The "one thing" Fallenangel? He, he. Someday I'll start from scratch... for now, I'll keep changing a piece here, a piece there.
-
Even though I don't have anything to add at this point, I am enjoying following the discussion. One thing I've thought about is making the survival equipment to store in the cargo hold. I'm just tinkering with mine now, and it the stock cargo hold won't hold much. I might think about modding the cargo hold after you're finished fallenangel and I get a better look at your final design.

Everyone should just lay off the bedspread. You can't expect Lego to put a new astromech, tactical droid AND bedspread in KimT's set!
-
See, the way that it works is that now that CorneliusMurdock has won, we all have to keep buying sets for the next five years so that they can afford to send Cornelius another free set.... Win!
-
Thanks for the review, KimT. I think the JSF looks a little better that what I originally thought it would. Boy I hate that flag though. The astromech and the tactical droid are what I like best, and I keep going back and forth on this one, should I buy, shouldn't I? You've got me buying... for now.

How open are you about your Lego passion?
Churchill replied to Fugazi's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Buckshot, I like your approach! I admit that I've said yes to gift receipts before... I don't hide it, but I don't advertise it. If anything, my wife advertises it for me, whether I want her to or not. Oh, and the lego all over the house gives me away to friends and family! -
Great review, thanks! I put this together last week, after buying the set for Luminara only. I ended up enjoying the build, and think that the cannon actually is pretty neat. With the barrel slightly elevated, it looks great sitting on the kitchen counter all by itself.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 3 poll
Churchill replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I voted no on the third question. I'm sure this will invite some criticism, but I wanted to offer another perspective. Some of these minifigures are among the best I've ever seen. And if Lego hadn't issued these, we'd never see them. However, I'm really bothered by the randomness of it all. I've seen few people say they like not knowing what they'll get. Why would Lego do that, then? To get you to buy more. And more. And more. And just when you've got your Spartan army, now your spending your hard earned money to build your Elf army. I believe that if you could buy individual minifigures, Lego would make a mint on these. Some would argue that if these are aimed at kids, then the randomness is more exciting for them. If that was true, why do you have to open 12 sumos before you get one elf? Now some would say that this new variety inspires creativity, and I'm not sure I can disagree with that. But the whole secret identity behind these things really makes me think the whole goal is not to inspire us but to make us buy more and more. All that being said, I know that in future series, there will be some that I really like, and will want to get. After buying alot of series three, I think I'll be more willing to pay more (unfortunately) on bricklink to get just what I want. But I have to wonder if we're just being lured by a carrot on a stick... Just my thoughts... -
Great review! Thanks. The ARF trooper helmet detail is amazing. I think just that helmet makes him my favorite of the four, even thought the body printing on the others is really good.

I didn't realize that was photoshopped until you showed the original. It's my favorite. These are some of the best snow pics I've seen.

Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here
Churchill replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Kiel I don't think I have any new arguments to bring to the table, but if it will help I'll cast my vote for just getting the minifigs. I've struggled with this alot too, since I don't want alot of the sets- I want the astromech in Mace's JSF, but not the whole set... and I just got a Mace off of Bricklink. I find that I'm not patient, and don't like to wait for the prices of the individual figs to fall once more get into the market. The little kid in me wants them NOW! I've thought about getting the sets and selling everything but the figs, but can't bring myself to do it. Probably, I'm alot more like you and Fallenangel on this- I'd rather have a great ship any day, with less emphasis on the figs. It just seems like right now that's Lego's strength, the figs. Maybe on my wish list of solutions would be for them make the figs available, and a selection of parts beyond the basics (like windscreens, etc). Like a way to buy a selection of plates in good colors in bulk (not piece by piece like pick a brick). How about a set that's a bucket of "Star Wars"-ish plates and pieces, with an included jedi or pilot? Give us the "building blocks" and let us use our imaginations. I still want that great looking minifig it the ship, but maybe I can just build it myself.... -
Are you still going with the 1x2 plates for the flashback suppressors? I tried them out, and I just don't like the way it looks. I changed back to the dishes, but changed the cones to the shaft used in flick fire missles (sorry I still haven't conquered piece identification by name, or linking). Just getting rid of the cones makes a huge difference.

CW Jedi Bob, that'd be great, he, he he. Big bug eyes... wavy hair.... super hero powers...
-
Maybe it's time for Jedi Bob to get a makeover....
-
I agree with Kieldaman. I couldn't make out the minifigs either. Maybe I need new glasses, or maybe I'm getting too old. Looks like I'm getting the frigate, sith infiltrator and the falcon. Oh, who am I kidding I'm getting them all.
-
Agreed. I guess my personal preference is with smaller ships to make them as minifig accessible as possible, and if the ship is too big for that- I'd rather see it as a midi scale. If it can be done as a UCS, great. All of the "smaller" ships we have suit me fine- even though I can't fit more than 2 in the Jedi Shuttle, I really like it. I don't care that I can't fit a whole astromech in the v-wing. Playability with those sets if fine for me (like I actually play with them...ummmm....) And I love my midi falcon and star destroyer. It's just an uncomfortable mix for me when they take a good sized set of a large ship (like the Venator, or Tantive) and you lift the top off to have one or two minifig scale rooms. Like Leia's office.
-
Yeah, I guess that did sound kind of stupid. I just prefer a ship I can realisticaly fit the minifigs in, like the shuttles, vs. something like the venator, where the minifigs and scenes were way out of scale with the exterior. That's what I don't like. Mea Culpa!
-
I don't know, I kind of like the look of this blurry set. The old one was just way too.... red for me. Can't wait to see better pics. I hope it's not a "playset" though like the Venator or Tantive.

[Review] 8099 Midi-scale Imperial Star Destroyer
Churchill replied to Brickdoctor's topic in LEGO Star Wars
This is a great review. Thanks so much. I actually really like this set, and enjoyed the build. It's a sturdy model, that's for sure (maybe with the exceptions of the engine piece). -
FallenAngel327, this is indeed great timing. Quite a "vergence" in the force! I was just going to ask you if there were other pictures of the x-wing you've done. I'm not ready to tackle an x-wing as a full blown MOC, but I was thinking about starting to tinker with one of my stock x-wings. The one I consider Wedge's. I figure he deserves an upgrade. Anyway, I'm going to go through this thread with a fine toothed comb later- I have to go to work soon. Thanks for the Q, too. I just need to get the time to take a pic of one and get it uploaded for my avatar. Here's a simple quote for the pic with the Q7 and the ARC 170 Q7 to clones: "Now you known how I feel." Thanks fallenangel327! PS: What is your first language?

Review: 7307 Flying Mummy Attack
Churchill replied to Masked Builder's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Great review! I could do without the obelisk, but I think this is a great set in terms of the size/simplicity/playability. If anyone has done or does do a simply mod to put two figs in the cockpit, can you share it? I've been thinking about it, but haven't quite figured it out yet. -
Things that changed Lego forever
Churchill replied to David Thomsen's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Well put, Fred67. I wasn't, and am still not, sure what the right answer is, but the new stuff does allow for alot more creativity. I guess by specific I meant, for example, how many different Han Solos do we need? Ep 3, Hoth, Cloud City, carbonite, Hoth, etc, etc. -

All of this makes me wonder- the increased detail, specific parts, etc; I wonder if we're losing a bit of the imagination that makes Lego so great. Licensing has alot to do with this, I know. Are innovations always a good thing? I'm not saying they aren't- I love all of the incredible new sets and minifigs. But sometimes I think it's taking less and less imagination to play with/build with Lego. -

I have to go with Peter on this- I'm going back to the early 70's. The minifigure, hands down. For that matter, just hands... it made it so much more playable just to have the figures. Arms, legs, printed faces! We didn't have printed faces.... I sound like an old man!
