Review: World Racers 8897 Jagged Jaws Reef
BrickPerfection replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Hmm that looks much like the return of the good old shark! Although it's a little primitive, I like it a bit more than the more childish new ones! Can't say much on the set as I'm not really into Acton Themes... but looks ok. -
Ahh nice to see the mixture of Wild West and Pirate parts (pearl gold telescope pieces, flame pieces...) I like how your men are loading the guns. Also the guy wit that binoculars is a nice touch! I'm not so sure about the wooden barricades provided though... they don't look like they would give a lot of protection... In addition I think your cannons are placed too close to each other! Nice scene though!

I'm not a Lego Star Wars expert, but isn't 8088 almost similar to a set released earlier? 8097 is very similar to older sets for sure as an early review showed already! Sorry if this has been stated already, but I have to say that I detest the same sets being released over and over again with just small changes... Actually a lot of different scenes have been released in this line, but still: I don't see any sense in rereleasing the same ones without doing all the others first Just my thoughts in this very moment... However some of the models look much better than any of those released before, esspecially the mini models have improved by a lot! Also Grevious' star fighter is great as several reviews have shown! In addition I like Palpatines Shuttle, but the rest.. well I'm not sure but seems a little uninspired I guess...

Of course I've done this before, just forgot to post... I very much appreciate the work of the ambassadors and hope that the communication provided by surveys like this one will change the minds of TLC and bring back Pirates somewhere in the next 4-5 years. Or at least a comparable historic theme of that era involving ships! I also have to state though, that I much fear that all these efforts might not achieve what we all hope for since AFOLs won't make up more than 1-2% of Lego customers, so even if they spend more money on Lego, TLC as being profit-oriented will focus much rather on stuff for kids like the more and more childish sets and quality issues have shown us...

Hmm even if not everything about that tiny boat has been your idea; I still love it's colozrscheme and use of pearl gold! Thanks for sharing and the extra pics of that boat! The house feels somewhat too small though! I also think it's wall could be somewhat more "plastic", by for example using tiles on top of SNOT converters... Just an idea though.

Can't figure out why I failed to comment on this before - it's a great scenery, and huge! Looks pretty much like minifig scale! As others have stated already some details, esspecially in the lanscaping (vegetation, colour diversity) are still lacking and the deadline comes closer every single day; I hope you can improve in these areas since I'd really love to vote on such a massive entry! However I can't if it will still look as sterile as it is now...

Hey Kerntechniker, It's good to see those new pics and even better to see that your Admirality is still "alive", so that you could take them! Are you planning on some minor tweeks or improvements, possibly based on feedback? I like MOCs that evolve...

Sounds like another tournament of retribution... We really could use something like this here! Now, I have never before seen a mech in a pirate MOC, but well if the rules allow it, it adds some touch for sure! I quite like the look of it and how it squeezes that tiny redcoat; yeah you're on the right side! Still, I personally would prefer some kind of a "living" monster like a massive kraken or something... Nice scene though....

also in this pack? http://www.shapeways.com/modules/udesign/u...81_small_v2.jpg For an army of 60 marines: definately! For smaller MOCs like vignettes, it's pretty fair and comparable to Brickarms (only that they have no proper musket yet I think). So far, I have avoided customization, however some of your designs are so great, I might reconsider that... They might be a little costly for large scale MOCs, but they're certainly a major advantage in contests where customisation is allowed (like michaelozzie has shown us)!

Hey Woody64, I'm just wondering: would it be possible to create cannons of different sizes? Like 36pdr, 24pdr and 8pdr long guns? Like seen in this pic: Also since there is now a swivel gun design of yours: how about a carronade? I haven't thought about using custom guns so far; however your napoleonic gun really looks sweet and I've seen it's available in black so that there is no painting needed! However for a 74 gunner 76*8$ is a bit scary... Still could afford a few guns for a small MOC like a cross section... Keep up the good work; I haven't seen better custom cannons so far! -Perfectionist

1 point for 11. NewRight's Persian Delicacy; I really like this guy's lanscaping even on small MOCs 1 point for 6. Fugazi's Persian Carpets!; great idea, well done! 1 point for 31. Oky Wan's Belly Dance & Hookah Bar; hehe I like those girls
-
2 points for 7. pedro's Karaban ~ The Sand-cloud City; just loving the bridge and gate! 1 point for 10. MrTools' Modular Market Square; I quite like modular sets and this one does well in capturing the theme flair!
-
1 point for 23. Oky Wan Kenobi's Nizam's Warship; I love ships of any kind and this amazingly beautiful galley stands out for sure! 2 points for 9. lego-maniac's The Nizam's Palace; an amazingly huge, detailed and lively entry!

Very nice! I love the bath in the rock, the waterfall seems very innovative. The colourscheme is simple yet effective and much reminds me of actual historic arabian style buildings, well done! I also like how the rocks are tiled... Only downside I see is cost... the colours used are extremely expensive - but since that's not my problem I just enjoy looking at it. Thanks for sharing!

That look like a stunning rigging , could we please have some more pics? I also like the figurehead and the headrails; I haven't seen better brickbuilt ones! The masts look a bit clumsy though... The decision to expand to 5 midsections really paid off, it looks much better and also sleeker now!

Review: 7947 Prison Tower Rescue
BrickPerfection replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Although I rather like the new castle line I have to agree with some statements that this set is rather poor: -the use of a ladder for locking the entrance is just stupid and nonsense; even kids will know that! -the green is nice but still... something is bugging me with the colourscheme... -I also don't like the new portcullis; I feel it to look much like a toy and less realistic than the old ones. -and yeah, there's a lack of playability features. Still I think the quality of this set wouldn't be so clear without this nice review, thanks! -
The idea to change the sails on the BB for custom ones is generally a good one since the original sail pattern looks very childish! However I'm not quite convinced by how you executed it! Black sails aren't bad, however I dislike the holes in them! Holes may be ok for some PotC flair, but they're just unrealistic and - more importantly - don't fit with the more intact appeareance of the BB IMO. I also don't understand why you haven't changed the sail's shape or at least the 3mm tube yards which are just horrible on the BB! Why others stated that the use of chain would look good, I personally dislike them, they lack any nautical flair and my guess is that TLG has only included them because they were too lazy to reintroduce the ropes from 1997... I might have criticised a little too much but my demand in MOCs is rather high, so please don't feel offended in any way. Regards -Perfectionist

Well, since your asking in the pirate foum where simply everyone loves this theme it's not surprising that they'll try to convince you to get into pirates! Actually I think the old sets from 1989 to 1995 are mostly great and among the best sets Lego ever released so it can't be wrong getting them. The new sets are just average and sometimes worse, however the minifigs and some accesoires are very great. A notable exception to this is the Imperial Flagship which is rather good ship for a set! So if your into MOCing, it isn't worth buying the sets, just get the parts drom Bricklink or smaller impuls sets (Cannon Battle is a best buy!) If you're more into collecting sets, get the IFS and maybe a few older sets like the BSB, Imperial Trading Post, Eldorado Fortress or Skull Island just my thoughts...

Wow, that's quite cool. I love that Armarda guy flying into the water which really looks good thanks to SNOT. The combination of the new style leafs with the old palm tree is also rather smart. My only nitpick is that there are no waves on the beach (ie white plates in the SNOT) How old did you say you were? 14? I just can't believe that...
-
I really like how you made the cannon smoke with wadding. The greater amount of action going on makes the hole scenery appear more realistic and less sterile. The lanscaping is still a bit basic, but the battle scene makes up for that. I quite like how your entry has been evolving Since you regard it as finished now: Are you planning to present all the changes in a seperate thread or in the first post of this one?

Wow that is another stunning piece of art! Thanks so much for doing me! Keep up the good work. -Perfectionist

Great topic and a very interesting idea! Infortunately there is no such thing as a set 7496! I still hope TLC will once release one!
-
That's a nice castle you have presented us there in a quite detailed way, thanks! And so fast, just after release! I love the pearl dark grey as well! I've already fallen in love with it when I saw the new cannons in the 2009 pirates line. I think the set itself is okish to good, but the accesoires and new bricks are truely outstanding! I hope to see them on Bricklink soon.
-
Thanks! That's exactly what I was looking for. I just turned on the volume to experience what you have been complaining about.... it's quite a pain to listen to it!
-
Yeah, some new photos would have been great although you have shown us a lot already. I simply love the good old classic colour scheme, very nostalgic considering that soon Pirates will be discontinued The anchor might look better in black and SNOT though.
