Heroica RPG - Quest #62: Insider Trading
Dannylonglegs replied to Dannylonglegs's topic in The Heroica Archive
Speaking of Anarchy... The party decided to ignore the actions of the mob, spurred on by Bo Ba's goons. They instead decided to chase after Fleur. They raced down the street, but looking back, they could see the chaos take its toll on the Town. The peasants pushed the jaiil cart over completely, the prisoners freeing themselves. The prisoners made their way out one by one. The Arsonist assaulted the Guard on the left, beating him savagely with his fists until he got a hold of the man's spear, with which he impaled the guard. he hefted the torch in the air and shouted, "The world shall be purified! All evil shall be purged by fire! For the Burdened One!" The insane man then ran off, igniting anything flammable with his torch. The angry bald man, Jay Walker escaped next, pulling a concealed dagger from his pocket. He grabbed the peasant woman who'd shouted about her brother being in there. "You're! not my brother! What are you doing? Let me go!" Jay Walker only laughed. Next, the hobgoblin escaped. He grabbed a long sturdy tread and attacked the right Guard, wrapping the thing around his neck. The guard slowly lost consciousness." Finally, with help from his Po Brother-lookalikes, Bo Ba freed himself. He removed his brown gloves and let out a chuckle. "Let's go say hi to papa, boys. I'll be quite interested to hear why you're the only ones who came for me, and not his men." The Party had a chance to turn back and help the mob from its poor decision making, or continue to the Harbour (OoC: I'm only giving you this option because I don't have time to start the next encounter. If you still would like to continue to the harbour (I'm not pushing you to enter this battle) , then I'll start it up when classes let out.) -

OoC: Whoops, I meant to take those out. They were just to make sure I didn't kill anyone before/after the heals came. Galen's right. -

I'll update tomorrow. I'm really busy this week so it may go a little slower than I hoped. Sorry. You may get back before the 21st, but I don't think you'll escape me in time for any of the other currently-offered Quests. You will get out in time to buy an amethyst from the witch, though. -

"No, Regret, only imbeciles toy with their food." "Alright men, I regret to inform you that this is not going to be a fast battle." grumbled Sylph, unamused. "And we shouldn't bank on luck, because obviously Mercutio dislikes us. We're switching things up. Alex! Lights out, mate.... But keep attacking us! You can target us with heals to occupy our free attacks, or maybe summon that angel of yours. This could go one of 2 ways, so heed my words. Assuming you don't hurt yourself too badly this round, Galen, we may pull this off yet." correct me if I'm wrong, but Alex can't do anything but target an ally while hexed, right? -
No worries! This has probably been my favorite Quest yet, no offence to previous QMs... And don't you dare think you can TPK us now! 62, I hope I didn't intimidate you by having you make hard choices about your priorities. I was worried about how this race against time would effect morale since the early drafts. I hope it's not perceived as stressful. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

"Well, That's a bit fuzzy. Let's have Hal go before you Galen, just in case. Odds are though we'll snap the string and won't have to worry too much about invoking the free-hits. By the Regret's strategy I get the feeling he's still toying with us. He's a fool to think war is a game." Hey 62ers, sorry to burst your bubbles, but even though we're getting pretty close to the end, you'll probably be stuck with me for another week or two (I don't expect it to go way over unless there's a sudden drop in participation or you opt for every distraction on your way to the Harbour... or tying-up loose ends takes longer than I expect.), so I don't think you'll be in the Hall to sign up for the new quests. But don't worry, I'm in the same boat with Endgame's endgame. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

The crowd rushed the cart, lifting and pushing the thing. A loud crack was heard as the front axle broke, the left wheel falling off. The overwhelmed and knocked-prone guard pleaded with the angry mob. "Stop! These are bad men! That's Bo Ba, the ambitious son of the were-raven mob boss! That's 'The Arsonist,' responsible for burning down a church in some strange pagan ritual! That Hobgoblin's a murderer! And that bearded fellow is none other than Jay Walker, the serial child rapist! They're being shipped to the court district to be tried and hanged!" "No more of your lies!" commanded a stout rioter. "These men are freedom fighters like us that you've unjustly imprisoned! Your Lord and the Hinckwells have been conspiring against the people of this city, and it's time the voice of Sailor's Haven was heard once again!" he bellowed, greeted by several cheers from the crowd. They continued to try and capsize the cart, the Po Brother lookalikes joining in. OoC: I'll wait for Karie before I send you off. -

"How inconveniencing." Grumbled Sylph. "Alright men, we've got to get rid of that string now. We may end up taking a few unneeded hits as a result, I'm afraid, but if we have any luck at all, this full-on assault should snap it. Rome, rest easy, we'll fix you up next round unless I do so this round with the roots of life. Tragically you won't be encouraged any more, and I'll have to recast the sealing spell, but apart from that we should be fine. Regret is a fool to shoot-to-kill like that instead of protecting his arm. Sure it payed off for him, but that's simply chance. If your sword had made it through, he wouldn't be sitting quite as pretty now... Although I must commend him in only defending with the sleeping claw. He means to do us a good bit of damage. Ultimately though it's a half-wasted gesture. He should be entirely on the offensive this round." Well put, Flipz. I myself am a fan of 'Grey on Gray' morality. My own character tragically is not really grey morally, but I am trying to capture the feel in my current quest, at least. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

I'm glad you mention time. Let me explain so that you don't get frustrated with me in the future. Technically, you've already fulfilled your job requirement, which was to catch or cripple the rumour spreader. Since the city is rioting, your journey to the Harbour may be interrupted by several obstacles such as this one. You have to get to the Harbour by 5 to stop Fleur from escaping with the cloth. it takes about 30 minutes or so to get to the Harbour from here. It's around 4:17. I'll let you do almost anything you want to: You can run before battles start, (heavens forbid ) split the party, engage in combat, search for the dopplegangers after catching Fleur, go to the opposite side of town to get fruit smoothies, whatever, but keep in mind that if you don't get to the Harbour at 5, you'll miss catching the ship. Actions (and in-actions) will have consequences . -

"Then I suppose we cursed beings shall remain at each-other's throats for until then." Whispered Sylph to his foe. "I'm sure you'll enjoy the planet more when everything on it's bleached and dead Regret. It'll fit your sunny disposition..." "Oh, but Regret, you make this too easy for me. You hope to deter me from attacking your wounded claw by empowering it? You've simply made it a better target. Do try." Sylph taunted grimly. "You'd do better to defend it." he suggested. Yes, you could, but a key part of the Minstrel class is the songs, and if one song is used in the round, then no other actions (apart from using consumables, I imagine) can take place. Odds are you're not going to want to only attack twice. It's sort of like a cleric being either able to attack twice while hastened, or able to heal once. I'm not complaining though. It makes sense. But it takes away half of the incentive to be hastened. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

So there's little reason for a minstrel to be hastened? How disappointing. (Sorta, it still rocks, it's just not as OP as I thought) Whelp, change of plans. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

The party hastily made their way from the alley, leaving Dice and his companion to tend to themselves and escape the riotous city. The party found the Market road again, but arrived on an unfortunate scene.... In the street, an armed cart carrying chained prisoners attempted to move through the rowdy crowd. “My brother’s in there!” one peasant shouted. “I’m innocent!" Cried a prisoner. "The Lord me trapped in here just for stealing a loaf of bread for my sister's starving daughter!” Cried another. “Come and see the violence inherent in the system!” cried a dirty peasant as he was pushed away from the cart by a guard. “Help! Help! I’m being repressed!” Cried a prisoner. In the crowd, the party could make out two were-ravens who looked identical to the Po Brothers, but who both carried crooked scimitars. In the cart sat another smug were-raven, a hobgoblin, a red headed bald man, and a mad looking man with fiery eyes. The two guards were overwhelmed, they waved their torches and spears at the crowd, but they wouldn't budge. It looked as if they were going to topple the cart. -
