Like the idea. Random kid beating a rat in the attic kinda takes away from the MOC a bit? If you are going to have something up there maybe have it be someone spying on the briber or bribee? The red wall is too red and need some other color and bricks to break it up a little. It does not seem believable. The chandilier is simple yet elegant, I like it alot and it adds a great deal to the MOC. The chequered floor is a nice touch I wish you had more room to show it off. It would be nice to do something with the outside flowers so they don't look like they were just stuck there. Maybe use some tile int he center or make it look more like a flower planter? I really like the use of the old Admiral's hat. Always a favorite of mine. Nice MOC! -martinsuper

Parrot's Perch Pub PTV2 Contest Entry -medium
martinsuper replied to ProducePrincess's topic in Pirate MOCs
Ok, MOC is called parrot's perch and there is an actually parrots perch. That is very important to me because if it was called Parrot's Perch Pub and there wasn't a parrot's perch that would make me sour! I really like the storyline and I can see how the pub looks like it was supposed to be part of a ship. Even in modern days it is still popular to make ships into bars, restaurants and other cool venues! This is a picture of the Idler in my hometown of South Haven, Michigan, USA: It used to be a riverboat in South America owned by Vincent Price. Now it is a summertime bar! Thats one of the reasons why I really buy into your MOC because it has some real ideas in it's creation! The detail is very nice and the whole concept is eye appealing. My one gripe is that the tournament of retribution is over! Leave us blue coats alone, will ya?! -martinsuper -
Cool MOC! I think that we need to make a new MOC category called "castaways" as this has become a very popular theme! I really like the MOC but I am somewhat unsure if the bottom should be underwater of if the rock is this high from the water? The only reason I ask is because the ladder does not go down all the way and there is no "type of water" at the bottom. I enjoy the idea of a pirate who is trying to make a go of it under really difficult circumstances. The scene look believeable and is clearly a castaway and not something else. A cool creation! -martinsuper

What I enjoyed: 1. Dave He really does look like a poor young lad in the wrong place at the wrong time. 2. Lizzie Very nice choice for the classic pirate wench. It bought me back to an older time of LEGO pirate. 3. The floor. I liked how around your firplace is a stone floor. This makes sense. I like when MOCs make sense. If you would have had a wood floor around the fireplace it would have bothered me because it would burn. 4. The picket fence. Simple, yet very eye appealing and looks like it belongs there. What bothered me: 1. Details I know that Dave's pants and fire out of the chimney have already been mentioned but I don't feel I would be doing a full critic without mentioning those items. 2. The outside pirate If Dave can just walk in and watch whatever he wants, why can't that poor chap outside come in for a show too? It isn't totally wrong because it allows for a window without showing too much outside. 3. Roof Why not finish the roof so that it meets the edge of the MOC? Is this due to lighting concerns? You have already shown a nice roof, maybe just build a little more of it? A very nice MOC that is simply built yet very entertaining! Good Job! -martinsuper

Another great MOC! What I enjoyed: 1. Cobblestones! I love cobblestones and especially when they are done right! You made them look exceptional and I they were very eye appealing. It also broke up the background and refocused the eye to the large MOC rather than the central structure. 2. Water I don't quite remember if I have seen water that has been done like this before but what stood out to me the most was the the water and your shoreline created a slope that again focused the eye of the viewer into the overall picture of the MOC. The colors and layout of the water and the beach are very asthetically pleasing to the rest of the building. 3. Clean lines and clean "cutaway". This is another classic cutaway MOC and the lines and espeically the back roof of the structure make the cutaway possible without making it look gaudy. I really enjoyed that and it made the MOC more fun to look at and inspect closer rather than focusing on a bad cutaway job. 4. Pirate Flag Simple item: This is the first time I have seen someone use the new flag and like it. I couldn't tell you exactly why, but to me it seems like it should be there. 5. Layout. The interior of the structure has a defined and usuable opening, first floor, stairs, second floor, stairs, and third floor. I can almost envision a lonely old pirate walking in and finding himself in one of the upper rooms. Very cool way of transitioning the entire layout. What bothered me: 1. The palm trees look too much like mirror images. Maybe move or modifty them to look more natural? 2. A few spots in the front facade and interior walls simply have too much open brown space. Maybe break them up with something to hang there? All in all a very nice MOC and very eye appealing and enjoyable! Congrats! -martinsuper

Well this is an amazing MOC so I think I am going to rate this one based on some aspects that stand out to me. 1. Fuctionality This MOC is one of the most totally fuctional creations I have ever seen. A good ole red coat boy can very easily row up to thise "hideout" and carry his goods up to the second level. The "stairs" have a very believeable and eye appealing ratio to them, and your ability to curve the path and elevate it make me very envious of the build. 2. Eye Appeal This MOC is a true feast for the eyes. There is no spot that has been left without attention and no space that does not show care and detail. The rock seems totally realistic and the buildings, paths, and layout really look like some redcoats showed up here and made themselves a little outpost. It looks like a team of redcoats took pick axes and actually made that path, and the fact you made me believe that story without saying it just blows my mind. I especially LOVE the small cannon emplacement which truly shows what such emplacement should look like, that is, rock formations with added brick and mortar to make into fighting positions. VERY AMAZING! I spent a long long long time trying to find the BURP and LURP. You did an amazing job of hiding it and still using it to make the structure. 3. Nature The tree looks like it grew there and is supposed to be there. The rock vegetation looks real and natural in its growth pattern. The water really looks like its "lapping" the shoreline. The MOC is totally natural and realistic. 4. How does this MOC fit into actual LEGO pirate sets and other MOCs? I could see this MOC and really believe that the same characters from Soldier's Fort or other LEGO sets would actually be here. This MOC looks like its part of "the larger LEGO pirate world" which is something that I often strive to do and far more often struggle to accomplish. 5. Style You have made many MOCs and I have always been very impressed. You have come to us with yet another MOC that is totally different than anything else you have made, but yet still makes your style completely visible. All I can say is that I can't wait to see you take a picture of this MOC with the new Imperial Flagship in front of it! Could you do me that favor and leave this together long enough to take that picture? Its the only favor I ask because I know you are quick to dismantle! Very very very impressive! -martinsuper

Exactly what I mean. Make it easier to see the bottom action! -martinsuper

What impresses me about this MOC and why: 1. The curved railing. Sometimes angles and curves are rather hard to do with LEGO pieces. The curved railing made me think right away that the whole upper level is curved even though it isn't. Using black floor and a curved railing was a great optical allusion. 2. The actual crimson curtains! A very nice way to make brick look like real curtains! I especially enjoy when an MOC has a creative name that is based on the MOC itself. Did you choose crimson because of its sultry symbolism in older times? 3. The chandelier is simple yet elegant. It adds to the MOC without taking away from the overall appeal. 4. The inlaid floor is a treat to look at! I enjoy the dual idea of a wood floor with a pattern in the center. This made me really believe the piece and buy into it. I also like the two bed in the room and how they are differently made. Very cool and unique! 5. The way the left pirate is sitting is simple but again very well thought out. I really enjoy the mods and staging you have done with the minifigs. 6. You really made me believe that the pirates are enjoying themselves. 7. Last but not least is the swords and skulls you used to decorate the foundation. Many times we look at this "cutaway" style MOC and it looks like it just cut, "cut away". But this MOC looks more like a display that a hacked out scene and I think the biggest reason for that is the small decoration you put to bring the whole creation together. This may be a small detail, but I enjoy it emmensly! What troubled me about the MOC and why: 1. Stone over wood. I seem to be the only one with this particular concern but stone should always be on the bottom and the wooden part of the structure on top. You do not see castles, buuildings, houses, or anything else with a wood foundation and a stone structure. Stone is the foundation and then wood is used to flush out the entire piece. Some solutions would be to make the whole MOC into a wood color. Or choose another color for the top besides gray to make me believe that it is not stone but rather a painted wall? 2. The windows have very nice detail but the top railing leaves too much space and make the frame of the window seem disjointed. Maybe find another piece of the tops of the windows? 3. I do really enjoy the floor but maybe mix up that dark brown tile to the left of the skull to avoid having a big dark brown spot? Maybe mix all of the floor tile up a bit to make it look like different wood? As you can see my concerns are much fewer and much smaller than what I like. A very impressive MOC and I think one that has a serious shot at the title! Good Luck! -martinsuper

A very nice MOC and a great idea. When exactly did those pirates come back to get the treasure?! I think the MOC could use a few adjustments to make it really great. The first is that I would open up the bottom section to make it more visible. Currently you need to be looking directly into the bottom to see whats going on. The top of your MOC uses snot tactics, but the crate should have a plate under it so that it looks like its on top and not sinking into the sand (to look level). This may be a minor issues, but its the first thing that caught my eye. The look of the chain and the "board" the pirate is standing on looks very realistic and makes me believe the scene. Reminds me of several of the pirate buried treasure stories that I used to read as a kid. Nice entry! -martinsuper

Such is life, no? I have been so busy working on my house and getting projects done and LEGO has fallen by the wayside :(. I am trying to find some time to get at least one or two entries in for the contest, but based on what I've seen submitted so far, I don't have a snowballs chance in hell. But I will give it a shot anywho. -Super

Shipayard Shenanigans Ep. 2 "Telescope Issues"
martinsuper replied to General Armendariz's topic in Pirate MOCs
That is the hardest I have laughed in a very long time. After all the bad news about our theme getting cancelled, it was nice to get a good laugh. -
We are getting the baseplates.... and then no sets to tie into them. This is really disapointing. I was going to buy another couple solider's forts for parts, but I no longer want to support LEGO when they won't support me. -Super

I was wondering a couple months ago if anyone has done a Last of the Mohicans MOC yet. VERY NICE!

'Behind The Helm' - please tell us what you think!
martinsuper replied to Captain Zuloo's topic in LEGO Pirates
This is actually a very cool format because its nice to hear what everyone sounds like. When you are online, you assume everyone sounds like you! -
Screw LEGO! I am so tired of them treating us like crap. What the hell did we get an ambassador for? To get cancelled?!

I am so glad that I came back in time for this.

The worst thing that can happen to a LEGO Pirate collector

Blue coats can survive anything, even massive animal attacks. -
Joey I know you don't miss anything, so if you don't know whats going on, who the heck does?! I guess I'll just hang out until someone tells me to do something. I think I most likely will just hang up my hat until a real building contests comes up, as far as I know that should be soon. -Super

I don't mean to be spamming this, but I have been gone for a couple weeks. Am I supposed to be participating in this? Any info please?

Now taking YOUR ideas for NEW PARTS - LAST DAYS!
martinsuper replied to Bonaparte's topic in LEGO Pirates
YES YES YES! Then I could make fort walls that go in all directions. Or even make a fort that is a cross formation. I would like to see hull that are seperated not just horizontally, but vertically as well. This way we could make our ships as wide or a narrow as we wanted. Furthermore, I would like a front hull piece that is less rounded, and more like a triangle to better resemble some real ships. A special brick piece that could be built on top of this hull for height would be nice as well. One of the main reasons I havent worked on a ship MOC is because Im none too happy about how the hull pieces look and work. The ships I want to base my MOCs on, simply don't look like those hulls. -Super P.S. When the heck can we get some 32X32 blue baseplates on Pick-A-Brick?! HUH?!
