  1. This is going to be so awesome! I'll follow your progress closely as a motorised UCS Sandcrawler has been on my to do list for a long time. As for the treads, they most easily work with these or these. Given the size of the monster you're creating, I'd go for the former.
  2. Not that I've built a modular of my own, but since you've got a lot of tan why don't you get the Grand Emporium? That should give you ample tan as to use as a base for your designs and you can supplement this with purchases of smaller quantities of other bricks to accent the tan.
  3. Perhaps more appropriate in the Technic section? I'd make a walker for the wow factor - click here for instructions for the Motorised AT-AT.
  4. Nice job! Do you know the top speed? I've had this issue when building vehicles with 2 drive motors - there doesn't seem to be an improvement (in efficiency) compared to using a single drive motor. My Batpod uses a single XL geared 3:1 and reaches ~5.5 km/h. However my racing truck (of which I'll soon take pictures) uses two XL drive motors geared up ~3.57:1 (to wheels similar in diameter to the Batpod) and and reaches ~6 km/h, which isn't noticeably faster (then there's another bike I've just completed which uses an XL geared 5:1 and goes ~11 km/h on half-charged batteries ). I think it is the slight difference in speed between multiple motors that causes this problem. Is the moral of the story to simplify and add lightness or is there a solution?
  5. Merry Christmas! I am thinking about three of these battery boxes for the group S@H order if they are discounted as some suspect they will be. P.S. Anyone received their Lego Club package? I won't spoil the surprise, but this one is great
  6. Hmm, that would work, but wouldn't that place a lot of strain on the motor? I.e. the gearing up would increase torque load on the motor and reduce the speed of rotation? I'm not sure, I'll try it out. Thanks
  7. Could someone please recommend the wind-up motor most suited to make a small clockwork model? Ideally I'd like the one with the most revolutions - the Racers pullback motors from 2009 are powerful but don't spin for very long. I'd like one with the opposite characteristics Oh I forgot - I'm considering this one.
  8. Zblj, about the stability: it's pretty horrible, because there is hardly any 'self-balancing' in corners. The steering turns pretty much parallel to the ground (there is a slight angle to it), so when turned the front wheel doesn't really lean the bike into corners. The wheels are these. I suppose it would be more accurate with tyres from 8880. On flat smooth surfaces it's a treat. Right turns can be made at full throttle; left turns can't. This is because the 5L half-beam in the picture hits the frame in right turns, reducing the steering angle. P.S. Can someone with a rechargeable battery box build this? It only uses ~260 parts, I'd love to see it go with less weight. The AA battery box weighs a tonne.
  9. Nice work Possibly switch the three 16z gears in between the diffs with 16z clutch gears and mount them on axles rather than pins?
  10. Thanks! I'm a horrible skateboarder I used a camera car similar to Mahjqa's eight-wheeled one, except the rear axle had the same wheels as the Batpod. It was fine indoors but outside it made a racket.
  11. A LDD model of my Batpod. Apart from the Power Functions, the only rare part is the hockey spring.
  12. Thanks to both mahjqa and Zblj for inspiration
  13. Congratulations You thoroughly deserve it, the quality (and quantity) of your models is amazing.
  14. A bit redundant given the 20% off voucher Has anyone seen either this year's Hero Factory or last year's Bionicle vehicles?
  15. Yup. Check out the instructions for the car. I think there is also something similar in the RIS Mindstorms 2.0 instructions.
  16. Nice work! The steering is very clever. I've also been making a PF bike, and we both have the same arrangement and orientation of the PF elements
  17. Thanks - I haven't gotten around to building mine yet, but as it was purchased from the London Lego store on their opening day (18th November) I'm pretty sure it's a version 2! 20% off seems so inadequate after Brickbeard's Bounty at TWH for $30, under half price PoP, and half price TS. Currently I have an unhealthy amount of unopened sets, so unless there's a fantastic bargain, I'm staying away from all Lego outlets. There is still Trade Me though
  18. I qualify, but will pass too Just interested in how to distinguish between versions 1 & 2 - or do you have version 1 and the service pack?
  19. I really like Hyperbeast. It's so colourful and powerful. Great job, I like the music too
  20. Look what The Warehouse has
  21. Long time no see. The crane is $200 at TW and from memory the excavator is $330 at Moore Wilsons.
  22. I've heard nothing but bad things about Fishpond Lego. Often it's listed above RRP and the apparent discount is artificial - i.e the AT-AT retails at $229. Plus they don't really hold stock, but rather a front for wholesalers. I've also heard of people ordering things that are actually a good deal, only to find later the item is unavailable. In short, I think the site is hopeless and with sites like The Book Depository around I don't expect Fishpond to last much longer. About my previous Lego direct posting: I'm still not sure if it works in NZ as I haven't received replies to my messages or emails. However it's great if you've got relatives in Europe
  23. Awesome stuff, I like the new grey panels. How many times did you have to throw the model to get it in shot?
  24. Sorry, should have clarified. Has anyone in NZ used this to get specific parts direct from Lego - not the replacement/lost parts form, where orders can only be from one set.
