I like the stack of power-connectors! Not very stylish, but efficient! Regards, Gerhard

Unimog Portal Axle Blocks
tripletschiee replied to garson's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
No, that does not work. I tried it, the femal joint would not fit into the hole. Regards, Gerhard -
Yeah, why not! This thing is just a first draft! So there is plenty of room for improvement. E.g.: - I used a 32 axle for the blades. This is way to wide. So I have to finde a way to have it shortened (except cutting the axle). - When lifting up the whol snowblower the drive-train will touch the pneumatic-cylinder. That is also not good... - the whole lifting mchanism is pretty soft (it twists a lot). So that has also to be improved - ... The tires itself are standing approximately 1 till 1.5 studs over the mud defender on each side. So the width at the wheel-base is something between 23 and 24 studs. Regards, Gerhard

@ JunkStyleGio: looks really good with the black panels! I just build my first attempt for a snowblower. The PPTO lifts the whole thing up and down. The PTO turns the blades. As I said, it is just an attempt. It is not even prototype-stadium. But it sort of works. Of course there are still some issues to be solved, but for a start it is ok. See more pictures on flickr. I think it needs to be bigger, so I'll extend the radius of the blades by one or two studs. And of course the expulsion-thing is missing. Regards, Gerhard

I agree, black panels would be cool! But I don't have any and I was too lazy to order some a BL. But, if you look at the real Unimog the snowplow is in most cases orange! But these are too expensive at the moment. Yes, absolutley! I was so hapy to read, that it was available in Munich... It is one of - if not THE best model I won from Lego technic. Maybe I will also motorise it. But I do not have any plans for that. I fact I plan to implement a working steering wheel in the cabin. There is plenty of room, so it should not be a big problem. And it would make the Unimog even more realistic. I know and that is why I was a little astonished, that mine did not touch the ground. As I said I could not find any mistake by myself. However, the fine-tuning is history... Regards, Gerhard

I just build the snowplow with existing parts from my collection. But I was wondering about this "fine-tuning" function. What is it for? At least for my Unimog the shield did not touch the ground even when I "fine-tuned" the shield as low as possible. I checked the instructions, I did not make anything wrong... However: I just modified the snowlpow a little. Added a third panel on the top row. IMHO it looks much better now. I don't know why TLG choosed the solution with only two panels. Then I removed that fine-tuning stuff, lowered the whole shield by one stud at the attachment-points. And now the shield touches the ground and even releses the suspension a little when fully lowered. I also changed the tilting angle a little. It tilts now more to the right than to the left. And I added two little support-wheels instead of the two skiding rails. Here are my photos at flickr. But do NOT think too much about the green panels! But guess which model I disassembled for that! Regards, Gerhard

Here in Germany the Unimog was available since about 23. June for a couple of days in the official Lego Flagship Stores. And most of those who have it already ran there immediatly! At least in Munich the counter-girl couldn't say why it was available about 6 weeks before the official release date. Regards, Gerhard

Of course, with the crane in the back it does not make sense. A least you should not lift it up when loaded... But remove the crane and it is ok. It was just a rainy Sunday afternoon and I did not spent too much time on that. And I also wanted to read your comments on this so that I can improve it. I'll think about and try to make it sideways. Regards, Gerhard

I think, it would make sense to open a new thread for the Unimog 8110 U-400, that includes all the MOCs, changes, improvements on the Unimog. It should also contain all the new attachments, equipments, that people build. It should show their ideas and what they are creating for this cool set. I am looking forward to see your creations! I'll start today. I implemented a pneumatic driven cargo bed. It is driven by the original motorized pump and works pretty well. The lifting angle could be better. So there is still room for inmprovments. For more pictures of this MOC plesae vistit my Flickr-page or (after publishing) my Brickshelf-folder. Regards, Gerhard

That's a good review! Thanks! 1) For the error: I was also wondering, why the front axle was never in the middle, but I did not think about it too much, till i read the explanation here. Very strange from TLG to oversee that. I changed it and - what surprise - the front suspension works better. 2) There is a second error in the building instructions: on page 32 (step 84, booklet 2) the meter (to measeure the correct length od the pneumatic-tube) starts not at 0cm but on 2,2cm. All the other meters in the booklets are correct. See here this picture. 3) For th problem on the new pump: I added an airtank, so I could not discover any problems so far. The compressor makes good pressure and with the airtank in between, the risk of an overload is less. 4) I already added a gear reduction for the steering mechanism (instead of the yellow knob-wheels). IMHO it improves the steering feeling. 5) I also added a transmission for the motor input. Thus the pistons are turning faster in motor. I like that better. 6) Why did TLG uses a blue axle pin here ar the enforcment liftarem instead a black pin? See the arrow in the same picture of the two points above. 7) And finally the error I alredy talked about on the side of the box, where it says, that there should be two motors inside. So, if TLG is changing something in the moment, they should also change the two mentioned errors (point 2 and 7). Regards, Gerhard

I finished mine yesterday evening. It is great! It is huge! It is heavy! It works fine, but... ... the steering is pretty hard. I think a gear reduction would make sense. ... the suspension is pretty stiff/hard, if you push downwards. But it is very sensititv, when luffing the Mog sidewise. But a stiff suspension means also a capability of heavy equipment. I already added an Airtank. It definitly improves the performance of the pneumatic system. The position of the airtank is not perfect, but good enough to prove concept. My Flicr Regards, Gerhard
