  1. The steering system allows for tight wheel wells, and meant I could use those shiny (but wide) red wheels. This is a non-motorised version:
  2. Have a look at the set 9398; just tweak it to your liking: Instructions: http://www.brickset....ail/?Set=9398-1
  3. Add me to the list of doubters. I can't help feeling sorry for your efforts to get this thing to work. The ad-hoc approach is also puzzling, since this is clearly a massive investment. Have you tried making a much smaller plane, that might stand a greater chance of at least uncontrolled flight (however briefly), rather than getting bogged down with landing gears and such? (and of course, there's that train of thought that if if you're using non-Lego parts to improve the performance, why not go the whole hog and carve the thing out of wood?)
  4. Direct from Lego, they should be cheaper (this is the 2011 price): Element #: 4177239 RC buggy motor (sets 8366, 8421, 8376, 8475, 8287) £10.72 (GBP)
  5. I have no idea. A product fails to meet your particular criteria? That doesn't make it a bad product, particularly when its criteria weren't geared towards AFOLs in the first place. There's always the options of voting with your wallet, or building something to your liking. Anything else seems totally fruitless.
  6. In addition to being heavier than your current setup, the RC system is obviously not modular, which doesn't lend itself to flexibility and a compact design. I'd imagine it will result in a larger chassis than what you already have. Also, it's steering motor only has three steps. How have you been getting this thing to balance? Zblj and I have both built PF bikes*; I believe his used the steering and a wide rear wheel for balance, while mine had very low centres of gravity. * ; ;
  7. That's interesting, and I'd agree that the transition from studded to studless can be overwhelming. It just may take some time to become familiar with the techniques, to see how single parts can be used in a variety of ways, and also how they integrate with each other. Some resources you may find useful are this book on Technic building and instructions for fan-created models. That's also interesting. I would have thought otherwise, since they're still commonly used as structural parts on system sets.
  8. No gears! Pictures: http://www.flickr.co...157629840773178 Instructions file: http://www.brickshel...c/speedboat.lxf
  9. Meh. In terms of functionality, wouldn't the best option be to not include a body shell at all? As for loading it with rare colours; I'm sure the designers thought about that the first time round.
  10. It'd be nice if people built within the timeframe, rather than uploading something they'd prepared earlier.
  11. I think there's better things Lego could be making than recreating killing machines, regardless of their age. Rather than badgering Lego to make stuff that you want, why not make it yourself? Related discussion (silly premise included!)
  12. Mesmerising. It's amazing to see what you've done with a single motor.
  13. That's news to me. I was able to order eight a while back (along with the other nice parts from that set). I think if you live within their shipping zone (which I don't), Lego Direct works out pretty nicely for rare, in-production parts. It'd be nicer still if they had an online ordering system/catalogue and delivered further afield.
  14. Parts, definitely; it seems limiting to only construct your construction toy once. That said, many of my old studded sets remain built, I suppose due to nostalgia and that I don't find myself needing their parts.
  15. Some very ingenious techniques here, particularly with the suspension. Well done.
  16. They are all made of Lego.
  17. Excellent. I think a black grille would look better, however.
  18. I'm guessing you haven't heard of this guy.
  19. There's a link to instructions in the first post of this thread.
  20. Thanks. There's however a problem with covering the front - that grabber arm folds down and opens up, and I really don't want to lose that function.
  21. This is a work in progress - the functions are all there (motorized drive, retractable third leg with linked movements to the two main legs, and opening/closing/retractable grabber arm), but I'm not sure about the looks. Whaddya think?
  22. I believe he's whining about . I wish people would have some patience and be grateful for what people have already shown us. It's just a 'frickin Lego set.
