Lego Ninjago 2016
SpiderSpaceman replied to LegendsOfNinjago's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes

Discussion on it never took off around here. I'd happily participate in one, but like Aanchir, I don't have a capable set up right now to run around in the game and make stuff. I will in a few months though.

There's a really quite subtle and sort of profound moment in Apocalypse, that probably a lot of people didn't catch, where I found that really thoughtful and moving, and thought it really elevated the film beyond a standard comic book movie. The ancient opening of the film is great. And after that, I always forget and am reminded to my great delight that X-Men is the final holdout for 1990s comic book movie CG fest opening credits. And another thing that thrilled me was I found it solid for what it is, even with the dumb bits.

You missed "A beyond?" That is fun to have regular house stuff in an incredibly harsh environment evil lair.

Maaaaan, I'd bet my holey-est socks on that!

Okay who's made a freaky scooby doo headed baby already? Edit: wooooow I had to go all of 1 page backwards for that? Disregard.

Boooooo Clearly it would be better to play as Bugs Bunny, the Road Runner, Wile E. Coyote, Marvin the Martian and the Tasmanian Devil. Heck yeah!

Maybe just because he's getting too close to being skull grinder? Nothing's gonna beat regular umarak, but I think this autumn umarak isn't half bad, good suggestion. In way of improvement, maybe the thorns need to change to something more complimentary to the orange?

Huh, a swap of 7 ccbs elements and 12 studs in addition to the mask? Hadn't thought about that. I don't photoshop but I see the appeal of a quick pre-viz of that.

This reviewer's lack of mechanical comprehension, and eager admission of it, and apparent ignorance of the existence of the word "uppercut" astounds me. "Oh boy this simple exposed linkage sure is the most ponderous thing... I expected it to go this way, but then it went that way! That surprised me for hours, oh my, lemme tell you. Oh I thought you punched him in the front of the mouth, but you gotta give him a, oh, like hook him behind the jaw. Yeah, a hooked weapon under the jaw." Also the bleached out picture... This is why I watch lego reviews at 2X speed and muted. Enough disparagement though (and I hope this isn't someone here), on the this year's sets topic: Who here pays attention to the orientation of the butt gears? I put together 3 toa and umarak before I realized on toa #4 "oh wait, I was putting these on uncaringly, hey instructions do a perfect X while facing forward"

So after only having Ikir and Umarak all year I got Tahu yesterday. Then I got Gali and Akida today. I think I'm snowballing. CCBS kits take up a ton of space too. My "Master" Toa line up, and the glorious Hunter and Mask Maker (with the mask of creation, by God) are on a shelf, but My protectors are in a unsorted tub - even though they certainly merit a spot to pose in. My skeleton army and spiders/gold masks/bear traps are a lovely bouquet sprouting from my "4625 Pink Brick Box" The Lord of Skull Spiders is disassembled like he ought to be. And the United Toa are... Protecting Helms Deep.

Ohhhhhhh... now the deformation altogether makes more sense to me. I thought the horns were the antlers mutated, but I guess they just broke off. The gold makes a lot more sense as the gold of the mask and the shape of the mask growing out of control. I think the harsh black technic angles broke it up too much for me to see the intent of the design.

Those are cool Nuva symbol strips on Ekimu's chestplate, and I love the build of his war hammer. I like the Umarak box's comic strip a lot: transformation, dripping slime, destruction, face-off. Super cool graphic. And that is a gruesome good look at the face: I like that so much elegant form and detail remains in the mask behind the cracks and disfiguration. I never completely realized Lava Beast's function was one crystal fixed facing back, one lashes out with the turn of a gear. Not so entirely unappealing in motion as it looked from a static pose, still not reaaally up to snuff. I prefer my skull army broken down to individuals rather than combined, and I'm sure the same will hold for these... But I like the overkillingly monstrous Mardi Gras edition of U the D well enough. (must be murdering a bunch of parts in the legs though) I wish next year was to have some surprises in the repetitive lineup format, away from 6 repeated heroes, 6 face sharing allies, tiny enemy critters, and partially face sharing, mono-scale enemies. Figures christened "Beasts" oughtta be much more than gawky bipeds at eye level with the heroes.

DC Superheroes 2016 - Rumors and Discussion
SpiderSpaceman replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
Yes, the green eyes indicate "Lazarus Fever" - turning temporarily stronger and violently insane as a side effect of using a Lazarus Pit, the pools Ra's uses to reverse the damage when he grows old or is injured. Must have. Is the batman not just blue and grey with no shirt and a scimitar? I guess that's what I have a second catcyle chase and a prince dastan for.- 8,446 replies

You mean the alternate paint jobs? Like how the Ninjago vehicles all had the same snake, nindroid, snake cult patterns? I do like the ones that make the vehicle a match for another character. Emmet -> Wildstyle, Batman -> Joker, Joker -> Harley. And the DC models each probably had a lackluster one that could be spared... And Batman is a vehicle hog, with something for every occasion... Yes! I like your idea. Have my stamp of approvalness.

I really wish there was just a "new piece spotting and plotting" topic where we could say "I spotted this glorious new part, and here are cool ways I'm thinking about using it" - in the vein of NewElementary's content. Because that can be a highlight of high quality set pictures releasing, for me. If we're talking about 70594, there is a one by one rounded end bar element attaching the pagoda points, and there's that dangly chain piece you mentioned (I didn't realize it was a pendant, at first I thought I was looking at a studs out short chain, that made me think updated nunchucks were happening), And I'm not sure what's under the tiny cannon , looks like another 1x1 modified, but square, with either the mini ball-and-cup ball, or a somewhat spherical decoration, EDIT: in the box picture, clearly the common 2 sided closed ring, modified 1x1 and there's a second size of dragon wing i hadn't spotted until 41178... 70589: is this piece back? I mean, I have to assume I'm misinterpreting that.. Anybody know what we're actually looking at there? -
Thin Hairline Crack on my Thin Hairline Piece
SpiderSpaceman replied to Actor Builder's topic in General LEGO Discussion
This is why I shudder at MOCs with those dead trees made out of clips clipped to clips. I've had a lot of clips that had some load on them stressing them into misalignment so they've cracked and loosened. A couple Mixel fingers, Viking axes, Groot fingers. I've also had parts cracking from just the stress of being in an assembled state though. Orange 1x2 bricks, in the feet of one of the mixels, most of the cheese parts in everything, some other stuff, but I've never had a mini wig do it as in the original post. Mostly my concern with my collection is gold print disappearing in my environment.- 17 replies

Where's your groot at?
-
It oughtta be SELECT, going by ps3.
-
Yeah a skill tree branches and branches out. You pick some quality or ability of your character to unlock or enhance when you have enough points, and then that selection is a prerequisite for choices further to the tip. I know what you were talking about with the regenerations though, being the only part of any dimensions character that requires a string of unlocks, so in a way, not so off. But a skill tree it really isn't, either.

DC Superheroes 2016 - Rumors and Discussion
SpiderSpaceman replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
I watched the cosmic clash movie even though I know I oughtta whisk away the figures and smash the dvd's to pieces - I was actually really into 2 aspects of it: The hybridized Batmobile/Cosmic-Treadmill Flash-powered time machine is actually a great model and a great concept for a corny DC story. Also, the 2D graphic design is as good as the sets, like the prints on the figures that don't really exist - top notch. Which thinking back, they've had some aesthetically excellent designs once they got past the really bad pre-physical figure Cyborg. The Alfred was perfect, where the videogame from the same era just unlovingly reused the lego batman 2006 version. The Grodd was better than the set version, as I recall. Guy Gardner was perfect, and Desaad. (Were the parademons in it or just unplayable characters in the tie-in DLC?) Things that just make you bummed that they're not in your drawer or on your shelf or blasting through your cityscape. I mean the minifigure head brainiac ship is kinda unforgivable and the pirates and cavewomen/proto-amazons were nothing special, but on things that mattered they pulled it off. Designs worth screencapping before i chuck the movies in a blender Oh wait and my favorite immortal caveman world conqueror is in there, I forgot! I didn't understand the lanky freakish woody-ness, but otherwise solid enough. Guess I'm gonna put in an order for my nightwing and my pirate batman on amazon. Actually does Lego.com sell the DK books and do they go toward order total on the freebies? is '66 freeze still in stock? I missed out on martian manhunter to hordes of people who were saying "I've never heard of this guy, he's not that cool, but hey, he's free. I got 6 from the 6 orders I did..." Then I bought it off bricklink, but still.- 8,446 replies

Sad that there's not a red lantern physical figure. I was really hoping the next DC pack would be Hawkgirl, too (with proper wings (not Pharaoh's quest, not plastic sheet, and not chima), helmet/hair and the new mace from collectible minifigs). Buuuut I'll take what they're serving.
