Well as a steampunk afficionado i have to provide you with creative criticism. Now bear in mind this is all in light of honesty; there are some parts of this moc that i love. The engine and the wheels, especially how they fold up for instance. However there are other parts i dislike, mainly the lack of detail on the ship as a whole. For example the bow of the ship could be improved upon greatly with some very simple greebling and snot techniques. I would also say you werent greatly adventurous in your endeavor to build for this theme. As you yourself said dreamweb "It's all about putting realism aside and building the wackiest thing possible". Where are the clockwork gears? The pneumatic cannons? The propellers, the zoowats and doodats that are quintessential to this theme? What i mean is you lack a hook, something that sets you apart from the rest of the steampunkers. Steampunk mocing is nothing like the mocing of a space model, each Mocer has to have a truly original idea and represent that in their model; i can garuntee you that anyone who types steampunk into the search bar on brickshelf is doing so for this reason. Now to the pros, I noticed some interesting subtlties that i smiled at. The car stearing wheel being used on land while the vavle one is used in water was the most outstanding of these. I also noticed the tops of the rails on the stern are technic plates, i liked this cause it adds variety and i usually don't think about this sort of thing right away and often slap my forehead (not literally) while mocing and say oh crud i should have done that. Then i massacre part of the thing to add that little part. I'll tell you this though; i would never have this application for those pieces in my moc. If it was mine it would just be boring tiles all around. Finally the engine. This part is well done and I find it's a shame that it's in a rather bare moc. So even though i hate to be a Simon Cowell those are my true thoughts of this pontentially great moc. I hope you'll rework it because theres nothing wrong you've done so far, it just looks a little incomplete. and hey phes man i'm sorry about all that anger towards you over the issue of moving my post :-$ .

Well it's been a year since i promised it. You see at first i thought i would just make it just like the system theme but i decided i should brush up on my mocing skill's so i could add some heavy snot work, make it look more professional. after the two crimson skies planes i recently made and due to my lethargy have not yet taken photos of, i really think im up to the task. Especially with my birthday coming up, i'll be able to by another mass of bulk lego from BL. And when i said "you beat me to it" I never meant I wouldnt try to make a timetwisters moc, i just meant that since this is the first moc to have that unique feel, i cant really say i was the first to build in this style.

Best ship MOC I have ever seen I should say. Great mix of classic hull use and snot techniques to widen the hull. The stern castle is the best ive ever seen, obviously took quite a bit of time and effort and your technique of leaving those window pieces in the open position to create the two smaller windows is ingenious. Words cannot describe how much i envy your MOCing prowess.

As soon as i saw the crow mobile i fell in love with it. It reminds me so much of my favorite theme time twisters. I was going to be the first to make a timetwisters moc is what i thought but after seeing this id say you beat me to it :'-(. I also disagree with cabby's statement about dr.crow being up too high, it really adds to the surrealism of this wacky moc.

He Robs from the Rich and Gives to the Poor
john cleese replied to Athos's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
:-( uhh i thought you were oing to say Dannis Moore. Dannis Moore Dannis Moore Riding through the night Dannis moore Dannis moore with a bag of things he robs from the rich and gives to the poor Dannis Moore Dannis Moore Dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb anyway this is an interesting scale i dont beleive ive seen a model on this scale before. Its a nicely done moc, i can see alot of detail was put into it, its sort of blocky but theres a very "old school" feel to it as a result. Anyway nice moc -
Resurrecting The Pirates Theme - a more indepth discussion

I'm thinking that perhaps the angled wall of the cafe is either not attached at all or is attached by a single jumper plate, or if that doesnt work three jumper plates with two holding up a third to offset the studs in both directions, this could be hidden under the floor above the stairs and therefore would go unnoticed. I'm rather surprised that hingebricks don't work.

ive been giving this light house thing and have decided its really not that bad that the door on the lighthouse is a sticker, seeing as it is never oppened in the show and it looks like a backround object. I would also argue that if the door did open it would be pretty innacurate. I'm definately buying this one. Theres just something very attractive about it.

Oh you must have looked at the entire gallery and saw that pick of the balloons underside. I added it in there just because i thought it looked nice, and people might just suspect that i just put some horizontal clip plates on there when infact its something more presentational. I just wanted to show people that i put some thought even into the parts that you wouldn't notice at first glance. actually thats a good point about the plates. once upon a time the balloon was built out of plates of different colors to give it a patched look, it looked fine then, but now it looks as though the little fabric ballon is supposed to carry the weight of the basket and those extra plates. However even when it was built from plates i said to myself "Hey it might be neat if it was made out of fabric, maybe more zeppliny looking." I still like the fabric balloon more than its brick built counterpart but i think Mrts was right in saying its a matter of taste. I think i will use this knoledge to build a second Zepp, a larger one, and i shall dub her the celsius... maybe.

i feel the reason this has been getting few replies is due to the blurriness of the pictures. I'm sorry for this and if it would be appreciated, i could take clearer images, you see, i didnt really realize how blurry these were until i posted them on brickshelf and had a chance to look at other photos and compare them to mine. I would really appreciate replies though. :-)

it seems the spartans like to wear womens shoes ;-) (Look at the feet). A very nice quick-build none the less.

i dont think i could be bothered to send in for this nonsense

well i could not love them by saying i hate them, but i dont. I mean who can resist the delectable cheese bot in all of its glorious manifestations?

Well i have to say that this whole business about how lego should have used historically accurate vikings is rather silly. I bet if the vikings didn't have horns in their helmets the theme would have sold even worse and i'm guessing if the prototypes were historically accurate the damn focus group kids (snot nosed punks) would say "you should put some horns in their helmets so they look like real vikings." and of course the outcome would be horned vikings. I don't think the problem with the viking sets was the theme or what liberties TLC took in making their vikings, it was ,as it most always is, the set designs. The models lacked detail and weren't designed with the prowess of the early designers, they also lacked a proper viking look, especially the fort. I own the fort and its one of the most monotonous and tedious builds youll ever encounter. I think this is the problem with most sets these days, however I should say those KKII jelly bean knights were complete nonsense

[Brick Flick] We're Knights of the round table!
john cleese replied to Norrington's topic in Brick Flicks & Comics
i think we have an obvious fan amongst us ;-) . I love when king aurthur says "no. on second thought, let's not go to camelot, it's a silly place." You know sometimes i like to think of the pirate forum as this sort of camelot. They're always singing and dancing, drinking grog and arguing over what colonial british and french soldiers wore and making their little torso stickers. Lets not forget how often they revise their banners as well. *pirate* -
lego does what they want we should all realize that by now. although i would love a trans orange, trans neon green or trans blue I say when it comes to TLG just go with the flow because they arent going to listen to us or anybody else for that matter... no wait theyll listen to the damn focus group. But not us, ever.

although the concept was good Lego managed to screw it up, and personally i've grown tired of it aswell. I would rather have seen it designed by the early and mid 90's designers or even the verly early 00's designers. I'm looking forward to this new castle line for sure though *y* .

So my friend walked into a Best Buy, and bought a PS3
john cleese replied to 5150 Lego's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Who buys an overpriced $600 game system on impulse? He should have waited for the price to drop, thats the logical thing to do. Oh well i guess its not as ridiculous as paying $3000 for a Lego Star wars Lando minifig. ;-) -

Firstly i didnt know whether to put this moc in the moc forum or weather it would be alright to put it here. Anyway this would be my second moc you might recall the first to be a thrown togeather pirate vessel, pictures of which were taken with neither a steady hand nor good lighting. and with that i hope that you will like this second offering The Basket Case was a speedy one man air craft, designed after the Spy zepps used by The Coalition of wobbly custards or The CWC; one of many warring political parties (and one which was indeed very silly) existing and operating and scheming at this time. It was created single handedly by a rogue spy who was given the design by a foreman friend of his who also wished to disestablish The CWC. The spy, With his vessel, sought to make sense of what was clearly silliness. Going by the pen name Pennings Namings the 4rth and later by the alias Ali A.S., while he lived in the British Raj; he would daily record the transpirations below his balloon, usually hovering above battle fields. Frequently He would land it and sneak into rooms where politicians would be found shaking hands over coffee, making their very silly political alliances and what not. When he should finally have all the pieces in place he would distribute a document containing what he had recorded as casually as a paper boy would distribute the news, so that the most corrupt and silly parties wouldn't be trusted, the Coalition of wobbly Custards incidentally being one such party. He was a credit to his race, we remember him as a Laura Secord of sorts. about the model: Well i think its alot better than the Black Parrot Schooner. I used some SNOT thechniques in designing both the Balloon and the hull and did my best to add lots of detail with the tanks, the fins and the blue gem lamps. I also beleive that this is the first zepplin using a custom made fabric balloon, however i could be mistaken. all comments are welcome :-) Basket Case front 1 Basket Case front 2 balloon 1 balloon 2 balloon 3 basket 1 basket 2 basket case back

Congrats. I'm assuming you didnt buy a better light and sound set because it cost too much to justify buying it? I imagine if classic space and futuron space sets cost so much then classic space light and sound sets must cost quite a bit. And do i see a time twister set in the backround? :-) <<rhetorical question>>

Now my mom and dad have always had the philosophy that it's best to ask someone what they want for christmas so they arent dissapointed with their gift come christmas time. Naturally this year i asked for more lego, (what else is there? X-D ) Specifically, since the opportunity to buy the new exo-force or aqua-raiders never came up, because none of the darn stores in my area have them in yet; i asked for some cash, which i assured my parents would be spent completely on a bricklink order (just to make it more personal than just giving me cash for christmas.) Buying from Troys Surplus Lego and Brick Chick Free Ship, I followed a very methodical system of buying everything i wanted from each store and then taking items off the list until most of the money went to the free shipment store, while keeping the rare items i found in Troy's store. This Process was too time consuming and i eventually ran out of time to complete the order and had to shut the computer off, which emptied my shopping cart. I tried this two more times until both stores closed and now that christmas is over and done with, these stores have reoppened. Now my question is how should i go about buying my lego? Should i buy from Pick a Brick on Lego's website. What sellers would you reccomend, considering that i'm looking for stores with a large selection of pieces and high quantities of normal bricks, slopes and other "basic" elements. Money "is" an object and i'm working within a budget of $250 dollars, this is pretty much all my christmas money going towards this "worthy cause." ;-) please answer soon as i will have to wait until next weekend if i dont get any replies, you see during the week i dont have a computer with internet on it.

now i know i havent posted here in quite a while, and many of you have probably been wondering, wheres cleese? And saying things like i miss cleese and his wonderful sense of humor. Whiule the reason why i stopped posting here lately is because upon finding that there were (and still are) no new sets at the stores in my city, Some idiot is obviously to blame for this. Hence i generally lost interest as i recieved no new lego for christmas, so i went back to board game design and boardgame collecting, my other hobby. However i have been lurking around to see any leaked informatioon and i have to say that if i actually get the opportunity to buy any of these sets and the idiot who is to blame for my rather uneventful christmas comes to his senses then my interest will definately be regained. Looking at these sets i can see lego has recognized our issue with juniorization and decided to consider the AFOL community in designing these sets. The theme is well done and is remminescent of KK1 the 2000 edition, which in my opinion was actually a pretty good theme. I like the creativity that was put into this theme, Instead of similar fortification after fortification and edifice after edifice, the designers havent held back in putting there own creative twist on the theme, with a skull head gate, skeleton horses and even that barricade the skeleton is hiding behind in the catapult set is an example of some creative aspects to this line. I can only say ill be looking forward to these sets withn great anticipation, which i think we all are. Ps: I promise to do my best to try to endeavour to post here more often and complement builders on their MOC's more often.
