LEGO Star Wars 2019 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Tariq j replied to Stash2Sixx's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I feel like the problem here isn’t the quality but rather the quantity. I thought the trees would be a little taller so that one could knock them over like in the film. It’s definitely one of those sets you’d have to buy 2 one 3 of to make something more substantial, but then even doing that would set you back about £60. -
Well for starters, neither of the sets in question show Anakin being burned, they depict the duel that happens before hand. And it’s two characters having a lightsaber duel. Is that any different to two characters from Ninjago having a fight? Or two knights from the castle theme having a sword fight? Or a Policeman trying to stop a robber from escaping in the City theme? And the Ultimate Lightsaber Duel set is designed so that kids can have their own lightsaber fight using the rods, not to mention it’s littered with play features and the light up lightsabers. Heck this set could not be MORE kid friendly if it tried.

Exactly, this is a chase set. It's no different to many of the Star Wars sets, or some of the Ultra Agents sets, or a lot of the police sets in which the police chase the robbers. And then to the theme itself. Indiana Jones is a good guy who defeats the bad guys, outsmarts the temple booby traps, and finds the hidden treasure and saves the day. Is this any different to Ninjao, where the heroes also defeat the bad guys, go through challenges and save the day, or Star Wars, or Marvel/DC? It's true the movie you've picked does happen to have dark/gory aspects to It. But since these aspects are not depicted in the sets I don't see the problem.

The problem is though, this starts to get into “I’m not happy because he/she aren’t buying and using LEGO sets for the same reasons that I’M buying and using sets” It’s also very likely an AFOL will buy a set, build it, then realise “actually parts X, Y and Z could be used for this MOC and parts A, B and C could be used for that MOC” and they’ll take the set apart to use the pieces for whatever MOC’s they want.

Some people think it might be Jafar from the 2nd Disney CMF line. Either way though, that head piece would make a good Bail Organa figure. -
This may be a regional thing but in the UK the Original Trilogy is rated a U on DVD packagaing. Which means anyone can watch it. Regardless, even if they haven’t seen/didn’t understand the movie for whatever reasons to them, the guy with the green lightsaber - good guy. The guy with the red lightsaber - bad guy. Kids are imaginative and will create their OWN stories and adventures with the sets and minifigures. Not necessarily, not every kid might be into Castle or Pirates. They may prefer other themes. It’s different strokes for different folks. Some like to pretend their the Captain of a ship to find treasure, others like to swoosh an X-wing around a room.

I like it . The smooth finish on the top is a huge improvement over the original. I like the use of the Indiana Jones whip piece.
-
I still feel bad for vengekilling you in Kingdoms Mafia , though in my defence there weren't a while lot of players active on the first day

Big applause to the scum, killing the Doctor and Vig so early! And good job josting KotZ. I wanted to use the commuter role, but didnt want to waste it either, I think that was my problem, I was too held back.

The Slave looks excellent . It utilises the techniques of the UCS version only at a smaller scale. To a shame about the Carbonite block not being updated though. I really like the Dropship as well. Essentially the original us using more recent parts and techniques. Anakin’s Podracer looks good too. Although it does feel a little lonely without Sebulba’s (or anyone’s) podracer present. They’ve also given Han the original Megaphone blaster! It does raise the question of what the gold and silver blasters are for. -
I really like it, especially the use of the Planet’s Death Star piece for the Imperial Centre , I didn’t actually see it at first but I love the Speeder Road you’ve included.

To themes I want to see discontinued, to be honest there’s no theme I would actively want to see gone. But I definitely agree with some past posts about technic catering to other models. I wouldn’t mind seeing the return of some kind of adventure theme like Johnny Thunder/Indiana Jones - or better still both!
-
But haven’t there been a few Space Themes around the same time as Star Wars? Space Police III, Alien Conquest, Galaxy Squad, Mars Mission etc.

In all fairness, LEGO doesn't know that movie is going perform badly. They design their sets months in advance so that they can tie into the release of the movie. I felt the Harry Potter line gave us some good elements. The teenage legs for start, plus various useful roof elements.

That's an interesting point. It would also explain Mr Goddard's quick vote for Diane. It's seems very convenient that Diane claimed AFTER the investigator died. Because at this point there's no way of proving her claim false. Bear in mind, Benson claimed last hour, so she's had plenty of time to claim too him. I'm not going to split the vote so Vote: Diane Greene (fhommes)
-
Something about this rubs me up the wrong way. I understand Goddard is doing this for the sake of avoiding a no lynch but the fact he doesn’t even try and give evidence as to why Diane might be a mole (using his experience as an excuse to do so), but follows Bob and votes for her anyway seems too easy to me. For me it’s a flip between Goddard and Diane, I’m more inclined to vote for Goddard at this stage but until Mr Benson clarifies what he meant by “VC” I want to reserve my judgement till then.
-
What’s VC? Vigilante? A claim when someone is at risk of being lynched is one that should be taken with caution. In another life of mine, a player (who it later turned out was scum) came to me just as he was about to be lynched and claimed Vig. Bear in mind as well, there’s been plenty of time to claim to you so it’s odd he would wait till now to do so.

I believe in the film Sirius was being kept in the Dark Tower. Which I think is what the watchtower is?

I’ve been looking at this as a process of elimination here, which has helped in past games. The blockings are useful because they tell us who was NOT active during the night. Benson is the blocker so it cannot be him, he blocked Jason last night so he can’t be the killer, we know Bob is town according to the investigator so he can’t be the killer either, we also know myself and Riley were blocked on Nights 2 and 3 on which there were kills so we can’t be the killer either, that only leaves Moore, Alfred, Diane and Goddard as the killer. This theory could be completely wrong though, and is based on the idea that there’s no rotating kill. That’s what I’ve been thinking too. Bear in mind as well, the game mechanics are different here as both teams are against the clock. Unlike normal games the scum don’t need to outnumber anybody to win, they only need to Survive to win, so even if there was only 1 scum amongst 8 townies, the scum would still have won.
-
A paranoid gun owner could make sense actually. Although I feel like he might’ve claimed either in thread or to you, to stop this kind of situation happening, i.e. Losing town PR’s unnecessarily. BUT, if he was the paranoid gun owner, and he was responsible for the Senator’s death, then it means Jason was blocked on a night with no scum kill, which is interesting... There is definitely a sense of convenience here, especially since all the players so far investigated are Town. It raises the question, was a mole in contact with the late Senator? Because if the moles knew one of their own was going to be investigated a kill would stop that result from reaching the town.

If I remember correctly as well, the original 10188 Death Star, also has changes to some of its figures, like replacing Han’s face from the traditional smirk to the 2011 head. So yeah, it wouldn’t surprise me if that was the case here. That also might mean Luke and the other Stormtroopers in the set will be changed too. Zuckuss, looks excellent! It took us 20 years, but we got him in the end! Also really impressed with the Finn minifigure. -
That’s a possibility I thought of as well. I’m sure there have been Godfathers in previous games too so it’s not an uncommon role. One other possibility was that the Investigator, the Senator, was a naive one, meaning he only recieived town results regardless of the actual alignment of the player. It’s highly unlikely, but I guess there’s a first time of everything right? That or he has genuinely unlucky.

Rarest set, polybag, piece or minifigure that you own
Tariq j replied to Lego David's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The rarest I can think of is the Percival Graves/Gellert Grindelwald figure from the Harry Potter CMF line. Plus there's some of the May 4th Figures as well. (Though they've definitely been re released during various Force Friday's). -
I really like what you've done here, remaking the old sets using the new elements and minifigures. I also love the way the sorting hat is angled so that it's looking down on Harry. I'm really excited to see where this goes, especially with all the new elements and pieces introduced.

24: Mafia - Confirmation and Discussion

Yeah, an anonymous game sounds fun. One of the first games I read through was Minimal Mafia, another anonymous game, and that looked good.
