[POLL] Selecting my new LEGO Ideas project (2016, January)
___ replied to ___'s topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
UPDATE So I finally made it...I mean I am absolutely satisfied with what it becomes (or still becoming?) of the @whitswj's "Grabler" vehicle now: mobile HQ base with grabler tractor towing it...first quick renders sometime later, stay tuned (those that are interested...I hope @whitswj will like it too - fingers crossed ) ... EDIT And here it is - promised final prototype version quick multi-render (click image for FullHD version)... -

OK, here is the quick multi-render of the actual state of the work on (as of now) abandoned Tecntroners monorail system (click image for FullHD version)...as you can see it is basically in very very early stage of development, kind of a rail and stuff mess - I did not like it at the end after all, so I left it as it was (maybe sometime in the future I could return to it and find some usage for it or parts of it - who knows). -

That is quite interesting too tho my favorite one is still your "grabler" vehicle - to me it looks more compact and polished in style and design (basically finished Techtroners vehicle right from the start ): this "HQ base" seems a bit off from Techtroners style - it would actually need a lot reworking to suit exact Techtroners feeling. Anyway it is undoubtedly original, so if you don't mind I would stay with the vehicle as for now (that one is a gem: simply perfect from my point of view...we just need to find better usage for it than simple rocket mover, you know...maybe integrating with your next smaller HQ base forming a set?) waiting for your next model so we could probably join them together becoming kind of "6970/6971/6930" potential pseudo-set! + we'll have to find some more advanced logic how they could integrate/cooperate with one another (like some kind of dock for the vehicle in the HQ base, some parts from the base detachable and attachable to the vehicle, some surprising stuff like: "Oh, so this can be opened like some secret doors that would reveal some stuff to play with" etc...that kind sort of things I am thinking of)... I scarped that initial idea of your vehicle being part of my pseudo-monorail MOC cos it was too big, too ugly, too little idea of "what it actually is all about" and frankly I was lost in a way of developing the complex (but who knows? maybe later I will find the way around and making it some of my next MOC...we will see as for this monorail of mine)...ah! Therefore I am hoping you come up with some nice interesting smaller HQ base so we can join them together with some of my input - that'd be great! BTW as I was not happy with the monorail part I started new idea of your vehicle being front part of mobile station but once again I do not know what it should be actually about in terms of usage: is it kind of drilling stuff? fueling base? just some random movable platform? I do not know...later today I will make some quick renders of the work as it looks now wating for your input on that idea: basically your vehicle is detachable in front of it all...something like in ALIEN movie when the ship could detach from the front - the same principle vith your vehicle and the mobile base but I am not sure I like it, this is terrible with me (always trying to achieve maximal perfection, at least as much as virtual design allows) -
Well, as for the LDCad - I did try it and it feels really very close to LDD (parts snapping for example) - if I ever was thinking about going away from LDD to LDRAW this would definitely be the only one I would choose for sure tho it is still not the same as LDD but it is far far faaaar better than any other LDRAW SW out there I have used (ehm, from the point of view of skilled LDD user, of course) tho I did stay with LDD cos I developed over time many techniques and MODs for it I could not live without anymore, probably (shared also here on EB) that actually allows me to do anything I want, the way I want to and extremely quickly yet still in super photo realistic quality renders.

Actually not much but thanx a lot for your interest to help me, my friend - appreciated!
-
Aha! Thanx + do you also know its ID (so I can look it up on BrickLink)?
-
I like that big trans blue thing - what brick is it?
-
Actually, I could think about much more options that could be added, but mainly and absolutely definitely there should be added - for such PRO version - real physics behavior (switchable on/off) + real interaction of connected parts: that is if I have something that would move in real brick when some other part is rotating it should do the same in this virtual LDD world (see I am developing everything only in LDD so it would help unbelievably!) I agree fully on this!
-
Very interesting Blacktron inspired MOCs - conrats! But why I have such a strange feeling that I already saw some of them somewhere around here?

Thanx

For some reason I see no videos - you could also provide direct link to its source so in such case one can view it on its website...

End of support for LDD
___ replied to Lasse D's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Ehm, sorry to tell you BUT YOU ARE WRONG: it is not simple XML - xml only stores some important variables/constants BUT actual bricks (3D) are in LDD own .g format for which there is no publicly available editor and most probably will never be so please stop that nonsense about LDD bricks are just some xml files cos that is not true, my friend and it is much more complicated than that. On the other hand I agree with some previous commenters that in case TLG would decide to stop LDD development/support (which we now know is not true thanx to @Cwetqo) then it would most probably end up being "cracked" in some way so some ppl with adequate knowledge would be able working on LDD updates alone. As a side note: I guess talking about this stuff (cracking/disassembling/editing) of LDD internal files was/is not allowed here on EuroBricks forums, isn't it? Moderator comment: Yes...your're right. I've edited this post slightly and hid other post. Thanks for your understanding -
Problem is that @msx80 made the principle upon which Parameters tab operates wrongly (you should understand that I cannot edit his BR - basically GUI of BR - code, only the engine of SunFlow - if it would be upon me it'd be corected immediately long time ago...you have to urge him for an update if you want to use parameters tab with my MOD): he assigned "hardwired" variables into .sc attribute(s) instead of real values (for those values you can change on that tab), so everytime you start BR it sets those to BR defaults and there is no possible way how to have your values saved like this! It should be made this way: when BR starts it should check values at those attributes in .sc file, set them to corresponding fields in Parameters tab and if user change them they should be saved back as real parameters to .sc file again - that way everything would work as it should, that is: one could change those values via Parameters tab and still they would be saved in .sc file. Therefore I changed those variables back to their real values (instead of "hardwired" variable names) in .sc file so they are saved - YOU HAVE TO EDIT THEM MANUALLY in your .sc file (hey, it is just one line when we talk about the background). EDIT I just added this question with my answer to "Q&A" section of my initial post of this topic for everyone having this issue(s).

I just re-checked: you arre right - I thought that image you have used there and here was the same, sorry. No problem - glad to help you. it is called "brick seams" and you can find the info in "TUTORIALS" -> "Default MANDATORY system{} code block for your .sc" -> brickseams_adjustGap 0.000022 Just increase that value A TINY LITTLE BIT and that "outline" will be bigger, but I should warn you my solution isn't perfect cos all it does - tho it was pretty time consuming task - is that it shrinken bricks in the same "brick-type" group(s) by a certain specific value and added this amount to it (0.00022) so the bigger the gap the more visible "inconsistency" in that gap size between different brick groups (some would have it wider, others thinner). I did not apply CENTERING IT (moving it) by a half amount of all applied values on X/Y/Z axes yet (I wanted to add it later but the thing is I have no time nor interest these weeks for any MOD work, sorry - other stuff came to its way...maybe sometime later tho it will be pretty time consuming too) so if you have "bad luck" and rotate the brick(s) in a way that they are connected by the same oposite sides the actual shrinking was done to then there will be no visible brick seam - in such case solution would be pretty simple tho annoying if you would have plenty of such occurrences: go and rotate your brick 180 degrees so they do not stick to each other with that unaffected sides.

Oh, but you did HERE although not in this topic, you are right - sorry, my mistake thinking it was asked here. Anyway, I just updated the info in the "HOW TO" section in my initial post of this topic - please, go and read it.
-
OK, so I will ask you this second time now as you did not answer first time: did you include ALL NOW REQUIRED (MANDATORY) CODE into your .sc file (because code inside .sc after installing my MOD differs a lot from standard .sc code!)? Go and read my first post of this topic, please (TUTORIALS -> Default MANDATORY system{} code block for your .sc).
-
Hello, I will add your solution to "MAC USERS" section of the initial post of my BR MOD topic HERE - thank you!
-
OK, thanx for suggestion - gonna add that right away (I will make new section called "MAC users")
-
Well, that is strange then cos it should have no effect on the render whatsoever (if you really changed just the angle).
-
What do you mean by "but then I changed the angle of the build"? You mean in LDD or in rotation field in BR GUI? + thanx - I am glad you like my MOD!

Thanx, whitswj, we can work on those claws later if you will (I have nothing against Technics-like style/system if it is used reasonably...for instance I like very much Mars Mission subtheme and as you have said it is basically in concept Technics in space ), BUT I have some other news: I've pushed it "a bit" further making your vehicle just a part of a larger complex of pseudo-monorail of Techtroners - your vehicle grabs kind-of container, puts it on a foldable monorail-like part (!!), there it connects to a train-like small rocket that brings it via big system of monorails to some higher ground where it should be stored side by side other such containers, then that small train-like rocket disconnects, fly to the starting point and process can begin from start once again on and on...but it is still in extremely early stage of development , I hope you will like the idea and if not no problem, I will change it cos the truth is it looks somewhat strange (being working on it right now as we speak). Anyway, I like the concept (that is: your vehicle as a machine inside monorail complex) but I will have to rethink in more depth and complexity that pseudo-monorail itself...tho it looks promising to me, I just need to scale it down a lot I guess cos now the vehicle seeems to be lost there which is not good as it looks absolutely splendid and beautiful and should be central part of that future MOC, of our work, you know. -

Yea, thanx - I was aware of that but if you look up at whitswj original posted images which are real LEGO bricks model he has basically the same weight and even if it is holding that big white container/tank it still is strong as a rock so I guess it could actually work, but can't test it myself as I mostly developing virtually in LDD where, unfortunately, you cannot test physics, so it's just an assumption.
