  1. Reading your comment, it makes it really hard for me to wait until Christmas to build this thing. I had them shipped to my parents's house so my son won't see them. I might have to go over there by myself sometime just to build this set. Looking at the alternate builds, I have to say, the two man spaceship (I forget what the original was) looks even better than the main model. Now that the time has come, I can't decide if I'm more excited about this set or the castle. I've waited my entire life for these things. I've always wanted a castle and some brand new classic space sets. It feels so good that it's finally happening.
  2. I've got to say, when I was looking at the comparison between the new and old Lion Knights shields, I realized I really don't like the new one for one reason. In the old one, the red mark clearly represents the lion's tongue. In the new one, it looks like he's breathing fire. I cannot unsee that now, and it's going to bother me forever.
  3. This is amazing! I love it. It's the perfect balance of detail and classic Lego aesthetic. When I was reading the title though, I was thinking it would be hilarious if someone created a MOC they call the "Unguarded Inn."
  4. I'm really excited to get so many VIP points. Except for a few small things, I haven't really bought new sets since the 2015 pirates wave. I've been wanting those classic space and Octan hats for quite a while. Now they're within reach! This is by far the largest set I've ever bought. Until now, the largest set I've ever owned was 8880, which I bought used off Craigslist a few years ago. This set has more than three times as many parts. That set took me forever to build, but I was also building from an unsorted pile with low resolution instructions I could barely make out. I wonder how this set will compare time wise.
  5. Unless you know something I don't know, the Forest Hideout is gone. It went live on August 1st at midnight and it sold out within 8.5 hours.
  6. The set went live at 11:50pm in the US. I got mine ordered! The limit is just one right now.
  7. I'm looking through the instructions right now, and I just saw there's a piece that's a 1x1x(2/3) brick. Is this the first time that piece has appeared? They have a note about it on step 25. Edit: I'm not sure what the point of that piece is. Is there an advantage over using two 1x1 plates?
  8. That's really a brilliant thought. Lego has done a great job at bringing in new adult customers with all these licensed products, but they've done very little in the way of attracting people who just loved Lego as a kid. There are probably a lot of people who aren't interested in licensed themes who would be excited to see the return of their favorite childhood themes if there were inexpensive sets in stores. How many new AFOLs will 40567 and 10305 produce? Pretty much none; the only way you're going to even be aware of its existence is if you're already in the Lego store or looking at Lego websites.
  9. Honestly, that's a long time to wait just to enter the site, especially at midnight. I think they actually opened it up one minute earlier. So tomorrow night, I'm definitely going to be refreshing every minute at least ten minutes before midnight.
  10. And I bought three of the Ford Mustangs because I knew the price was going up. They're not even in stock now, and the price jumped from $150 to $170 last night. I'm going to list mine at $160 on Craigslist so I can walk away with free GWPs. I'm a little nervous about it because it's likely that no one looking on Craigslist will be willing to pay retail price. But that's how I convinced my wife to let me spend that much money.
  11. How long was "forever?" I actually loaded the page at 11:59pm, and I was sent into the queue even before midnight. I had to wait about five minutes. I wasn't afraid of missing out on this set since it was given a wide release, but if this had been the castle, I would have had a panic attack watching that queue screen for five minutes. Seeing the GWP sell out so quickly, I'm definitely not taking any chances. Tomorrow night, I'm going to keep reloading the page for 10305 until it says it's available, then I'll submit my order immediately. I'm afraid that set might be sold out for months.
  12. I really appreciate the fact this set was free with a purchase, but I wonder, what would be the harm in actually selling the set in addition to giving them away with purchases? When there's a really special set like this, many people would like to have multiple copies. Yes, it's a great deal to get it for free. But we would love to buy more, and lots of people will miss out when it sells out before the promotion was scheduled to end. Why not produce tons of them and give people the option to pay for them? If they're concerned about people buying less because they'll just buy the GWP outright, they could tell people up front that the set won't be available for purchase for a certain period of time. If you want it now, you have to do the GWP. Otherwise, you'll have to wait a few months. I also question how many people actually buy extra sets solely because of the GWP. If this had been something else, say a Harry Potter GWP, it would not have affected my purchase decision whatsoever, but they'd still send me a set I don't care about. Maybe most of the people who received this GWP didn't even appreciate it. Of course, people who are merely "collectors" probably love GWPs because of the exclusivity of it. Personally, I don't want anything to be limited. I wish every product was produced in quantities that make it a fair price for everyone who wants it. If I had a button to make any minifigure on Bricklink available at a normal retail price, I'd push it in a heartbeat. I don't like living in a world where my favorite parts are highly limited and valuable, even if I already own enough of them.
  13. There was an Adventures in Odyssey episode where a guy was taking the bible literally and he kept reading conflicting stuff. He read this verse, then flipped over to Joel 3:10 which says the exact opposite. I always thought that was hilarious because it's such a random thing to say. I'm glad you included that in your post because now it makes sense. I never looked into it.
  14. I'm in the US. I ordered two of the Galaxy Explorers at midnight, and it showed the GWP in my cart; no issues with me having gotten it in June. I'm curious to see whether I'll be able to get another GWP with the castle, or whether they give me the GWP with tonight's order, for that matter.
  15. I ordered mine at midnight to get the GWP. It was my first time experiencing the queue. I waited about five minutes. It didn't bother me since this set is in stores and I don't have to worry about it selling out. But I will probably feel nervous when the time comes to order the castle. I bought two of the Galaxy Explorers. But I won't be building mine until Christmas when my son gets his. It's going to be a long 4+ months. I really hope the minifigures will be available via Pick a Brick.
  16. The way I understand it in the interview, they're allowed to order new raised baseplates, but they chose not to. For the Galaxy Explorer, they they thought it would be too much gray because the ship is larger than the original. It wouldn't fit on the smaller baseplates, and they also chose to skip the moon base because the original was underwhelming and wouldn't scale well like the ship did unless they completely redesigned it. For the castle, it sounds like they didn't want to limit the MOCs based on this set. If they had used a raised baseplate, it would make it much harder for people to extend the set. I think these are fair reasons not to use them in these particular sets. But I could definitely see them being used again for smaller scale sets. This is really interesting to me because I had assumed the tooling doesn't even exist anymore, or they had a hard rule against using them. Perhaps it's always been the designers themselves who have chosen not to give us more baseplates. I think a lot of it has also been this silly perception people have on value by parts per price. Everyone is obsessed with that 10¢ per piece standard, which I think has been a very unfortunate limitation for designers. I would much rather see more large elements like baseplates than be stuck with that 10¢ per piece dogma. I think printed baseplates would be more useful though. One of my favorite parts has always been the baseplate from Bandit's Secret Hideout. I've used a lot of them in my displays, but my western towns have always been restricted to winding roads. I would love to have a straight road that matches that one. If we ever see Wild West return, that's the #1 piece I would like to see produced. (A raised baseplate canyon would be so cool though!)
  17. I'm surprised so many people like the new shoulder armor. I really don't like it, and it's one of a few things that really turns me off from the blacksmith shop. It doesn't look like Lego to me. It's more like something you'd see from one of those 3rd party dealers, which also don't look like real Lego parts. My first set was Black Monarch's Ghost, so that knight is just about ideal Lego to me. I like the pointed visors and breastplates. I always thought it was funny he has armor under his armor. I never understood that. I do like the grilled helmets a lot in black. I've never had one. That's almost tied with comical for me, but for different reasons. I'm not a fan of those brimmed helmets, but the conical and bullet helmets are both great and hard to choose between. I never had any of the bullet helmets until I ordered 30 of them several weeks ago. You can't have black falcons without them! For shields, it's a toss up between the original ones and the longer style used in Dragon Knights. I hope they bring back the long ones. I like both. I think the long Dragon Knights shield is my favorite shield of all time. It's a masterpiece. I never had a lot of castle sets as a kid, but the soldier and shield from 1712 Crossbow Cart were highlights of my collection. I was never a fan of the great helm until I saw it in black for 10305. It looks really good in that color. I think my real problem is that I just don't metallic colors. Maybe if I saw the brimmed helmet in black, I'd like it too.
  18. Is everyone going to gloss over the section on raised baseplates? They said in the interview that raised baseplates are still an option for designers, and they considered them for both of these sets! I would love to see them return for a smaller set in the near future, especially the moon crater baseplates.
  19. I'm curious about how they chose the parts for this. What are the bricks and plates for? Did they actually have a particular build in mind when they chose the parts?
  20. Does anyone have an inventory for this set?
  21. I think the idea is that the Maniac is playing with his toys, and he's imagining that he's part of the action. They're not high quality reading material. It sort of reminds me of this new book. He often builds something new to rescue people.
  22. I'm talking about these comics:
  23. We need to get a hashtag started. #NotMyMajisto
  24. You know, people might think I'm crazy, but I actually think the Duplo castles 10569 and 10577 are some of the best castle sets Lego has released since the early '90s. I bought them for my son a few years ago. The horses and minifigures look great, and we've built all kinds of medieval stuff with those parts. It's been a lot of fun. It's a different target audience, but for the age group, they're both fantastic sets. I actually like them better than all of the Lego System castles that have been released in the past ~20 years. I'd love to see them release some more Duplo sets like that. I've also always thought it would be cool if they made Duplo classic space sets.
  25. How do you guys think these stories compare to the old Mania Magazine comics? Those weren't super sophisticated either, and they amounted mainly to an advertisement. But I enjoyed them when I was a kid.
