TSATS: Speedboat
vmln8r replied to dfs473's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yes, and if this is not an option, two M's or a geared up XL should do the job nicely. -
Wow Philo, this is very impressive work. That you built a 3D scanner out of Lego to do this? Incredible.

Why no Universal sets nowadays?
vmln8r replied to mobi's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I think the closest thing we've had in recent years was actually a Creator set, which has gears and whatnot, but also all the Power Functions needed to make an RC vehicle: -
Thanks! So it would fit in a smaller box (not that it matters, since Lego's only interested in the idea of Cuusoo projects, not the specifics).

CUUSOO link: lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/11292 Any ideas for improvements? Please let me know. As it, this Includes 225 jumper plates, 100 printed letter tiles and two 32x16 stud baseboards.

jovel, could you tell me what program was used to create those parts? I'm interested in making some parts, and it would be cool to 3D print 'em.

It's clear from the Toy Fair videos that some of Lego's reps don't have a clue about the intricacies of the sets on display - so they're perhaps not the best people to relay feedback to the designers. I don't see the logic behind complaining about the crawler's colour scheme. This is an opportunity to get parts in new colours. If they aren't to your taste, then swap them out for something else.

Antarxa arctic vehicle
vmln8r replied to mahjqa's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Great job on the vehicle; the hub drive in particular is very clever. Interesting that you've used Lifelites - the only thing putting me off is their need for a separate power source. It's times like this when I want to move to Europe and play in the snow. -

Thanks for that! I've ordered the parts, so we'll see how it goes. -

News for the London Toy Fair
vmln8r replied to AndyC's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This is AWESOME news. Relevant bit: However, more importantly it comes with new motors and a new servo motor. The two axles were driven by separate motors which were squarer than those we've seen before, although it was difficult to see their geometry exactly. The servo motor would have been used for the steering and it, too, was a different shape to current PF motors. -

Legoman & Brickthing: Wow! That's great news. I would really like NZ to have it's own, official LUG, and I this looks like a big step in the right direction. Hmm. It looks like only two have sold on TM in the past three years. I recommend Bricklink.

Powering rubber tracks
vmln8r replied to vmln8r's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
allanp: No, I haven't tried those ones, but have heard they don't work too well. I'll order the x939's anyway, but was curious if anyone had used them before. The first picture isn't mine (click on it). -

Rage
vmln8r replied to Zerobricks's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That's a superb driveshaft. I'll have to build this, I imagine it's super smooth. The use of hockey springs for the front suspension is another great idea. -
A technical exercise

This doesn't use rare parts, and has instructions: This is mine: Compact 4WD: If you wanted, this would fit a 3L differential:
