TECHNIC Sets from 2010
vmln8r replied to LordGalewind's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Oh wow, it's fantastic! I've just watched the video. Thanks so much for the review Anio The music is perfectly suited to the model. I'm really excited about 8043 and the future of Technic. This model in particular looks as wonderful as many of the great flagships from the 90's. -
The Minifigs are now on S@H for $4, much more reasonable. Did anyone get anything special from the TW coupon sale? I was thinking of getting a couple of Technic sets and the Taj Mahal, but didn't end up with either. The Taj was sold out and I can wait for a better deal on the Technic sets. Also, I've received my S@H order, took a while due to PaB

TECHNIC Sets from 2010
vmln8r replied to LordGalewind's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Wow, it's definitely a step up in complexity from the Bulldozer, gears galore! This will make a great first Big Technic Set for kids, it's sufficiently complex, the alternate is great, plus great potential for further models with all the gears and whatnot. Sort of like the old Universal Technic sets (or Meccano). I might get it for this reason rather than the model itself, just to see what can be made from the one box. -

Erm I'm a little late in replying, but this is so cool in all aspects. I really, really want one, I can't believe you made this in two days, it's just fantastic -
Nice collection Allan I like all the little differences between them. The white one with blue stripes is instantly recognisable as an old GTHO, great work

Awesome review Holodoc This set has great playability and if I was a kid I'd probably faint upon opening the box However I'm still undecided about this set, mainly because of the NZ RRP of $400. I think the (European) pricing is okay considering what you get, and is probably priced to steal sales from the entry level model train sets from the likes of Hornby. This offers a lot more excitement for young children than the average kid who likely values play features above realism.

Oh wow, this is so cool The old dark grey and bley work really well as camoflage. I'd never heard of this plane before, it's certainly a very unique and interesting shape, especially the rear tail. Overall, great MOC and thank you for the educational post!

Personally I don't sell on TM for profit; however it must be worth their while and I suppose if you have everything streamlined and know what you're doing it can be an efficient and profitable process. The only annoying aspect is that TM is so clogged up with overpriced new Lego that searching for vintage Lego becomes quite time-consuming.
-
This sure is a unique model, certainly the first I've seen. Aren't you scared of it sinking or water splashing in? Personally I'd be too scared to even try it out in the bathtub Can't wait to see subsequent versions of this very interesting concept

I basically bought what I couldn't have gotten from a retail store and no more. My logic was that the shipping becomes nominal for very large orders. Also TW will have most of the exclusives later on in the year which can be picked up during one of their many 20% off sales. Still, the anticipation of a large order would be quite fun I think a lot of stuff will end up on TM, like Home One at just below retail and Green Grocer for much more than retail.

I'm not certain, but I think the bronze Boba is US/Canada only I bought the X-Wing, some PaB and the adjustable PF remote from S@H. Could have bought more and more but had to draw the line somewhere. I also hope that if Lego sees a significant increase in S@H sales they might change their shipping policy. If they're concerned about sapping sales from the retailers they could limit it to PaB and other exclusive stuff.
-
This is great news! I hope it opens soon, we should be there in July. Fingers crossed...
-
Hi Legoman, hope you had a fun trip Has anyone noticed this message on S@H? I wonder if its the exclusive or the second 2010 wave... Another great deal from TW is IJ 7197 at half price.

Thank you very much for the generous offer Ted. The IF should be released by June in NZ so I'll probably wait for a sale pick and up that way. At least we can get it from a physical shop! S@H shipping is horrendous. I hope the situation in Canada changes. Perhaps TLG could have gotten away with things like this before the internet, but not now Thanks Prateek, no worries
-
Thanks for the responses everyone. We'll be in Canada for a few days around June. I might get something as a souvenir, it's no big deal. So the only way to get exclusives is either from the US or S@H? 'Cause getting something like the Imperial Flagship from Canada still works out a lot cheaper than from New Zealand.

Thanks so much for your excellent review Copmike You've got this so early! I like the parts and minifigs, just unsure about the colour. I think I prefer the preliminary version where some of the dark/cherry red slopes were reddish-brown. Perhaps I'll get this Slave 1 and Bricklink the brown parts.

Greetings from a non-Canadian. I'd like to know what the best Lego store in Toronto is, i.e. stocks exclusives (like the Tantive and Imperial Flagship). I was thinking TRU, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

I just got a brand new, 13 year old set from TradeMe: 6497. Yay nostalgia Wow, that'd make an enormous fort! I have one and agree it's a great deal, just like 50% off 7198 Fighter Plane Attack around Christmas time (although, my fort's Brickbeard was missing a hand for which I've ordered a replacement). I'm thinking of getting more to MOC Cloud City in anticipation of the Slave 1 later on.

Thanks Allan, I was about to ask the same question I'll definitely get Smash n Grab, it looks great. Welcome K R Brown, enjoy your stay

Awesome Milan! It's massive! -
How open are you about your Lego passion?
vmln8r replied to Fugazi's topic in General LEGO Discussion
For me this is simple. Of course I probably wouldn't introduce myself to someone and say, "Hi, I'm VMLN8R and I like Lego". But for people I know and spend time with, why would I keep such a trivial secret as playing with a toy? Surely that would diminish your enjoyment from it? -
No, as Fumoffu said 20% is for the cheapest item so you can't get more than 10% off. Not worth it IMO. Anyway, I'm passing by Farmers to have a look see, can't afford to buy at the moment. Edit: Farmers had two new Technic sets, 8048 and 8047. Toyworld had these too. The manager doesn't know when the other Technic sets will be arriving which was a disappointment

Excellent review Rufus! It was a pleasure to read from start to finish. I can't imagine how long this took but I really appreciate it as I've always wanted this set. Personally I think the wonderful engine details and the overall shape are the best bits. It looks like the best of the UCS sets in terms of realism. I can't find anything to complain about; I want one badly and money is the only thing holding me back. Although, the (inflated) Bricklink prices don't seem too bad... Oh, and if I had this excellent set, I'd definitely mirror the engines!
