro were! ...... The reason I was uploading today is because I made it back to my mom's house and took a few pictures. Today I went into the basement to look at my original collection, and this is what I found: Collection by skaforhire, on Flickr I guess my nieces have been busy.... Also, my mom and sister packed up all my ships in plastic wrap, a picture of part of the old navy inprisoned in wrap: Collection by skaforhire, on Flickr I am contemplating cancelling my flight and renting a van to take my collection back to Texas with me... Rentals are so expensive though... -

A couple of nice builds there Gideon and Nightstalker. I like the tall trees Gideon, and your figs are always excellent. It is nice to see the wither woods again. Great little scene Nightstalker, I like the use of the shredder helmet! On another note, I didn't have time to make the MOC with the new figs, and I am gone for ten days after this post, so I probably won't be logging on much... Unless my brother and I do something crazy and build a whole battlefield and do another call to arms next weekend -- which is what happened last year when I went home to visit in the summer. Don't let the Avalonians take over Kaliphlin while I am gone, and please, someone private message me if they open up voting before June, I wouldn't want to miss that! -
Also, isn't Gabe in Qarkyr? Someone is in Qarkyr.... It may have been a long time since they may have posted, but I know one of the main members took up shop there. Although, any city could hold multiple members.

So much story, in so little space. I like it. The non-traditional base is nice I like the popping out arms to pose them. Good fig positioning! The dust adds to the Kaliphlin-ness of it haha. I take it this MOC was sitting somewhere for a couple of weeks before you got to photograph it?

I did get a laugh when they reviewed the ship and said "You only get one hobbit with this set" and they were talking about Gimli... ::

haha... those Avalonians and their "adventures." We are going to need a new Timmy!!! Anyway, cool idea! I like the beasts a lot and the Tanar'i are a good addition. It has been a long time since I have looked at a monster manual, so I can't remember them very well, but I do remember displacer beasts!!! In way of improvement, I think if that is what you have, that is what you have. Your rocks are pretty good, You hide the BURPs alright with the addition of smaller pieces. I am guessing what most people are going to say is that the ground needs more detail - I think it is OK as it is, because I personally hate decorating the ground, but I think that will be the most common comment on the thread.

I really like the Blue and White paired together, but I really don't think the lion or crown crest should have been used. Why not, horses, unicorns, wolves, tress, birds, etc... ? Also, there are some good bits on the dragon torsos, but I will never get over that head. I also don't think black and red really make a good Medieval faction, at least the way they have been comboed here.

Welcome to the south! As Masa said, go ahead an put down roots. There are plenty of cities that don't even have names yet that you might want to "take over" Just check out the map. Of course, if you are not into ruling, then you can always settle down in one of the established cities, or be nomadic. There are a lot of possibilities for your character here.

Kind of new here and need some help
SkaForHire replied to Nightstalker's topic in Guilds of Historica
It all depends on what you are looking to do... Also, I don't think Valyrio is join-able just yet, but it looks like it will be soon. I would say join Kaliphlin because we are the best, but you really should join whichever you feel fits your building style, or the challenge you want to work towards. My collection had very little tan in it when I joined Kaliphlin, but PoP was going on sale so I beefed it up quite quickly. I think building a tan collection this year would be much harder, as their is not as many sets with it. (But you also don't need the desert colors to build in Kaliphlin). If you have a lot of lush forest colors or just plain castle pieces, Avalonia might be a good fit. Although they like to wear tights and have tea parties too much. If you have that collection, and want to get some white for snow, Mitgardia would be a good fit. Finally, if you just want to go off the wall, and don't mind being in a guild with a low population, but some very talented builders, Nocturnus is a good choice. There really isn't a set style over there, and not all of them build in a dark and creepy mater (although the more dark and creepy builders, the better.) It is a personal choice, but all of us will be accepting of you, no matter where you go. You could always hang on a few weeks and see if we open up Valyrio, if that is the style you are looking to build. -

I picked up two of the Dragon Mountain, so I bet your store is just getting them late. I spent too much of CMFs already, I was very tempted though. I do have a good handful of each (Warrior woman and Roman) though. Well more like ten of each, IF those Romans had shields, I would probably be broke. -
Mark, your builds are always some of my favorite from LCC. Great work again! Fearsome beast here. I like the custom wings.
-
I agree, keep them, you will want them later. Especially since the kite shields seem to be rare this wave... those may be good trade fodder later.

I just saw all of the new sets at a TRU here in Fort Worth, TX. They look even better in person. I did not buy though, even with BOGO50%, the markup was too steep for me. I will wait until they are at S@H. (That and I just blew two months lego budget on Castle). It looks like I should have taken pictures to show, since no one has done it yet. Happy hunting! On another note, does anyone know when TRU is ending this recent wave of BOGO50%? Just in case I regret my decision not to purchase right away. lol.

I just picked up two, so they are out there.

Nice job! I really like the door and gate in general. Also, I like the paving - I imagine that takes a long time. Great build, Vaholl is becoming quite a formidable city.

I spent next month's Lego money going back to TRU today. I still couldn't bring myself to buying two of the castles to take advantage of BOGO50%, but I did get another 6 of the small sets and two of the dragon sets. Repetitive, yes; but, as most of you know, I am an army builder. I couldn't pass up $9 for four soldiers, a dog, and the gold. Ohhhh.... and, TRU had all the new LOTR stuff. Unfortunately, the markup negates or makes worse the BOGO50% but once S@H has the ship in, you can bet you will see more of Eastgate's Navy in the coming year. The Elrond set looks really good up close and personal. -

I got a few new soldiers for Kaliphlin - 20 new crownies and 18 new dragons. (Thanks TRU BOGO 50% sale!) I think both fit our color scheme nicely and add some diversity to our troops. I am going to try and get them into a MOC before I leave on the 20th. I will be gone the rest of May though. I probably won't have time to check the forums while I am gone. Just letting you all know I am not disappearing. -
Three new houses for the Walls of Valholl
SkaForHire replied to Yooha's topic in Guilds of Historica
I really like all three, especially the thatch roof on the first. However, I am not so sure that the Mint should be against an outer-wall of the city. Seems like you would want your gold and silver coining facility nearer the heart of the city, where it is the last thing to get raided. :)- 12 replies
