Big medieval landscape: BIG UPDATE on page 26
maydayartist replied to maydayartist's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
That´s a really good kick a** to continue my work I will try to up the third section later this evening, it´s half done. Here are two new pictures for techniques I use. The first isn´t special, but I try to use not important parts to push the ground and give it stability, like technic and rod bricks. The other one is build with one of my favourite parts, the log brick. My two pirateships are made with them to give it a real looking plank aspect. They are brilliant to build a round looking rod for tree trunks for example whitout using any one hinge. It´s a pity that there are only available in a huge amount in brown and gray (in all levels) and tan and only in 1 x 2 and 1 x 4. -
Big medieval landscape: BIG UPDATE on page 26

Thank you. All my Lego is bought on ebay. I love searching offers of mixed kilogram with special sets in it, based only on specific parts seen on the pictures. I know that green, brown and gray parts are highly recommended for this build so I bought the set 4998 two times today to increase my amount of usefull parts. One of them was complete and I could get it for 20€ and the other one not but must of the parts exist and without any number and/or name of the original set I was able to get it for 8€. For it´s fun. The entire build would be very expensive based on the fact that gray, tan, brown and even green are more expensive than colours like blue, yellow, red and so on, Imho. The last week was very busy to continue. My girlfriend was here. So I take only a few boxes of brown and plant parts and try to make trees. One of them is shown on the next picture and to compare a minifig stands next to him. I´m carpenter and I love trees and the original trees from TLG could not satisfy my idea of a nice tree. Not today and not as child. One of the trees. Maybe I will enlarge the amount of leaves after all trees are done and I can see how many parts are left for it. Next update possible on tuesday evening -

Ok the pre ground build on chapter two is finished. You could guess what will be surrounding the sandplace The river turn into little rapid water with rocks in it. -
Oh sole mio!! Looks like a venetian gondolier, maybe a little bit darker That look absolutely nice. I like the swamp design with all the plant and the hidden house. Now you should make pictures with dark background and less lightning to catsh the atmosphere!!

Big medieval landscape: BIG UPDATE on page 26

The difference between them was the steps of the roof on both ends and the colour of the tiles. The black tiles were only used to save the amount of brown 1 x 8. But you are right, they look burned. The steps on the end are the main difference. On the first there is a big one and on the second they are more smooth. -

This would be another nice idea but the village and the castle are stand alone structures. A wall around them will destroy the free landscape view. Ok after a short week with very short evenings to build the next step was finishing the ground and the way over the river, a bridge. The bridge should be build with a roof and there are at least two versions. What would you say? I like the second one. 1. version 2. version -

First of all I have to say thank you to all the hopefull wishes and the great replies. Pushed with all these and with my workfree day I finished the gross terrain build. That would be a much more Wow effect, I know. But for myself I´m very excited to show you this and I can´t wait for the end Yep you´re right about that but the castle what comes up to my mind should be a new version of my "very old castle" out of my brickshelf folder. It was a hilltop design on the big grey baseplate, so it should find a place on one chapter. You are at the right way to what I planed for details on that. There will be more nice details but not shown in this early stadium Ok now it is time for a few more pictures. One detail to show what could be taken to build the street. The ugly high bricks will fit in no other structure so it is perfect to form the path. An eagle eye view. And the view to see the growing landscape. -
wow, the original one is a really nice castle after all the knight kingdoms crap ^^ But your version fill the empty spaces of this structure. For example, now the guards could reach all positions for defense ;) A little bit confuse to me is the beginning of the stairs outside the castle Could you add a picture with a normal amount of guards on the battlement? All the details are covered with silver helmets

Hi everyone, I stop buying at ebay and now after sort, clean and bleach all of my Lego I decided to build a new big project similar to my old castle/village (not public on EB) or the island (public in EB). But the new one should need all of the "interesting" colours/parts. First of all the plate should have a good size. I think 1,8 m x 1,2 m is a good size. More would be to big for my Lego room The baseplates (btw all of mine) show the way of the river in broad terms. To handle the parts and reach every place for details the plate is devided in six chapters. I know that this would be a long build, so I decided to update the progress when it is time to show new steps. I can´t wait to present the ready build, it could take toooo long The whole build >>should<< contain a little village, a little forest and a castle. Hm, maybe the baseplate could be bigger?! We will see. The first step is called: Chapter One; and start with a river, sand and gras, but it´s not complete so please be patient WIP I will try to update right in time!

Announcing the Winners of the Harry Potter Winter Break Contest
maydayartist replied to Hinckley's topic in LEGO Licensed
Hay congratulations to the winners! I missed the end of the voting and the last days of news in here because of a flu-like infection. I want also to say a big thanks to Hinckley for set up these genious contests for the community. For myself it was a big joy to build an entry with this limitations. Thank you for that -
Should Lego bring old factions back?
maydayartist replied to Artifex's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
That is all one piece For me, the new factions fit very well. This is the first time that the gambeson look like a real one on a historic background. The chains on the dragon knights seems a little bit too much but who cares -
This is really spectacular. A little bit inconsistent to me is the half and half design of the castle. The half in front looks more like a keep for knights against siege and the high behind them like a typical castle as home of the aristocracy. Anyway, the design is perfect. The dark green on the forrest ground works perfect to give it a dark atmosphere. My dream is to build a castle in a similar way on a higher rock, but your work is unreachable

Which castle is the best in your opinion?
maydayartist replied to Juppy's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
6074 - for big castle MOCs the corner panel is much more interesting than the flat window panel and 12 in one castle is top The fact that grey is more comfortable than black is obvious to me. And final the black double convex 75° slope + top ... perfect. -
Oh oh I think you have overdrawn the 1000 piece limit This is a sweet little hut. The problems at the end is well known. On saturday morning I´ve started my photo collection and after half of them my white backplate fall down and crashed the whole buiding in .... 1000 pieces
-
Hey this was a missing house/shop, isn´t it? Fine build! The usage of the golden flexible bar as a handrail looks very good and fits perfect in the brick limit Same for the ninja panel behind the books
-
Yes and here it is. A born of a new pirate scene The start looks fantastic. The unfinished second house reminds me a little bit on one of your four buildings out of the old harbour scene with the store and the chapel (the building between them) I forget the name of it. I´m looking forward to see a huge creation that will surpass my expectations.

Oh, ok that´s good to know. I have a double picture collage and will change it now. That was a good question, Cara. I was thinking about that on splitting the image, but after that I thought that only the size matters.

Sorry mfor that. The shortcut stands for "Big ugly Rock Piece" and "Little ugly rock piece" It is very helpful to build a mountain or anything like that but you have to improve their design with normal bricks, so they don´t look all the same.
