I'm actually sort of hoping for fewer Creator sets with minifigs, we had five this year, which is almost too many since they're the only Creator sets I've been collecting and I want to cut down on how much Lego I buy a year :\ The previous City House looks like something that could be modified easily to fit in with the pseudo-modular shops we've had previously, which I think would be cool, since I've been using them in lieu of the proper Modular Buildings. They're not to the same scale or quality obviously, but they are a decent substitute. Having a residential building among the shops would be neat. Of course, 'city house' could also be 'town house', and the previous Town Houses have been the more traditional standalone buildings. Either would make me happy, frankly, especially since we haven't had a proper full-sizes 'house' in a couple of years.

New Zealand: "Where to find Lego"
David Thomsen replied to Legoman's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Has anyone spotted the latest Minifig series yet? -
Oh right! Yeah I forget about him because he's a different style from the rest of the pirates, less 'yarr!' and more Errol Flynn. I don't put him with my other Pirate crews, whereas this Skallywag fits right in.

He looks perfect, finally after all these series we get a non-captain, non-Disney pirate figure... Next can we have a pirate woman plz

Determine the Haven Guard Flag - VOTE NOW!
David Thomsen replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
Whatever happened to this project? I get the feeling everyone forgot about it when the 2015 pirates were announced, but now it's mid 2016 and no new pirates in the foreseeable future... I wonder if the project could be revived again? Or, to put it more concisely, 'bump'. -
I'm kind of surprised no one has mentioned this yet, but the Mixels Pyrratz sets have lots of pirate accessories. Where else are you going to get a shark with a peg leg, a skull with an eyepatch, a crab that is also a treasure chest, and they all join together to form some kind of sentient pirate ship? Totally piratey.

Now I'm conflicted. I hadn't bought the camper, but if I get this set, it feels like I absolutely have to get the camper as well...

I find this very unlikely. How can there be a law against sharing pictures of things that you own? It'll be whoever broke the embargo and sold who get in trouble. I used to work in a book store and we actually had security guards making sure no one opened the boxes of the final Harry Potter book ahead of schedule. It was insane.

Does anyone know what other sets this might be in scale with? When I have my cars on display I like them to be on display with sets at the same scale. By my estimation, it might scale reasonably well with the Ferrari F40?

It does look indeed like a mini Inferno, but probably not one has many useful Pirate parts apart from looking vaguely like a mini pirate ship. There's a review of the Angry Birds ship now, it doesn't have many Pirate parts, just a weird cartoonish pirate hat, some oars, dynamite, some leaves and possible the sails which some people might be able to use in interesting ways. It does contain a wide variety of brown ship bits, which is useful.

'Masterpiece' classic sets for Lego Ideas
David Thomsen replied to David Thomsen's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Ha ha, that's exactly the idea behind a project I submitted two years ago. I kind of wish I'd spent more time polishing the idea now. -
21309 NASA Apollo Saturn V (LEGO Ideas)

A shame, I was really hoping the Beagle would get through. Not really interested in these other sets. From the next review I predict we'll get Johnny 5 and Particle Accelerator... but I think the one I'd want the most is the Old Fishing Store. -
I'm a collector of Masterpiece Transformers, which are like classic G1 transformers that have been revisited in a larger scale with improved engineering techniques and detail. They're great because they let me buy toys that I never had as a child, but in a form that I appreciate much more as an adult. I'd love to see classic Lego sets given the same treatment. Things like the Black Seas Barracuda, but in the scale of the 2010 Imperial Flagship. Or one of the classic Town holiday homes or airports, or a classic Castle castle, or a classic Spaceship, built with twice as many pieces. We've already seen something like a Masterpiece Classic Spaceship in the form of Benny's Spaceship, and I think the popularity of that set shows that there is an appeal for this sort of thing. I started working on my own Masterpiece 6374 Holiday Home a while ago, with details like a tile-built driveway and a brick-built tree, but I don't really have enough time for it right now. Also I have no idea if other people are nostalgic enough for that particular set to vote for it if I uploaded it to Lego Ideas, and I'm not sure if I'm a good enough builder to make something that people would want to vote for anyway. Also I can't figure out how to extract my work from Digital Designer and render it in high quality. So I guess I have a few questions. Are Masterpiece Lego sets an idea that people would be interested in? Which sets are iconic enough to receive the Masterpiece treatment? And would people be willing to work together, maybe sharing files through Digital Designer, to design sets good enough that people would vote for them in Lego Ideas?

Some pics of CMF S16 were tracked down with a better look at the Scallywag pirate, I won't link it here but some targetted Googling can track them down. The pictures I've found are of the instruction sheet that comes with the minifigure, not sure if more pictures are out there yet. His cutlass seems to be the classic mould, but he comes with a new map print, which I will need a few of. He has striped cut-off trousers and a tattoo printed on his right arm, not sure about his left arm. Can't make out much of his new bandanna mould yet. The other fig that might be of interest is the Arabian Knight figure, who I think might have a torso that could be used for a pirate. Or you could just leave him as an Arabian Pirate. I'm also giving my Scallywag Pirate the Mariachi's acoustic guitar. Underneath that harsh exterior he's really just loves to serenade the sea.

I feel like it would have been decent for 1978. Not sure why they made it so blocky in 2008

I kind of agree. It seems a bit sensationalist and out of character with Eurobricks? But now that I know the date I'm looking forward to it :) -
See, this is why I've wanted non-building minifig-compatible Creator sets for so long. The buildings are cool, but there is so much potential for vehicles as well. Think how great something like Transport Ferry would be if it were minifig compatible. Although that would make it quite expensive, so maybe a smaller scale ferry. I really hope this sells well and they produce more Creator vehicles like this.

This is possibly kind of a fatalistic attitude, but we're all doing irreparable damage to the planet itself, people modifying classic cars seems harmless in comparison... it just means that the remaining unmodified cars have more value, and there will always be unmodified cars. Anyway, I can't wait to see this new Beetle. I'm predicting white with a blue surfboard. I also wonder which other car it's going to be most in scale with.

Hey all, Just out of curious, does anyone know how long the Nexo Knights theme is going to last? I don't mind them doing something new like this occasionally, but as a fan of both Castle and Space, I'm suddenly worried that Nexo Knight is going to turn into something like Ninjago and stick around forever, depriving us for a long time of classic Castle and Space sets.

Wait, does anyone know anything about this 10252: Volkswagen Beetle that I just found on Brickset?

Looks like the next car will be a Caterham, in the Ideas line at least... doesn't exclude there being another car in the main line, so there might be two this year.

I guess I'll have to get used to 'bald' minifigures, I've never known quite what to think of having 'hats' shaped like bald heads. But otherwise I'm excited by this, new types of headgear for pirates! I hope we see it in other colours, maybe black or brown or dark green. Shame we can't see the whole minifigure (in the image I found), but I'm quite sure he'll fit in with my pirate crew nicely. Can't see much else in S16 that might be useful for Pirates yet, except for perhaps the acoustic guitar on the Mariachi... anyone familiar with musical instruments know whether that sort of guitar would be appropriate for the era? Edit: actually looks like the 'modern' guitar shape has been around for the long time, I'm definitely adding a pirate guitarist to my crew: http://www.guyguitars.com/eng/handbook/BriefHistory.html

I had to look it up, it's from here: I wouldn't normally consider this, but... I really think my Pirate theme could to with a Pirate Batman... maybe hidden away as an 'easter egg' or something...
-
Hat looks a bit too cartoony for my Pirate theme... and the torso has flesh coloured skin on it, and I already have the Épée in pearl gold. So I guess I'll be passing on this minifig... there are a few other bits that might be useful for a Pirate theme, like the telescope and the knife, but I think I have enough of them already.

Will it be a Captain Hook minifigure, or a Friends-style minidoll? I think the rest of the Disney figures are all minidolls, so I expect Captain Hook will be one as well. Still, he might come with some useful accessories like the hat with hairpiece you mentioned.
