ANNOUNCING: Guilds of Historica Book II: The Civil War
SkaForHire replied to ZCerberus's topic in Guilds of Historica
I just broke it up into 4 grading periods, that would be quarter 1 (my own estimate of when 1/4th of the second book is over) That way we are not sitting there at the end and grading them all. That is the deadline to get it in for the first grading quarter. -

ANNOUNCING: Guilds of Historica Book II: The Civil War
SkaForHire replied to ZCerberus's topic in Guilds of Historica
Please post all Free Builds in the thread. If you are listing multiple free builds from the past few months, then it is OK to list them in one post, as long as all the information is there. -
TOPIC LOCKED Use the second quarter registration here. First Quarter Free Build Registration Sept 1st 2013 to March 1st, 2014 (Book II, Quarter 1) What is this thread? This is the thread where YOU register your free build if you wish it to be scored for your guild. Why are you doing this to us? Despite Rogueang’s wonderful MOC index, the guilds project has become quite large. The core leaders feel that we need a self-indexing mechanism that will allow us to grade free builds more efficiently. This is what we have come up with. What do I need to do? Just simply write the following information In a NEW post: Name of Moc with link to the thread | Name of Builder | Guild you belong to IE: Obsidian Spike |ZCerberus | Nocturnus Do not write anything else. What counts as a “Free Build?” Great question! Any GOH build that was not entered in one of the official main challenges or for any official mini-challenge that issued a physical prize. All free builds must have their own thread, and there must be a link to that thread provided here. Do not comment on builds in this thread, please do that on the MOC’s own thread. Can I just post in my guild thread and leave it at that? Whereas you are welcome to do so, if the build does not make it into the index , it will not be scored. Can I put up an entry for another guild member's build? If that builder has disappeared and we are getting near the deadline, this would be allowed.

Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion

Sorry, these weeks are just really busy for me, so I have not been commenting... Some thoughts Levels -- Apprentice should be achieved for at least three builds. A Bachelor or tradesmen (depending if it is a science/philosophy or engineering set) should come out of three apprentices that are related. IE a Bachelor in Philosophy should be three philosophy related apprentices, history, anthropology, and music for example. (Philosophy could also be the title of an apprenticeship too.) Then a master would be three tradesmen/bachelors, and a doctor would be three related masters, and esteemed professorship would be a person that earned all the doctorates. I wish I could find time to set up a hierarchy tree to demonstrate, but hopefully this made sense the way I wrote it. So basically, you would be building for one of the 50 or so apprenticeships, and could cover up to 4 apprenticeships in one build. Some apprenticeships would be technique based, where some would be theme based. You never really "build" for anything higher than an apprenticeship, unless we want the Bachelors to represent a higher skillset. Really, the Masters and the Doctors would be earned as a "level up" instead of needed to show specific skills for each level. -
I am not sure about using the bricks on the third level, as they would probably cause the wood of the second story to collapse! But, very nice building. good .. urm... "fig positioning"... haha. I guess we have not seen much of the underworld of Historica yet... Keep up the good work.

Ha nice job! I like the sides of the roof, it is a nice decoration. Also, you always use the non-traditional parts like the hands well, in this case great use again! (One little correction, Petera holds Eastgate, Paulos is the one giving the missions :) Should have made them have more different names, I guess.)

Yeah not my idea. I wanted to spend money on a honeymoon and to a Justice of the Peace wedding. But, her mom would not have that. So Here we are having a (by relative terms today) "inexpensive" wedding, and then still doing a Honeymoon that costs too much... ha. And my teaching contracts are down this semester, so I am stretching it all thin! I probably will not be building much for a while it seems. -

Don't sign me up... Sorry, just had to say something. Those pictures look great! I look forward to seeing where this goes.

Spectacular, truly one of the greatest buildings in Pretrea as well as the world. So much to like here, great colors, monumental architecture, the figs! (BTW that is Paulos' fig, not Petera -- Petera is under siege in Eastgate right now, by the missing DaMaximus. So it makes sense that they both are not there.) -

Late but... Watch out with the two collections thing, I did that and finally merged my collections this summer.... It is a disaster, and I have a not so happy fiance every time she walks upstairs into my lego "floor" since I am occupying more than just the one bedroom I was supposed to.... haha Congrats on the job! -
Raising the Dead – Family Heirloom (Community Story Build)
SkaForHire replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
We are OK taking it to the 1st, honestly, I don't have time to build the culminating build before I start building for the battle, so we can fudge the deadlines a bit. Task 4 for Kai: Think of the Children! There are very scared children at the Orphanage of the Sun. It is rumored that one of Petera's lieutenants, Capsus, has decided to take the orphanage under his wing while living in Eastgate. Unfortunately, rumors have abound that Capsus has been using the orphans for fould purposes - torture, slavery, and some have even said to eat! We need you to slip into Eastgate and check on the orphanage. If you can, and if they are in need, please try to get the orphans out of the city. They don't need to be there when DaMaximus's catapults start firing. Task 5 For Nightstalker: Into the darkness: unfortunately, our call for help has led to some of the missions getting out of hand. The Brotherhood of the Sword volunteered to help Paulos recapture Eastgate, but they got sick of waiting and making small strikes at the enemy. Instead they took matters into their own hands. We just got word that they have slipped into Eastgate's sewers and they are planning to attack the city's well system. They are going to try and poison Petera! We fear that they will end up killing many more people than just Petera (if they even succeed at that) and that they may permanently hurt the city's water supply. We need you to stop them at all costs before they attempt their mission. And some how I forgot Rummy way back 20 days ago (did you post task 3?) So here is task 4 for you also: Payroll: Paulos has been surprised by the number of mercenary outfits ready to help him, he has the money... but eh... it seems to be in the Crown Bank of Eastgate, locked under vault. It would really be nice to start paying cash instead of IOUs. So, he needs your team to go and "retrieve" some of his gold from the bank. How you do that is up to you.- 38 replies

Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
SkaForHire replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
Well, it seemed at first the first mini-challenge was doing well, but now, it has been buried beneath the hordes of tribes entries, I am guessing no one even sees it. I am sorry, I have been swamped lately, but the good news is that the real challenges are firing up soon it looks like (I still owe a starting build for that too! ugh...) and our member count is pretty good with the quality builders we have. There is a reason Z was making fun of many of you for signing back up, because he would love to have your talent. -

I was kicking it all around, and though that there would be a series of masters before a person earned a doctorate. It may be because my background is in the academy, but I don't automatically assume the title doctor to be medical, but again maybe I am the only one on the boards here. However, the "Master of Historica" seems to be an aggrandized sounding title, even though it is not meant to be. I thought that the top rank, after a builder achieves the three doctorates (Engineering (science), philosophy, and arts maybe add in medical?) they would become an "Exalted Professor of Historica." That might be a more proper sounding title. If i get a minute today I will try to post a document of what I mean. -

I think we should keep doctor, as it is historically (back over a millennium) the highest title for an academic. If I have some time to get this flow chart worked out, I think it will be neat. -

I attempted to build a flow chart... but the formatting sucked it up for me. Anyone know a good flowchart program? -

I am not opposed to multiple titles... maybe if it is more of a tree, and three disciplines = a bachelors in a broader field... sort of like a family tree. There would be four(ish) bachelors degrees, and after you have earned all of them you would be considered a master, although technically, if we were using the medieval university hierarchy, the first branch would be apprentice, the second would be guildsmen or bachelor, the third would be master, and the last level would be doctor.... If I could illustrate it with a tree it would be easier to understand what I am saying... -
Ecc, you may have just won GoH... That is spectacular. I love the waterfall and all of the moving parts, this is a great show piece -- I hope you won whatever prize your show may have had! Just wow!
