Your skills in building outstanding landbased MOCs never stop to amaze me, I am most impressed by the wooden house; it looks as realistic as you can get with Lego. The landscape detail will surely improve by large amount, so I can't say much about it. My only small nitpick would be that the water is at the same level as the beach and it also doesn't have plastic waves. I think maydayartist did a good job modeling them. Well, I guess whenever I might have an attempt o something landbased, I'll have a look at your many MOCs, but that isn't surprising, is it?

I cannot say much about the Trimaran, other than that it looks like one, but on your frigate-like creation (since it has all the sails): It's nice you put effort in making the underwater part of the hull, yet it goes at a 45 degree angle in your case, while it should curve. Also, the hull would be rather "fat" for the lack of a better word, and curve more elegant at the stern. The bow would also curve, and that much steeper so that it's almost at 90 degrees above the waterline (sometimes it would curve back due to the tumblehome). In addition to that the hull would curve in two ways (width and height) and also have said tumblehome! I also get the impression your masts and yards are way too thick, at least the upper parts should be thinner. The stern is looking quite good, but it should, be angular if you want it to be realistic. I get the impression, it's more difficult to build with LDD than with real bricks, but there have been some very good LDD MOCs. So, I guess you wanted feedback, so here it is! I hope you're successful in improving your creations, they are not bad, but there's a lot to be improved nonetheless.

One thing that's really interesting about the classification of those age of sail warship is how the guns were counted. Before the war of 1812 only broadside long guns were counted while carronades, swivels and chasers were usually left out. When Carronades became more popular and it became a trend to put them on the entire topdeck of warships, especially frigates, it was no longer possible to leave them out; so all guns were counted, This made the Leda class 38 gun frigates become rated as a 46 gun ship with essentially the same armament. For Lego ships this means that there are also various ways on how you determine the gun count. For example Achille has a total of 36 guns: 22 on the gundeck, 6 on the topdeck, 2 forechasers and 6 swivels. By the means of the old classification it would be a 28 gun 6th rate. However since it's rather large for a Lego ship in minifigure illusion scale with its 6 midsections, I wanted to give it the impression of a 5th rate. Hence I claimed it to be a ship "carrying 36 guns", an expression that is accurate either way, even though most people won't notice. Actually you could do the same with your ship too, even more so since it's also 6 midsections and your small guns are smaller. That would mean placing a total of 38 guns on it (e.g. 22 on the gundeck, 10 on the topdeck, 2 forechasers and 4 swivels). Since you already have those with the exception of swivels, you could just add for of those and - tada - you have a 38 gun Lego frigate! Anyway, concentrate on building for now and don't put too much pressure on finishing it. If you want your ship to be really good, you just have to take your time, which means at least a few moths. I wish you good luck with it; and let's hope you'll be able to get the bricks you need!

The hull technique is quite innovative, I don't think I've seen it before on a hull of that size. I am however not sure how you plan to finish it since the sides are at quite an angle and also not at the same height, so building on top of it might become quite hard. When you started "planking" it with tiles it looked much better than it does now with studs up, but on the other hand I don't like studs in general. I also agree with Admiral Croissant that both aesthetically and historically white would be a more appropriate color than black, but maybe it's too late for you to change that now. But it's looking good so far and I also like your way of presenting your WIP. Good luck with your build!

Hmm, I guess I also didn't finish my community build entry in time, for which I felt quite ashamed back then. I must say I'm quite surprised that you found the enthusiasm and the courage to finish yours - and it's well been wort it! Your lighthouse really looks authentic and nice overall. The combination of wood on stone works quite well. Still, it looks like it could catch fire very easily and the way you made the "light" with flames just makes it feel even more unsafe! I would strongly suggest to put a glass of some sort above your light or at least make it look like the lighthouse isn't burning. The two additional scenes with the ship really make this MOC stand out even more! Your waves and also the rock look fantastic; very realistic and the fact that the ship was nominated in that voting thingy tells that it is seen an outstanding creation too. With all the sails it looks best, of course, maybe you should have posted it like that in the beginning. Maybe there could be a few more sailors on the galleon, but that's just a thought.

The bayonets look very interesting, still I would prefer those from brickarms since the scale seems much more appropriate. Fortunately I got a few thanks to a Classic-Pirates.com contest and our very much missed Zorro. The decals look quite interesting for Napoleonic war MOCs though, maybe there will be a contest at some point. They would have been great for Bayonets at Dawn.

You know you are a fan of LEGO when your MOCs stand in the wardrobe and your clothes lie on the floor.

I'm sorry, but I don't think the headrails are accurate as they are now: they're way too big. Actually I would completely get rid of the lower part. Also the figurehead is too low. Usually it would stick up a bit above the headrails, about where the topdeck railing ends. The stern decorations seem too much to me, also the stern should be lower, about where the railing is. In addition the big flowers may be a little too big. Try to experiment a bit on the stern to make it more interesting. Also some thin yellow lines would add a lot to break up all the black. You could do the same for the topdeck - or go with a red line as Admiral Croissant did on his Vesta. Have you seen this particular frigate (Leda type). I'll probably visit it mid-February and post some pictures, but for now these have to do. Hope this helps!

I think if you leave it like this, the hull will be to narrow in relation to its width, a little bit like the Vasa. I would recommend either making the decks lower or the hull larger. The lenght/width ratio seems good though. I also notice the stern should curve way more upwards at the keel. Good luck!

It's not bad as a start. The gallows looks a bit odd and the minifigure should hang rather straight, verticalto the ground (try and loosen the string maybe). I sort of like the shark and how you made the waves in front. The minifigures you've chosen are British (redcoats), so jut Helmets won't make them Spanish. There has been an Armada subtheme though, so you could have proper Spaniards. Alternatively you could take some castle minifigures with armor printing and put helmets on.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 4 discussion
BrickPerfection replied to legokuate's topic in Special LEGO Themes
The guy in the ABC suit is a bit untypical for Lego, it reminds me so much of nuclear disaster scenarios! Might work great for a MOC like "meltdown in a nuclear power plant". The sailor would be kind of nice for ironclads/ WWI warships. Still I get the impression that since Series 2 (Spartan!) they're getting worse. Come on, where's my Roman? Arr almost missed this one, I should be checking the forums more often! -
I like how you're still working on this! I also agree with Masked Builder that the chairs look really good, it's more evident on the new picture. Still, I'm not sure about the half circle. It should go around the curve as Brickdoctor said; and it also should be a bit wider. Have you tried 3mm hose, rigid with technic pins on it? You can bend that and it's quite easy to attach!

El Bricko MOC - Peoples choice award
BrickPerfection replied to I Scream Clone's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
That is just so impressive for a lanscape display! The buildings in true minifigure scale combined with that detail is quite amazing. I really like how all these reddish brown tiles create the impression of mud! Though I'm wondering: does any of these buildings have an interior? Maybe the amount of cactuses is a bit too much. Well it's really nice to look at anyway. The Western theme was buried way too early. -
Welcome! I kind of like how you made your nick into your avatar. Themes has been asked already. Did you have a dark age? And.. do you prefer collecting or building stuff? Anyway, hope you enjoy it around here.

General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread
BrickPerfection replied to Oswald the Rabbit's topic in LEGO Pirates
Is it just me or did anyone else notice the new 2x1 curved slopes? They are in the Captain's cabib set, in the globe stand. Just saw them this moment. They're not on Bricklink, so they must be new. Actually these might proove very useful for MOCs, I sort of missed such a brick while building SNOT mast platforms... But of course there will be a lot more purposes for them. It's a nice variation to cheese slopes, isn't it? -
Welcome to Eurobricks! Well, that somebody is pulled out of his dark age by his children is interesting, though not uncommon. Do you only build with your kids or do you also buy Lego that is just for yourself?
-
Honestly, I don't think Lego should be considered nerdy if model building or stamp collecting isn't. I mean, there are a lot of interesting and exotic hobbies but the only distinction I see is popular vs exotic hobbies. If somebody is a nerd however is a completely different question. Of course AFOLs could be nerds and I'm sure some are, but that doesn't mean we are all nerds (at least I hope so ). And even if, Lego is fun, so who cares. I'm still wondering why would noone consider a guy who only plays football in his free time, has no real friends and no other skills or interests, a nerd?
-
A nice build with a lovely ambiance. I really do like the round wall, something w don't get to see too often. The SNOT water has become some sort of standard for calm winds. I like how you put some light blue in there. As already mentioned, the droid-head-duck is most likely ingenious since it looks so real. The levers are also a great idea to close those little gaps and the dark brown planks on the left roof add a lot. What I'm not so sure about is the yellow roof and how it is attached to the tower. Looks pretty loose for my taste.
-
It's simple yet effective! Maybe you could replace the brown legs with brickbuild ones or tile them, but that's just a thought.
-
Oh my, that is so impressive! So many minifigures and then such rare ones like the chrome stormies... Maybe showing off in such a way is on the borderline to decadence, but I still like it. I just noticed it didn't quite make it in the top 3... Well I guess it was judged more as a MOC than as a photography, but it's really well photographed nonetheless. Would have deserved getting in there IMO.

General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread
BrickPerfection replied to Oswald the Rabbit's topic in LEGO Pirates
I agree with you that this is probably the most eagerly awaited set of the upcoming PotC lineup and I'm really looking forward to it and it bringing more people into Shipbuilding (I hope), but on a second thought after seeing these lovely pics: I really have a problem with the stern design. Well, we'll see what it's like when first reviewed, but it looks a bit cheap to me from that angle. Just two big windows and that's it! -
Well as annoying it may be compared to MOCing, sorting bricks is really essential if you want build anything decent on a regular basis. Overall it saves a lot of time and allows to order just the bricks needed on Bricklink! That said, I can't understand why there are still so many people who don't sort their "treasure". Personally I prefer to maintain a general collection sorted primarily by type and secondarily by colour plus I keep special bricks related to projects and huge quantities of bricks in plastic bags next to the projects they were ordered for so that the core collection doesn't get to messy. Sort of works
-
Welcome to Eurobricks! Maybe you want to build some MOCs (My Own Creation) at some point. It's fun and comes cheaper than collecting! You can also feel proud about the skills yuo may develop. There's no need to feel crazy about an exotic hobby. I know a lot of adults in Germany that are into Lego!
-
Welcome to Eurobricks! That is very sad to hear of course, but it also gives you a chance to shift your focus. You could concentrate with all your sets or MOCs on just one theme which would allow you to get much deeper in it!
-
Looking good! The few studs on the plates don't bother me at all even though I'm more of a tiles fan. I'll keep that in mind. The structure inside will certainly be interesting, but I can understand if you want to keep it for yourself. Are you planning to add an interior too? Should be doable at this size. Also it would look quite interesting!
