Old school technic bricks
Burf2000 replied to Darth Dino's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I believe the best result is from using both. My 5 foot 8 robot would not of works from Studless beams (I believe), I used studded and plate to make very strong parts and held them together with studless beams -
Power puller wheels!

They are brilliant wheels but far too expensive, reminds me of the Hailfire wheels -

Burf2000 replied to timslegos's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Very useful post, I need to get some of the new ones as the old ones are crap, I have used them on George v2 and had to put 3 on each arm! -

Future of Mindstorms
Burf2000 replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I will agree that the motors are huge and a poor shape, and the connectors are very limiting, bring back RCX's -
I am glad you replied as I actually forgot that I have not finished the hands/ arms. I am tempted to put a mini motor in each so they can rotate at the wrist. Once 99% of the robot has been finished and programmed, I think I might take some of your advice and rebuild the arms as they are a little pants. I only have 4 weeks to finish it (sounds like a lot of time but I work long hours and have a newborn baby :)) I absolutely love pneumatics and my last years giant robot (its on the forum) had a lot of it. I love building pneumatics engines!

This looks wicked however its far from high speed lol I love the design however I would of used the XL motors for the drive, if you had done direct drive from the motor I believe it would be quite a bit faster (my tank was). Also how many batteries is this running off as I found for max power for a motor, you don't want more than 2 xl's running off a single battery (so probably 4 mediums)

Newbie, Hi everyone

Welcome! I have never tried to design a technic model on a computer. That must be hard work! Glad to see new blood in the technic area! -
Future of Mindstorms
Burf2000 replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
How on earth can it be dead, they use it in thousands of schools and for education. The set is cheaper than other USC sets Long live Mindstorms -
Hello there, this weekend I actually got some building time in. Here is George v2, I never actually finished building v1. Last years disaster of a robot was named Bob (can be found on here). This robot does not have any similarities to the last one and hopefully also does not suffer from the same faults. So far its naked (not plated) and I might not even end up plating it due to the weight. Its controlled via a wireless PS2 controller and can move its arms , claws, head, eyes etc). It still needs some work but I thought I would see what people thought of it. Features 1 NXT that has a PS2 Mindsensor wireless connector, hiTechnic infrared sensor and a ultra sonic sensor. 2 9v lights for mouth 1 9v old style motor which rotates eyes 6 medium PF motors which drive head (up down, left right), turns body, pneumatic switch for claws, and elbow joints for arms. 6 XL motors. 4 used to move the robot about, 1 on each arm for shoulder joint. 2 small actuators for neck 4 large actuators for shoulders The robot is actually quite stable. I will do a a few videos when it is finished :) Flickr album

Spare parts!
Burf2000 replied to davidmull's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I was thinking of selling some however we just had a baby and so thats a good reason to get more. I had a bit of a lego habit, it was around 300-500 a month on bulk ebay deals. How scary is this, when my wife and I moved, 2/3's of our stuff was Lego! He dad was totally blown away. My wife puts up with the habit (just about) -
Spare parts!
Burf2000 replied to davidmull's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I do that to, to the point where I end up with bags and I mean bags full of lego I have no use for, then usually lose it somewhere in the house and so buy some more. I trying to kick the habit, I have more Lego that anyone probably needs (my garage is storage place 2, with no car in it) -

I got a bit crazy with them, I think I have 1 box per technic beam colour, and main plate colour, plus ones to hold every main technic part. I don't have a lego room but a lego technic room! -
