  1. This truly is a creative, in a way funny and very well done entry. The rock is absolutely stunning; at least I couldn't imagine a better one. The ladder is also very nice. However I do think that the water is a bit to high above the coast line (although it also looks great). I also am not so much a fan of pirate ships build with the wiking ship hulls; the bow seems too low, the masts ans sails way too small. On the other hands this touch of unrealism could add to the cartoon-like apeareance of the whole idea which I like much as stated above. You certainly have a good chance of winning - but there is still more than a month to go and much more entrys will be added. I'm also working on one Perfectionist
  2. UPDATE: I worked on the stern for a bit. This design is pretty much final. The ship's name will be placed as a sticker in the center. Trying out a mast design: Custom lanterns: This is why there is no interior : I didn't start on building the deck yet because I still wait for an order from BL containing brown bricks which will be replacing the reddish brown ones used on the hull. I'll have to take pretty much the whole ship apart for this , so I'll do the deck in the same step.
  3. Well I went to Hamburg for a few days, found some nice inspirations for doing the rigging and also enjoyed the local Lego store having the 1X1 headlight bricks on their PaB wall , unfortunately I had no internet, so let me give some answers now. The middle tube will curve the other way. It just didn't when I took the photo. I tried to model the plastic ornaments about each gunport a bit, but since the there only are 4 studs between the gunports on this design, it may not look as good as intended. I'll give your sugestion a try. I've not yet found a completely satisfactory solution to this. I've already looked on all the MOC ships. The galleries on the "Prince of Wales" for example do not have such a gap, but they are inclined the same way the stern is, which I tried to avoid. I'll try something out using bars or tube for closing that gap. This is indeed a mistake and it's one that I wasn't aware of. Fixed already. Thanks very much for noting Not exactly on this one, but on my PTVII entry, which is the main reason I joined this forum, hence the name My entry will be a ship of the line put into ordinary when peace broke out. Pretty much in minifig scale. Unfortunately the stern design doesn't allow one. But I will make the deck modular to be able to remove the guns for having closed gunports. I have to cut tubes to make them fit Thanks for all those suggestions and feedback. Today (sunday) I got plenty of time for building, so I hopefully update pics soon. I also ordered brown bricks for the curve just above the hull pieces to replace the reddish brown ones at Bricklink. Best regards Perfectionist
  4. I am. I yet have to decide on the cloth for the sails though
  5. Good work for sure. Really captures the atmosphere as it should. I just wonder where did you get those mexican brown minifig heads? I mean they would be on bricklink for sure but I'm just interested what set they came in. Perfectionist
  6. Magnificent and I don't say that all too often. The swordfish jumping out of the water make this MOC very lively, the detailed front of the building is quite well done. I really don't see any negative points here. Good work!
  7. Wow, that's truly an outstanding creation and very creative. I really like your skull in the floor and the way you positioned the minifigs. The overall look is quite harmonic also. What I noticed though is that on the big reddish brown bow piece on the right, the studs show up while they're quite nicely tiled on the left one! Other than that small aspect a great MOC that imo would deserve winning.
  8. I announced this thread 2 days ago. Since I did make some significant changes to the design and basically didn't want to mess with the Captain's way of building such a ship in his own thread (an excellent manual ) I post it in here. Major Updates have happened. Check them out: 1st UPDATE (STERN) 2nd UPDATE (COMPLETE REDESIGN) 3rd UPDATE (TOPDECK+CAPTAIN'S CABIN) 4th UPDATE (HULL ALMOST COMPLETED!) 5th UPDATE (BOTH SHIPS ALMOST COMPLETED!) 6th UPDATE (REBUILD OF ACHILLE AND SOME STUNNING RIGGING) Below is the first post of the development process: I finally got the headrails look the way I want them to Note the improvements to the old version (which Admiral Croissant commented on): I quite like the look of metallic grey guns looking out of their gunports The ultra-smooth gunports using 1X1 headlight bricks : The stern decorations are still a bit preliminary; the headrails even more. Mostly I intended to find out which techniques I would use for this creation, the final design will base on them. I'll keep this thread updated as the build progresses. Feedback is welcome!
  9. Surprisingly, you have not used the standard Lego hull pieces but instead built your own. To me that's a good start Though I have to agree with Zorro that the Crusader sail seems a bit misplaced. Also only two sails on a single mast is too few for a seaworhy ship of the age of sail. Additionally I would suggest to lower your bow a bit and make the sides of the ship considerably higher. Perfectionist
  10. What the heck! 10 mermaids? I bought the pirate advent calender only to got one of them. A shame I don't live in the US for that matter. Shipping to Europe is pretty much a nightmare Perfectionist
  11. Wow, well that one certainly does! I just saw some smaller ships of you while browsing the ship MOC index. I didn't know about this one though. The rigging is superb. And although is seems to be made with prefab hull pieces they're not visible. Quite stunning. Ok, so I guess I have to take back that comment. You appear to have a ship, a harbor, a fort and now a lighthouse and all of them are superb. Perfectionist
  12. Na, I just thought that ships using the Lego style hulls would be a bit smallish in comparism to the tower. Perfectionist
  13. I chose a red hull with black stripes for the gun ports on my current project (French 80gun man o' war; 1*52 scale waterline model; modular structure, full interior and SNOT hull.. 116 cm on the lower gundeck and 29cm wide... no WIP pictures since its for PTVII). I got a bit bored during the build, so I started on a frigate based on prefab hull pieces pretty much following your excellent manual until step 5. I then came up with an entirely different gunport design, a simplier, slightly wider stern and headrails using 3mm rigid hose. I think these changes are to some extend improvements and I'll soon post some pictures, probably in a seperate thread to not mess around with this one which should be dealing with your shipbuilding process. Best regards Perfectionist
  14. Wow. To me this shows that AFOL interests have been very well communicated (esspecially regarding the announcement of the new admiral's flagship). Although i missed the survey, i can quite well identify with the results. Great work Perfectionist
  15. Yeah, I used to collect all my damaged Lego pieces in order to use them for such purposes; e.g. a broken sword as a result of a duel or broken plates to be put on damaged buildings. For fotostorys or animated short movies this is actually quite a good idea. The General just needs an intimidating monster in his story
  16. Strange. At the local Lego store (there's one here in Cologne), 3 Minifigs (there also is the governor torso) cost 5,49 €, while the battle pack containing 4 minifigs and a treasure chest costs 12,99 €. So apparently the regular minifigs are in this case considerably cheaper. Probably the differences come from another production line. I remember when I was in Legoland in 2002, the original manufacturing process for minifigs was shown. The arms are preassembled, the legs and heads not. Since the entire process is atomatised the only way to preassemble a complete minifig is to run a different production line using different machines (and moulds), hence resulting in qualitiy differences. Im pretty sure though that this was'nt intended by TLG. Perfectionist
  17. In my opinion, this is the BEST ship build on prefabricated hull pieces ("minifig illusion scale as Bonaparte called it earlier in this thread) shown at this forum at this moment. Its propotions are perfect and the sails very well made, esspecially their size looks realistic. Also the MOC anchor and the way the stern is almost integrated into the hull make this ship look very much like one of those elegant, big french 74s (although this one actually is a 64 gunner ) of the late 18th century. Btw: I didn't forget the "Prince of Wales"; i like the elegant shape of the "Sang Royal" better if I may say so. But its probably a question of taste
  18. The rock is certainly one of the best points about this creation. Hence you can do landscape pretty well. I wonder though, which ships should this massive tower guide into harbor? As far as I know, you have none in minifig scale best regards Perfectionist
  19. Certainly a very nice design so far. The way you manage to get a full interior in there is truly great. Though i wonder how you are going to make it modular, esspecially with all the (hopefully custom) rigging to come. To be honest i dont like your gunport design. I'd prefer tiles at this point. An Eagle in that (small) size is probably the most difficult figurehead i could think of! Maybe, you could use some kind of helmet feathers for the wings?
  20. Bluecoats rule! Plus they are inherently French. (Well to be honest I simply always had more of them, hence it was cheaper for me to concentrate on blues for my army and marines.)
  21. If I could have one more, I would go for Brickbeards Bounty because its the only ship in the new pirates series so far and also because all the other sets dont really feature anything that I would consider as being very interesting. They are all rather simply build. But thinking of the prices this isnt very likely to become reality since none of the sets gives very good pieces for Mocing (in relation to what it costs) and I currently need every cent I can get for a almost minifig scale 80gun sotl
  22. This certainly is a very nice idea, but i would agree with the posts above that there still is room for improvement. Personally, Im not a big fan of studs showing up. Additionally to what has been suggested already, i would strongly recommend tiling. The main downside is thats its expensive and the parts needed are rather difficult to get. But at some point, you should try it I guess.
  23. I like it. Its so damn evil. Poor redcoat soldier. But I guess he deserved it Thats the good thing about the new sharks: they really look frightening. And they can completely "eat" minifigs.
  24. Thats an absolutely amazing creation. Though I think doing the sea with tiles or sloping transparents could make it even better. The story you suggested is in my opinion also a rather nice one.
  25. I really like your lantern. My favourite of the small entrys so far. All the details go together quite nicely.
