  1. Indeed it did work! Thank you very much!
  2. The musket looks good to me, however I wonder if you can mount a bayonet to the side? It looks like the u-clip would be to much stressed... Another issue is posing the musket in such a position the soldier could aim from... it might be possible but I can't tell from the pics. Other than that it's great work, but there might be room for improvement concerning the usability with a minifigure.
  3. Ok, here go my votes: 2 points Fugazi 3 points ZCerberus Good luck to all; it has been a very funny and entertaining competition!
  4. I really like your ships and even more your general design style which is simple yet effective. It also greatly reminds me of the original pirate sets only that your design are way bigger and more detailed. As CGH has mentioned they also look similar to late 17th century warships; a period not often seen here on the forums. I have noticed you have used quite some inspiration from my two frigates; esspecially the masts and interior look familiar to me. I appreciate that, however if you use a lot of techniques and inspiration from one particular design it would be appropriate to give credit; actually giving credit is never wrong but sometimes a lot of work. I also noticed your gundeck is only 4 bricks and one plate high. That may improve the overall sleek appeareance, but it won't allow a minifigure with headgear to stand straight. It would be great if you would manage to make at least one of your ships (preferably the large frigate) in real bricks; I wish you the best of luck with it!
  5. Even though I like the idea of modding the BSB, I think the increased lenght does somewhat spoil the overall appeareance since the ship is -apart from the stern- quite sleek. Thanks for sharing though.. the dust on it tells me that this is "old" work.
  6. Thanks a lot. Now I have to see if the presentation is as good as everybody said EDIT: Hmm I get an incomplete presentation.. is that related to a newer Adobe Reader?
  7. Bah, us Bluecoats would never fail to kill those stinky animals! Nice scene though... and a creative idea.
  8. Nice Vignette! I like the capstan even though its bars are a little short. The joint pieces as cannonballs and MOC cannons also look nice. However I'm not sure why you haven't simply put them on wheels...
  9. Sounds great! I am very much looking forward to that since until now the shape looked "too flat". Other than that I agree that a brickbuild lifeboat looks much better. Good luck on your ship!
  10. Thanks for the review. Due to this I see this set now much more realistically as an average or above average one (thought it would be better before). The value for money is outstanding though... Did you encounter any issues with low quality pieces?
  11. So here go my votes: 2 points for Helen of Toy by ZCerberus 2 points for Guess Who's Coming To Dinner by Fugazi 2 points for The Adventures of the Blue Avenger! by Oky Wan Kenobi 1 point for The ''Red Lympics'' by Captain Blue Hair
  12. Thanks for all the kind replies. Again, I'm sorry for the faded colour on those photos. This is how the colourscheme really looks: Now let me give some answers: I used "Repair Extreme" glue from Pattex. I think the brand doesn't really matter, but what is important is that it remains flexible and is hardly visible. The ratlines alone took me about a week, but of course I didn't spend more than 3-4 hours per day on them. One of the reasons I stretched Achille to 6 mids is to make her look different from Guerriere which still has only 5 mids. I agree that the additional lenght makes the ship look better from some perspectives, however I feel the lenght/width ratio to be more realistic with 5 mids. I'm not quite sure what you wanted to say, but I'm pleased you like her. Indeed I had to smile a bit when placing the croissant. Although it was initially meant to make the ship look more French, it does make me think of your avatar. You are correct about the yards, but I don't think a lone 3mm tube or bars would be stable enough for the upper ones. So I guess we will have to live with that. Of course I like to hear you used my lantern design... will there be a update on your fabulous vessel any time soon? I would really like to know how she looks, esspecially the stern. I'm glad you like her, but... "a more elaborate solution with soem ornaments"? On a 2x3slope piece? I'm sorry, but that sounds completely impossible to me without customization, even though I can understand your point of critic. I don't really want to know the exact cost, but I'm sure it is roughly 15 cents per piece taking into account the order stats on BL and all the pieces left over. Essentially, the stern is overhanging the stern prefab by one stud more while the cannon in the captain's cabin has been moved 2 studs in front due to the stretch, which gives 3 additional studs for the interior. Because of the added possibility for stern chsers, the ornaments above the windows had to be redone and squeezed a bit. Still, I think they look even better now. Thanks again for your praises, I'll post some progress pics of Guerriere as soon as she has some more rigging!
  13. That's a nice ship. I also like the changes you've made. Still, I would swap the prefab masts and rigging vs brickbuild mast and custom rigging! It's a lot of wor and somewhat expensive, but IMO really worth it!
  14. No worries, here's the upgrade. You might have seen some of these pics on Brickshelf already. First of all I'd like to credit Admiral Croissant for the bell design and inspiration on deck details and masts with 3 sections. I also have to thank Captain Green Hair, Admiral Bèjaune and Captain Blackmoor for help and inspiration on MSN. Now here we go: Actually so many things are new that I can't really mention all of them, but the most important changes are: -6 midsections -more brown pieces used in the hull -deck details in dark red -completely new mast and yard design using 32 long technic axles, technic connectors, SNOT platforms and 3mm tubes -black string rigging (standing rigging only so far) with smaller strings being glued for additional detail -improved stern and captain's cabin -completely new bow -the hatch on the gundeck is now accessible and there's now a combuse No. of guns: 22 on gundeck, 6 on topdeck, 6 swivels, 2 bow chasers = 36 in total No. of Lego pieces used: ca. 4800 Amount of string consumed: ca.140m Under construction since: October 11, 2009 The colours, esspecially red and dark red are a bit messed up due to poor lightning. Sorry for that, it's only WIP though. I'll update Guerriere again, Achille will get some sails and rope details (steering wheel, anchor) and possibly a bit of running rigging and then... ... she'll be completed. Actually that would be overdue after almost a year of construction! Hope you like her so far!
  15. Now quite some time has passed and -of course- work on my frigates has continued. Both have been largely rebuilt and Achille now has 6 midsections. They both feature a new and very innovative mast design. I'll post a major update later, but here's a teaser pic of Achille, her standing rigging being almost completeted! I'm quite satisfied with how she looks, but what do you think?
  16. I hate to say it, but this is the first Lego set that is just a copy of a very good MOC. It's DMAC's shuttle, already copied by cavegod: I just hope TLG bought the construction from DMAC, otherwise it would be really a shame There are enough people stealing MOCs on EB and Flickr already, I do hope TLG won't join them.
  17. Hmm wasn't it originally Bonaparte who posted this? Anyways, the prizes are absolutely amazing as are those from the LDD contest. I need to focus on my ships a bit more, but I will most likely enter one of these two! I esspecially like that there are prizes even for the 4th to 6th!
  18. Hurray, 2nd! Now I hope to get my first ever tag First of all a huge thank you to everyone who voted for me. Although everybody sais it has been a close call (and the entries were fantastic indeed), PrEtzel was the clear favourite from the beginning of voting. His entry was absolutely fantastic using innovative techniques and featuring both a full interior and a very interesting background story. So he is an absolutely deserved winnner for sure! Congratulations, PrEtzel! As Aalak stated already my entry came together in quite a rush, I bought the plants from my local Lego Store on Saturday afternoon, built it on Sunday and photographed it on Monday So yes, I'm very happy indeed given the amount of time I had available! Now I'm very curious to see those Brickarms bayonets with my own eyes. I haven't been much into 3rd party items so far, but that can change More Redcoats is also great since my British army is kind of smallish.. Thank you Zorro & everybody else who made this contest possible!
  19. It has been a unique and fun competition, thanks a lot to those who made it possible! We usually don't see that many battle MOCs here, so it's great we had this contest! Allright, now here are my 3 votes: 19. TinyPiesRUs 1. Ratshot 3. DanMov (one point each ofc)
  20. More photos: Brickshelf (800x600) or Flickr (high res)
  21. I'm not such an expert in photography, but still deeply impressed! Keep it up!
  22. Haha, great idea, you're really playing with the human fear of machines developing a consciousness and eventually taking over (like in "Terminator"...) very well! Isn't it a bit early, I think your last vignette has been posted only like 23h ago? I'll be checking for the remaining 7, keep it up!
  23. May I ask you where you got that picture from? Looks interesting that some people actually put cannons in boats... not sure how they managed with the recoil... So you're certainly right in the sense that some people apparently did put cannons in row boats, but still th eboat looks a LOT larger than the Lego one and the cannons much smaller
  24. It's a bit late too post it right now, but I've just figured out that the average price per piece ratio is 10cents, which is very good for licensed themes! I mean a Star Wars set featuring like 350 bricks usually costs around 50€... I very much like the new tan bush and other plants!
  25. It still looks good, but IMO it's better to build in system if your not planning on any mechanism! Actually most good technic builders use normal bricks for the exterior! But of course it's a good practice if you've not been into technic so far...
