Thanks for the info and taking those pictures. The drawers are these ones (scroll down). They are standard stock item for Bunnings. However, none of the Wellington stores have any in white (my preferred colour), nor can they order them in

I don't believe you need to wait or increase your post count: How to upload pictures to Brickshelf Posting Deeplinked Images from Brickshelf -
Nope, that's Nannan. They were $40 for a single set of three drawers, so not cheap at all. I bought three sets, but I will check out the Bunnings/Warehouse ones you've got. Can the drawers be removed from those? To make things easier for the customer?

I've got the ones in the left of the below picture. They're made by Sterilite and are about $40 or so from Mitre 10. The drawers can be removed completely, which is quite helpful. Cat's out of the bag by Nannan Z., on Flickr I agree - one of the good things about S@H was having certainty and confidence in the cost and security of your order. With this policy, I can't see any reason to purchase from there instead of Bricklink.

Thanks again for the nice comments on this. Yes indeed - here's a picture: The largest dark grey gear grips the rack rail. As for corners, the engine will need a pinion gear that can slide across the axle. This is perfectly feasible; however I realised this too late; at which point I just wanted to be done with it. For anyone who's interested, the gear combinations used were 8:8 > 12:20 > 12:20 > 12:24, which gives a final ratio of 1:5.6. I tried 1:24 (with a worm gear to a 24t), but that was just too slow.

Thanks folks This picture may help: Thanks! (and thanks too for providing that extra context) Sounds like a challenge. Despite living in Wellington, I haven't actually taken a ride on it yet Yup, these are almost all the bricks I own in dark orange (from the Sandcrawler). The engine itself is also truncated, as I wanted to maximise the use of the limited track length.

This hopefully won't need any explanation if you're a fan of the Railway Series books: More pictures here (the ones above are all clickable).

What a wacky design! I like the simple chassis, and the balance between speed and torque. Looks like fun -

Download here: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/vmln8r/1982-Carver/carverbyvmln8r.lxf. After getting the soft axles to form simple curves, I'm even more impressed by zblj's ability to make perfect augers out of them. -

Nothing - just the operator, as you say. Your make-shift servo sounds good, if bulky. -

Fabulous work Rufus. It's been fun following your progress, and your experimentation with decals has saved me (and I'm sure many others) a lot of time. Thanks! -

Thanks everyone for the nice feedback :D Nope (it doesn't return to centre, so there's no stress on the motor to hold the vehicle at a specific angle). eric trax: A camera mounted on a vehicle which uses the same motor and final gear ratio as the Carver itself. Like these ones, except without a 8878 (which would make matching the speeds of the two vehicles so much easier). -

vmln8r replied to vmln8r's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
KEvron: The motor isn't used as a servo, and doesn't return to centre. The gear combinations/ratios for simultaneous leaning (8:24 > 8:56) and turning (previous gears + 56:8 > 1:8 > 16:20) are sufficiently low that controlled turning isn't difficult. aeh5040: When I have time, I will whip up a LDD file. I'd like to see a video of Nimdian's Carver turning. I'm not sure about the original Dutch version, but the re-licensed US version has some sort of steering on the rear wheels, in addition to the front one. -
Perhaps this thread might be easier to read if posts were limited to one piece of recent work, and a link to any other stuff?

I said it on Youtube, and I'll say it again - that Portal display is incredible. Great job. -

That's great to hear. I must try out the smaller tyres. I'm curious, did you follow the instructions -to the letter- or just use them for guidance (and in either case, were they easy to follow?)?
-
It's not a huge deal, but both pages have amended text, particularly page 3. The thing is, I'm planning to get feedback on the instructions from the AFOL community before releasing it more widely to the general public (eg, through toy stores). So, I think it's best a set-in-stone PDF waits until the instructions are perfect - I'll be sure to let you know when they are.
-
Thanks. However, could you update the first and third pages?
-
Awesome! Let me know how it turns out. Pictures would be fantastic.
