Mitgardia Guild: Homepage, Sign-up and Discussion
SkaForHire replied to Sirens-of-Titan's topic in Guilds of Historica
Thanks Ecc for the vote on the challenge, that means a lot! Great birthday present :) But, on topic -- I expect a good slander campaign this election! And if anyone needs help obtaining votes... I think I know of one Kaliphlin Super-Pac that might be able to help. -
Wow! The rock work is fine in my opinion, where it is close to your focus objects up front, it is jagged and smooth enough. The top of the mountain can be more rough, as it isn't a focal point. The whole foreground is well manicured and looks great. The trees are very nice. I love the lever base flowers and was glad when you shared that technique with me... I was very tempted, but I specifically cut them out of my 1K builds because I knew you were coming up with a major presentation here, and did not want to steal the idea. You do them so well though. This is some of the best gardening work I have ever seen. Keep up the great work!

Inside Kaliphlin Day Final Day -- Devil's Island
SkaForHire replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
Thanks! He did come out pretty good I thought. I didn't post the picture, because I have not taken a nighttime picture yet, but I put a light brick in the back that makes his skull holes glow... in a few days hopefully I get time to set up the tripod and do a dark picture to show you all. Thanks! I was going to have a tourist go to shore, but decided that I should avoid killing our paying guests. Maybe we can get a second tour going later on down the road... I think all of us did 2 - 7 mocs, and need a little break. Although there were a lot more ideas on the board when we finished. I had so many of them, and my historic vignette of the Battle of Fallen Timbers is taking too long, so my Native Americans had to get some action. Thanks! It is funny that the statue almost didn't make it on the MOC at first. That would have been pretty funny, and the thought crossed my mind, but I thought I would leave the audience out of my MOCs, at least on this tour. -
I like the roofs, and I bet the colors show up more boldly to the naked eye than on a photograph, but it still looks good in my opinion. Great job here!

Inside Kaliphlin Final Day- Homes of Petraea
SkaForHire replied to Erynlasgalen's topic in Guilds of Historica
This looks wonderful! Great to see some more of Petraea. All of the trees are great! I really like the tall palms coming over the sides! I agree with the others that using the side studded bricks creates a nice simple pattern that is pleasing to the eye. -
Yes, I wonder who wants them dead? Nice village, I can't wait to see the rest of the layout. The paths feel so natural.

Wow! So many interesting plants! I like that you built this all around that wood piece, that is quite an interesting idea. Great job, I am glad you got it finished and up!

Inside Kaliphlin Final Day - Temple of Tiktok
SkaForHire replied to robuko's topic in Guilds of Historica
Haha, Tik-Tok! That is great! I love the variety of jungle plants here. I wish I could have done a variety like that with Devil's Island. -
Alright, that’s it… tour is over. I told you all to sit down and be quiet so the Mecaliians didn’t see us. Now all of their natives are on the shores just eying our tour boat. DSC_2981 by skaforhire, on Flickr Devilislandmapcard by skaforhire, on Flickr Our last stop is commonly called Devil’s Island by Kaliphlin trading companies – they are the only people foolish enough to step foot on this island. For centuries the inhabitants have sent adventurers home in a box -- if they were not eaten. Not much is known about these people or their culture, we can only assume the giant statues are meant to ward off passing tourists. Ships entering the inland sea hug the opposite shore, as this island is considered bad luck by sailors. Devilsislandpostcard by skaforhire, on Flickr However, we can take a look at the island’s beautiful volcanic beaches and its strange monuments from our boat, which makes this stop a favorite of painters who have a fear of going ashore. Hello Tourists, it looks like you have a couple more stops scheduled on your tour. Presently we are at the peak of a sacred mountain in the Rakath Mountains. The locals call it Shenpal, but we at the Tourist Board call it Yet’I Mountain. yeticard by skaforhire, on Flickr Shrinepostcard by skaforhire, on Flickr The Yer’ti tribe have made this mountain the home of their religion. Like many of the tribes around these parts, the Yer’ti look at the Yet’I as their spiritual avatar. For this reason, they constructed a shrine on the tallest mountain in the region that pays tribute to the Yet’I. rakathritual by skaforhire, on Flickr Unfortunately, this mountain peak was inaccessible through climbing, so the Yer’ti constructed a path up the sister mountain of Shenpal, Olenpal. From the top of Olenpal, one has to cross a rickety bridge to the shrine on top of Shenpal. DSC_3012 by skaforhire, on Flickr DSC_3011 by skaforhire, on Flickr DSC_3004 by skaforhire, on Flickr Oh my, as we approach we can see a rare spectacle indeed – a ritual sacrifice! DSC_3005 by skaforhire, on Flickr Unfortunately for the priests and the acolytes who are escorting her to the mountain top, the girl that was to be sacrificed was taken from her village without permission. That means it is up to the local Kaliphlin magistrate to climb the mountain and retrieve the girl before it is too late. However the magistrate is no fighter. Luckily, he found an unnamed knight from Ximus who was passing through the mountains to act as muscle on this mission. DSC_2993 by skaforhire, on Flickr --------------------- A little more editing, and I should get my last Inside Kaliphlin MOC up tonight too. I should say that this was completely inspired by the flags on the rope in Eryn's market. It reminded me of the fake shrine on Expedition Everest at Disney World. Which led to the Yeti mountain.

Inside Kaliphlin Final Day- Black Oil Field
SkaForHire replied to Erynlasgalen's topic in Guilds of Historica
We sell it to Mitgardia and Avalonia to heat their houses in the winter. Much more valuable as heating oil than lamp oil. I think I heard that Albion might be working on converting their street lights to gas powered to save money -- GEAR Co. plans on bidding on that contract. Wonderful MOC, I am glad we got an oil field in there! -

Right, the last time I build 5 MOCs in 21 days was probably never, unless we are counting Queenscross as separate MOCs... So the competition was a good thing. -
That would make sense :) Really cool! I will have to try it sometime.
-
Lovely build! That offset stud wall is great -- how do you keep them in there? Move it very carefully?

We all must thank Kai, she is the mastermind! There is life in Mitgardia, I just think summer is eating people up right now. We Texans spend a lot of it indoors because of the heat, so its pretty evident we will still be active! haha. On another note... Is DM sleeping a lot lately? I think I am catching up to him in posts. In a couple of days I will have a present for him. -
[MOC] Clash at the Castle of Winterlake Moor
SkaForHire replied to Sigolf Brimabane's topic in Guilds of Historica
Are you kidding me? Don't take this the wrong way, but the quality gap between you all's first build and this is huge. You both have improved leaps and bounds here. Great job with the whole hall, inside and out. Good fig posing in the battle, nice walls too! Epic scene. -
Inside Kaliphlin Day 9 -- The Triumphal Arch of Petraea
SkaForHire replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
Why, because it is giant and white and uses columns? Thanks Kayne and Eryn, I wouldn't have been inspired (well motivated too) without you two and the others in the group. Thanks Masa, as our second celebrity builder of the tour, that is a huge compliment! Yea... sadly, you might not see my last two tour builds... that was a lot of procrastination and now the piper needs paid... or at least I have to get some grading done to hit deadlines. I really like how you did yours, nice an integrated - a great realization of that part! I took the easy way out and made some grandiose road. Thanks! I am not sure why we have not used many of those yet... or maybe I was the only one that was a fan of orient adventurers. Thanks Z! Great to hear from you. I have more. One slushy cup more to be exact. best 21 dollars ever. Actually, they gave me some sort of extra discount that day and I paid 4 dollars a cup, so it is actually 12 dollars... I hope I can find them some day in the other colors. Let me know if you get some days off for brickfiestsa, if there is one person there I know, I might go. I have been debating registering just to show this MOC. I really like it.
