  1. Yup, along with 3179 ($16) & 3181 ($49). We should get a cut for all this free promo!
  2. Hi everyone, I’d like to share my latest creation: the Junkers Ju 88. It’s a Luftwaffe airplane that had many roles. According to wikipedia it was used as a: Dive bomber/Tactical bomber/Night fighter/Torpedo bomber/Heavy fighter - phew! The idea for making this plane in Lego came to me after recently re-reading Roald Dahl’s autobiography Going Solo. There’s a great chapter where he encounters six Ju 88s in his Hurricane. I sure wouldn’t want to encounter one (especially not with a Hurricane): three pairs of eyes per plane plus front and rear gunners. For those who’ve read the book, I’ll start with a modified picture in the style of photographs in the book: I decided it’d be nice to try and build it using only parts from the IJ set 7198 Fighter Plane attack. It was fun to try and make something with a limited palette. This sort of dictated a building a “Lego Ju-88” rather than a “Ju 88 made using Lego.” Does this make any sense? The main flaw it that it seats only two people: A pilot and a front gunner – perhaps I’ll try to rebuild this again in the future with Indy’s dad controlling the rear machineguns Unmodified version of the first pic, showing my favourite view, front on, attack mode: Further images: There are plenty more images in higher resolution in my brickshelf folder where I may upload an Ldraw model if anyone is interested and I’m able to get my head around using Ldraw! Thanks for looking, one more ‘chopped image, over and out!
  3. Ooh, that's a bit of a shock. I'll ask TW Lower Hutt to check with the rep whether it can be ordered. As a bit of an aside, around December 2008 I found out Moore Wilsons got six Sandcrawlers "by accident." From what I was told this wasn't supposed to be in NZ stores either (however I wasn't following Lego at the time so can't be sure). So you never know, I'm keeping my eyes peeled and will keep pestering shops for the elusive 10210. No way I'm paying retail AND $80 for shipping
  4. All those crossed out on your list + some '09 sets.
  5. Hi everyone. TW Lower Hutt now have most of the '10 sets - don't think anything is worth picking up at the moment. I was also told 10210 should be at TW by June @$300.
  6. Went to Kmart yesterday. SW battle packs are $22, Army men $18, Freeco speeder $50 (I think), RC $28 & Woody's Round Up $109. They also had the ARC thing with Kit Fisto (can't remember the price). There were also what I think were the 2010 Fire sets. Didn't get anything as it looked overpriced and I am saving for 10210. The Army Men set looked tempting though.
  7. Hi Cavegod, Have you tried searching for digital printers in your area? I regularly print single A2 posters for $10 NZD each (~4 quid) and they also print on a blank sticker sheet. Hope this helps
  8. Yes, that seems sensible. Although I would have thought Lego NZ would have some "non-importation" clause for the retailers to prevent this. Thanks for the news Callum, I will head to TW on the day to find out about 10210. Also the new Kmart catalogue is out. SW and Army Men battlepacks $18 and "RC" is $28.
  9. I have one (8275) in a glass display cabinet, the rest are either on bookshelves or in pieces. You could use pressurised air (can or airbrush) to try and remove dust.
  10. Thanks for that Callum. Hmm, I hope the three month wait turns out to be wrong. At this stage I will try to remain patient
  11. $50 for the Landspeeder seems like a lot considering the piece count. I guess it's the figs Callum, do you know whether or not TW will get 10210 Imperial Flagship? It's just been released on S@H. Thanks
  12. Yes, TW in Lower Hutt. Didn't look at the price, I would imagine RRP.
  13. Wow, interesting! I'm sure you don't mean Johnsonville Toyworld? I have seen all those sets there and opening the first store in Johnsonville seems odd. I'm sure they will eventually have PaB, otherwise what is the point? Please update us if you find out anything else!
  14. Thank you Mark, that was very informative. I have used a clutch in a pneumatic walking beam engine, as part of the flywheel to reduce wear on the gears which span very fast as it was geared up (I should probably mention that the engine didn't work). I also found the clutch placement a little odd in the 'Barcode Truck' (8479) after reading your explanation. The grabber arm has gearing after the clutch whilst for the linear actuator the clutch is towards the end. It might be why my truck fails to lift a wheel without my help. Of course it could be the glued flex cables I am using...
  15. I just noticed you've crossed everything off your list No sales to report, although Toyworld are selling the Grand Carousel at $399, $100 less than retail.
  16. It looks excellent Milan The narrow tyres give it a dainty appearance, but is it heavy? I can imagine playing with it now, watching all the gears move and so on...
  17. I think they are pretty cool. They are plastic blocks after all. The first picture especially give the impression of a kite flying in the breeze. They would make a great addition to a park diorama.
  18. Ah, studded Technic. Nice model I love this building style where all the mechanisms are hidden under the body.
  19. Wow. I can't imagine the official set being better than this. There are so many great techniques in this, the overall look is superb, I love the colour scheme and it has that wonderful air of London opulence. If you made more similar buildings and joined them up, you could make a mini Knightsbridge! Congrats
  20. Very cool 12 cylinders!? Impressive, can't wait to see the updated version.
  21. Have you asked them to check their other stores? I found they are usually happy to do so. When I was looking for the AT-OT/Dropship, I remember seeing a Death Star at Kmart (Wellington). It was above eye level at the top of the shelves. I'm sure there is one lying around NZ somewhere.
  22. Thanks guys. Seth: This is the finished tower! The other eight floors were destroyed in a fire. I tried to simulate this with the holey roof and grey bricks. Well, thats my excuse - I wouldn't have enough brown bricks to build the complete tower
  23. These are excellent! I really like the shape of Dengar's one and Bossk's reminds me of the Sandcrawler. Thanks for sharing, I have also learnt a little more about Star Wars
  24. Here is my pop-up Brass Tower, from the Pokemon games. Inspired by 'tala's' pop-up Kinkaku-ji, I decided to make this last week as a birthday present for my brother. I finished it last Wednesday and yesterday I took some pictures. For those of you are interested , further information about the 'real' Brass Tower: Bulbapedia Getting it to fold was the most difficult. I started by watching tala's video and observed the folding mechanism. Then I made a micro model on two small baseplates to get my head around it. Many hours later... Essentially, two corners are hinged, two are not and all sides fold down. The ideal situation is when the baseplate fold lies along the same plane as the hinged corners (i.e. the building is at 45°). Simple! In theory. I found it difficult to place the building at exactly 45° and in line with the fold so with time running out I compromised which probably explains the flex when folding. Unfolding... I'm happy with the end result. I can't believe it works! It's my first proper 'MOC' in over two years and was a lot of fun. If there is a next time, I'll try to improve the folding. The model is now dismantled and the donor Sandcrawler is in the Works being rebuilt. Here is a short video. Music by Scott Walker - Sons Of. Brickshelf Enjoy! Feel free to comment. Let me know if anything needs explaining.
  25. This is really excellent pedro. Every so often its nice to make something from a limited selection of parts. Sometimes choosing from a big pool of parts confuses me
