Very good mod so far. I really like that I can see the action below! I like to say that if an MOC is a cutaway, the actual building of it doesn't have to "make sense". Meaning that cutaways don't have to be of sound construction because you are looking through something that needs to be there but isn't. Good job and nice improvement! -martinsuper

Parrot's Perch Pub PTV2 Contest Entry -medium

I think too many people are putting too much emphasis on the stairs and missing the larger MOC. But the comments are constructive, so I guess no big deal. -
Reminds me a lot of the all the "Super" Brickbeard's that came out when Brickbeard's Bounty was forst released. Another good build on a classic design. I am probably going to do something similiar to my Brickbeard because my ships are starting to look small! -martinsuper

If this is your first MOC than I am very impressed someone with your skill has been hiding for so long. I don't even know where to begin, but I guess I will go from the bottom up. The water, beach, and even palm tree all look appropriate to the scene. Everything looks right and how it is supposed to be. I question the octopus a little, but maybe he is just curious as to how these sailors got into their situation? This next point may seem silly, but I totally love that you have lighter rock over darker rock. TOO MANY times I see this reversed or done incorrectly and it takes away from the whole MOC for me. I look at this MOC and it just makes sense. Maybe not the fact that the ship is one the rock, but definitely the fact that the rock looks RIGHT! The ship is very well built and I like how you made the top of the rock still look smoother but yet had the ship resting upon it. It really looks like a ship on a rock rather than a LEGO creation with a ship as the top of it. Catch my drift? I assume your poor sailors have been here for a while because they have a ladder trying to get down to the beach. Very nice use of the Viking front bow. Many have debated on this forum how useful that bow might be and I think you have used it correctly without it looking gaudy. I like your vegetation. It seems to be the right amount and not too much. The realistic look of it is very impressive. Furthermore, I also like the simplicity of the two tones of green. Well, I hope your poor sailors make it home some day! This is a very nice MOC and I think you have really put yourself in the running! GOOD JOB! -martinsuper

MUCH MUCH MUCH better! This is a night and day difference. I almost feel that the first MOC has nothing to do with this one. This MOC really captures the scene, the guy in the attic makes sense, and the walls and building look very nice! I LOVE this improved version you made! I think you really put yourself in the running with this update! Very good job and taking the comments and making them happen! -martinsuper

WIP: Achille and Guerrière, French Frigates of 28 guns
martinsuper replied to BrickPerfection's topic in Pirate MOCs
You know you should have made this into a scene of the ship getting commissioned, and then submitted it in Pillage the Vilage II! -
I have to disagree old man! For once, I just like good old fashion water. I think with small builds you can get away with it just fine!

My biggest problem is that I never want to dismantle anything! So everytime I want to build something new, its off to Bricklink I go!!!

Micro scale is a really good idea and a very unique one for this contest! I have to agree with the others that the spiders are going to have to go. Also, if you could "pull back" the ships a little from the island I could see them better and realize faster that they are a micro-scale fleet! Maybe use snot and make the water smoother and the ships more defined? Just an idea... I was always VERY impressed with the skill that micro-scale takes! Good Job! -martinsuper

Hey, really cool MOC! I love how you have shown your scene of the soldier's relaxing and enjoying themselves. I think that I like the fact that you have a lot going on without showing too much. My only gripe would be that the officer is in a wierd spot and because of that I also don't like his wierd hair. I often don't mind non-pirate hair used in pirate MOCs, but because of the location and placement, it somewhat bothers me. Other than that, the whole thing look great! Good Job! -martinsuper

I really enjoy the MOC as a whole. You took one picture without showing the bottom of the brick and I think that picture is your best. I know most have already said that seeing the bottom of the brick bothers them so I won't dwell on that too much. What I enjoy most about this MOC is that you have done a very good job of using non-pirate pieces for a pirate scene. The non-pirate minifig parts and other small accesories really look great in this creation. I also LOVE how you have the glasses hanging upside down just like they would in a real bar. I don't know if that was done during pirate times but to me that is such a good idea that I could car less. Overall the MOC just screams bar to me and in that case I think you accomplished exactly what you wanted to do. Good job! -martinsuper

Yeah, I am interested in Creative Critic and have already been typing my butt off! I wish everyone good luck in this and in their building endevours!

Ah I can finally see it! Very cool MOC with a good job of using cross section and "x-ray vision" to show the scene. I really really enjoy how you made the rock under the captain look like a tunnel. I am very impressed that as soon as I saw it I thought, "thats a tunnel!". I think that maybe a different head would be good for the captain because even though we all use this head to show surprise or fear, it looks too childish on the captain. I like how you combined the look of the captains cabin and the tunnel into one seamless scene. You really had me believing it. Good Job! -martinsuper

I really enjoy the different looking minifig, but I think that his pants need to be white or another color because he has too many bright colors going on. The sign is funny and enjoyable except that most soldiers knew the brothels from word of mouth. Or often they were called Saloons. Maybe change the sign? I do enjoy how you used photoshop for creating it, it looks really good! Maybe make the "path" a little wider so that its more defined? Or even make it go through the middle instead of at an angle? Good job, -martinsuper

I really like how the scene looks like its part of a much larger background rather than just a small scene. I can almost see the rest of the beach around him and the Brickbeard's Bounty sailing away. Would they still call it Brickbeard's Bounty or would it be "Mutiny on Brickbeard's BOUNTY"!!! HAHAHA, I couldn't help myself on that one! Well done and very cool to look at! -martinsuper P.S. I don't know why, but I think you need a crab in this scene. I have no logically reason for telling you that except that I think the crab needs to be there somewhere.

I really like this MOC because it looks cartoonish, but in an enjoyable way. I like the storyline is somewhat whimsical, and that the pirates also have a jovial and happy look to them. The water, rocks, beach, and minifig selection all seem to work together rather well. If there was an older pirate in there, or maybe something that looked more serious and sinister, I think I wouldn't like this as much. However, as it is, it look sreally cool. As I have said with many of the MOCs submitted for the contest so far, you have made me believe the scene and storyline not through what you wrote, but through what you build and showed me. Bravo! I think small entries are the hardest! -martinsuper

I think its a good enough set to MAKE YOU A FAN!

I really enjoy the update a lot more! It reminds me of classic portraits of surrenders and peace treaties.

I really like that you got the correct spanish flag. I think that the soldier and the other minifig both have a spanish look and fit well in the MOC. I especially like the native who remind me a lot of the natives in the beginning of Indiana Jones. Very cool! -martinsuper

There have already been many comments so I will keep mine short. You did an amazing job of showing the fish explosing out of the water. But would such a large fish be so close to the dock? -martinsuper

Ok, showing off that you have the merchant torso is always a LEGO pirate badge of honor. So using that torso for grandpa was a pretty cool idea. The loot in the basement reminded me a lot of the film second hand lions, where two old guys have a whole pile of cash hidden in the basement of the barn. That is a very cool idea to bring into a pirate MOC. You did a very good job of making the child look childish and the grandpa look mature. Sometime that is much harder to do in LEGO pirate than most people think. I really enjoyed this one! -martinsuper

I have never seen an MOC will all of the different factions in it that I enjoyed until this one! What a cool idea! I really like how everyone has their own way of having a good time. I especially enjoy the "balloon" idea! I like the double decker look without making it look too much like a cutaway. Very good job! PARTY! -martinsuper

Since there has been so much comment on this MOC I will see if I can find some items that haven't been said. I really enjoyed the mine idea and it reminded me of the old gold mine in the western series, but still believable with pirate line minifigs! I think the reason I liked the beard on the soldier is because it shows that he hasn't been "battle ready" for a while and instead has gone rather un-soldierly as a cole miner. Have you thought about changing those white pants? I don't think white pants would stay white long in a cole mine. Nothing stays white in a cole mine. -martinsuper

I really like how the water turned out and I especially enjoy your use of minifig parts to make this new unique figure. The only problem I would say I have is that until I read that the pirate was holding a net I couldnt figure out what it was. Maybe use some other technique to simulate a net? -martinsuper

With small MOCs its hard to give a lot of critic but I think with this one it will be easy. First off, everything looks like its supposed to be there. The style and dress of the minifig look like they match with the stlye of the building. I look at this MOC and I really believe that it is a scared lady answering the door. I don't think you needed to even explain that, I think the MOC could do that on it's own. I especially like that you made it look like the minifig is in action. I can envision the lady looking through or opening the door as I look at the scene. It looks like you have taken a picture not of an MOC but instead of a moment in time while someone was doing something. Very well done! -martinsuper
