  1. Everyone has a good point; these could be stolen or they could be liquidated. I am not just going to buy them if he has them, I am going to ask for some kind of proof of purchase and make sure that all the bags are sealed and not parts are missing. Before I would meet with the guy, I would do my research on what exactly is inside the box of the set I would be purchasing. As all Craigslist ads, ALWAYS meet in a public place, you never know what people are going to do. To answer the question, Yes, this is very sketchy. I will keep you guys updated on what happens. Happy building
  2. I am only worried it is stolen, thats my only concern I think I am going to ask to see a receipt for the sets
  3. If any of the bags are open or bigger pieces (wheels, tires, etc) that are not bagged are not inside the box, I will not buy it.
  4. but if the bags inside are unopen, i dont see a problem. If the box is busted or the instructions are missing, i dont really care, ill just get it cheaper
  5. I would meet with the guy personally at like a walmart parking lot of something, no way I would trust having something shipped from this guy. I am just wondering how he gets these sets
  6. I found a guy on Craigslist that lives near me that is selling newer technic sets for about $50 lets than prices online. He says that he gets sets weekly to resell on Craigslist. The pictures show half beaten up boxes, some the bags are like half open (but still have the parts inside), others the box is perfect unopened. The only thing I am thinking is he works somewhere that gets returned sets and he some how takes them home and resells them. It seems a like sketchy to me, but I wanted to see what you guys thought.
  7. Hi guys, I have seen a ton of great MODs/MOCs on this forum for the time I have been a member. A lot of those creations, IMO, are better than the official Technic sets; whether the official set is just heavily modified or the creation is built from the ground up with no instructions at all. I am inspired by these builders like many other fellow members of this forum are too. That all being said, I want to know your opinion; What do you think of people trying to recreate the "professional grade" builds? Or even just amateur builds? Some of these creators do post instructions, but not everyone wants to buy the instructions to build their model. Other creators post a lot of pictures of their model with video of how the functions work. Just by going through these pictures/videos thoroughly, you can pretty much build whatever it is. (depending on the level of detail) Me personally, I like to go through MODs/MOCs and see how to build different mechanisms and try to implement them into my models. Some times, that does mean trying to copy that part of the model I am looking at.
  8. Any progress on making the rules?
  9. When I asked if we knew anything about H2 sets, I did not know that the tow truck and such were the H2 sets. I agree with bru7us that this year seems to be more geared toward kids and modelers (build it and put it on a shelf). I did not get any sets from last year because they just dis not interest me. Normally I buy all construction sets, but the pneumatics in the volvo and the bwe could was not what I was expecting. Reading through this page every year gets my hopes up for awesome sets and then we see the release photos and I loose interest. The only set I would consider buying for the parts would be the tow truck, but it comes in a color I rarely would use. So this year is another no new lego year for me.
  10. do we know anything about H2 sets yet?
  11. My 2 cents, good for Technivor if he is able to reverse engineer Ingmar's trucks. If he builds the truck exactly piece by piece, then takes it apart and changes it to make it his truck, I think that is awesome. Even if he "copys" the truck, so what? How many other people completely copy someone else's build (with or without instructions) because they love it so much. Technivor, your truck is looking great, I look forward to seeing the progress. Keep up the great work!!! :)
  12. New contest for 2017 coming soon?
  13. 22 : 10 9 : 6 12 : 4 4 : 3 37 : 2 34 : 1 I thought everyone did a great job. Voting for contests is always a difficult thing to do. I was very impressive with how compact some of the models were, they looked awesome. Overall, nice job.
  14. alan, close, but not quite. The counterweight idea would work for that, but not for my problem. Good guess tho, what i need would definitely work for that tho. Kris, Wow thanks for the helpful hints there, but ya thats not gonna help me at all. I have been tinkering with different ideas and cant figure it out. Since it will be easier for you guys to understand exactly what im looking for, ill tell you what i want to build. Im buildings an Exmark Lazer Z zero turn mower. The drive is obvious (like a skid steer, like i said), but the actuator idea would be for the handles, the farther out they are the faster the mower goes. Get it?? I just built a system that would work, ill post pictures later. The system involved; m motor (stepper) to the train remote (variable speed) to XL motor (drive), then servo to switch (turn on and off the actuator) then switch to L motor to actuator. The XL motor was connected to a receiver with train remote and the m motor and servo were connected to another receiver (i controlled that one) That is a lot of stuff and i would need double that for each wheel. AKA thats not gonna fit in the space. Im sorry, i know that is confusing, but i am unable to post pictures right now.
  15. Holy Moly guys, you might be WAY over thinking this. What im looking to do isnt the main function, it is simply a part of the overall MOC. Here is my plan (without giving away what im going to be building) 2 motors, separately driving a rear wheel, kinda like a skid steer. Each of these motors will need this linear actuator design to show variable speed (does not have to be exact, just somewhat close) The actuator will show, lets say 4, different speeds in the forward and reverse directions. SOO (by the way this should give away what im building) if the "machine" is moving forward and turning to the right, the left actuator would be farther extended than the right one (showing that the machine is turning to the right) Likewise, if the machine was turning to the left in reverse, the left actuator would be farther out than the right one, both in the reverse direction. If you want to take guesses at what im building, you may gladly guess Im hoping to build a moc up of the design set up of actuator/drive. If i get the time, it wont be small enough for the moc, but if will give u guys a better idea of what im looking to do.
  16. It has been awhile, but I have recently been working on drawing and designing a new project without the legos. I dont really have much time to work on any projects now, so im just designing it for now. I do not want to say what im building, because A) it hasnt been done before B) Its gonna be epic haha Here is my question; I want to have a drive train for each wheel separately with variable speed (using train remote) BUT i also want to show the speed change with an actuator of some sort. I know, that does not make sense now, but it will later. My original thought was; m motor for powering the axle, mini LA hooked up to the motor. of course this wont work because the LA with just continue to extend/retract. If the motor is at lets say 50% speed, I want the LA to only be 1/4 extended pass the half point. Half away point because then i can easily represent reverse. Sure I could have a separate motor for each LA, but space is limited and id like to use as little motors as possible (less motors, less wires, less receivers, etc etc) I know is very obscure right now, but i hope someone have an idea. Keeping in mind space is somewhat of a constraint for this build. Thanks for any thoughts.
  17. Well done sir! You have done it again! Cant wait to see it on a MOC of yours
  18. I'm guessing it will be pneumatic? Could a gear rack one be done or isn't that possible? Basically the 42043 outrigger but with another casing and the middle part would have gear teeth on the sides. I don't know. I wish my CAD program is working
  19. Im just curious, If you are using 3rd party motors, why dont you just use a third party receiver instead of the sbrick? I am also into RC cars and I have actually thought about doing this, but all of my motors are too powerful for the plastic gears
  20. So have the whole thing kinda as one vehicle? that would be interesting, hmmm. now u got me thinking.
  21. Thanks Tommy! As of right now the beam is just resting on a bracket with some LEGO rubber bands so it does not slide off. UMM that is crazy big. I actually was looking at that setup for inspiration, that trailer is actually 4 trailers in one and all those wheel wells could have wheels... and i dont have that many. But it would definitely be a really awesome build
  22. Thanks for the comments dr spock. I want the rear axles to be on a separate channel because those axles would turn around a corner at a different time than the truck does. The extension cable idea is good, but i dont have that many. Regarding 42042, I tried to lift the beam closer to the crane itself, didn't budge. The clutch gear is too effective.
  23. Hey guys, On my drive to school, a bridge is being rebuilt and it is almost done by now. Everyday I drove by I saw a bunch of cool machines; cranes, excavators, and transport trucks. One day the traffic is at a slow crawl, when I finally got to the construction zone, I noticed a concrete beam transport truck was getting a police escort the the job site. Awesome site to see. I thought i would be a really cool build to do, so I tried it. I already had a truck made, but from other topics I started, it had some problems with it and I did not think it had enough power. So first I modified the truck. Then I made the rear axles of the trailer. I made it 5 axles with 3 of them steerable. The the concrete beam was built. Building goals: powerful truck steerable "trailer" make a beam some what to scale (this is really too short) The only problem with the build is with the receivers. The distance in between them is almost 8 feet and I'm not able to control the truck and trailer at the same time. So driving this around gets pretty challenging. Here are some amateur pictures from my iPhone. BTW, the table is 8 feet long ALSO, sorry for the rainbow of color, I don't have a ton of grey bricks I had the camera focus on the truck and if you notice it could not focus on the rear of the trailer then If you notice, the back of the beam is actually higher than the front, that is something else I want to fix. 42042 is trying, but no luck. I guess that is the next thing to get an upgrade. I hope you guys like it. Like I said i'm still working on a bunch of things, but I wanted to show you what im working on.
  24. We didn't really discuss the scale of it. But I'd say the scale of the actuator we have now, but thicker to fit more telescopic stages
