Gotham City Mafia: Conclusion
XimenaPaulina replied to ADHO15's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
I think one should differentiate "member treatment" within the game and outside the game. I'd take myself as an example, I called/"joked about" the player/characters The Riddler (Gotham) and Siegmund (Isla Paradisa) stupid within the context of the respective games. But have you seen me throw out the same insulting words to both EB members sok117 and smittyfan outside the game thread? NO - because there is a clear difference between playing the game and treating others outside the game. Both are Internet/online/computer activities, but "Internet tact" is imperative only in the latter's case. Within an online game it's one's prerogative on how he/she will conduct handle himself/herself, and if the situation calls for it, you could use any valid and legal tactic (as long as it is not cheating) to your advantage, like what def did. If I may give a real-life example, it's equivalent to trash-talking in sports. I give and receive my own fair share of trash-talk in ballgames, and what I learned is that the moment you let these harsh insulting words affect you you're bound to lose the game. But if you remain calm and cool, and "let your game do the talking", then the trash-talk will backfire to your opponent. Remember the goal of the trashtalker is to get under your skin, and if you get annoyed then you let him win, if not then he loses - simple as that. That's what K-Girl did when the Fantabulous Kresmo was pressuring her in BB2. I guess this comment is specifically pointed at me when I questioned Rumble Strike not responding to my PM right away. You weren't aware of the nature of my crucial and important question to him, and him not responding right away simply put suspicion on him. If he was innocent he could've answered right away, but the long gap between reading it and responding really made me suspect him. And it turns out I was right since I read in their scum writeboard that he indeed "asked for advice from his teammates" on how shall he respond to that crucial PM. If he was just simply reading other threads, leading his quests, etc. then I would've understand, but ultimately I was right about my suspicion on him. -
Just got 10215 - Obi-Wan's Jedi Starfighter @40% off the SRP. Expect a review on the horizon, it's time to defend this much-maligned UCS set.

LEGO Star Wars 2012 Pictures and Rumors
XimenaPaulina replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Thanks for sharing these grogall and brickbuilder! I noticed that also, and correct me if I'm wrong but the wings aren't supposed to open that wide right? One thing I like is that it seems the opening mechanism was completely altered so that the wings can be fully opened with just one turn of the rear knob (unlike in 6212 wherein you have to rotate the knob several times). But the drawback with this new set-up is it seems there will only be one wing opening angle, which makes 6212 better in that aspect IMO since you could control the angle of the wings to your liking. -
Wuh? Frodo's legs aren't visible in the preview image, hence Mr. Hobbestimus' speculation.

I also wonder why this issue of fleshie vs. yellow tones keep popping out of the discussion. Is the "Rule: Yellow = non-licensed themes, Flesh = licensed themes" really that hard to understand? Really? I think they would keep the standard minifig size for humans, and the short legs for the dwarves and hobbits.
-
That's why it's always good practice to set realistic expectations towards a certain licensed theme. Years and years of being a LSW fan has taught me to understand the limitations/restrictions the set designers had to work with to come up with a decent set with a right price-parts balance, and to fully realize that the higher price of a licensed theme like this new LOTR is simply a fact of our LEGO hobby. If we set ourselves with this mindset I think it wouldn't be too hard to appreciate what TLG will give us in this LOTR line. If I may guess a ballpark figure I think ~$300 for the whole first wave of sets is a good estimate. Though I have a bad feeling that there would be a tendency to hoard army-building type sets where Uruk-Hai and the likes are included. Any bright guesses on what the sets we'll be getting? Let the speculation begin!

Gotham City Mafia: Conclusion
XimenaPaulina replied to ADHO15's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
I think the "Internet-level thick skin" you're referring to comes with maturity and game experience. Just look at the behavior of all the scum when you pressured them in this particular game: Brickdoctor, Pie, and Flit were all relatively more composed and calmer than their "newer" teammates Nightshroud, Scorpiox, and Rumble Strike. This is a pretty good lesson for future scummies - to try your damned best not crack under pressure when you're put in the hotseat, otherwise it would be a massive scumtell. Just look the lone townie we lynched, Bane, even if he put up the infamous "wet toilet-paper strong" defense (sorry can't help it ) at least he didn't freak out like the others. And Doc is the prime example picture-prefect grace under pressure even if ultimately he didn't escape the lynch. People should NEVER EVER take any part of the game personally - it's just an online game afterall. I actually didn't see anything wrong with your words and tactics def, they were perfectly fine within the confines of the game. Yes it did get under the skin of the scum but it's their problem if they're onion-skin sensitive. Additionally, this facet of the game provides additional spice and flavor to liven the game thread and hopefully put more fun into it. -
LEGO Star Wars 2012 Pictures and Rumors
XimenaPaulina replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Ok guys, let's keep the discussions ON-TOPIC shall we? While I would've preferred a grey or black commando droid, I still welcome this new droid, and there is still the chance in the near future that we might get other colors for this droid. The brown color might've been based on The Citadel story arc during the third season, the same season where the ARC and ARF Troopers of the BP are based on. -
Pretty good start, you already got the first half right, and the remaining half shouldn't be a problem since it's almost identical in shape as the front one. Though I think you could do without the two tooth pieces in front, it "sticks out too much" IMO. Looking forward how you shall complete this one!

Great to see Samurai Vader-san get an upgrade and he now looks even more meaner and badass! Very well done once again Mood!

It's always a pleasant surprise to see refreshing takes on frequently-MOCed SW ships like the TIE Fighter, and this one certainly stands out with its more spherical cockpit, clever brick-built viewport, and SNOT wings. Great work!
-
I've always been a fan of Artifex's custom creations, and this Black Ops Gunship is one impressive fanon build IMHO - the overall Shadow concept is simply badass, add to that the plethora of highly playable features and even lighting functions. Understandably, such massively detail-jampacked custom build come at a premium price, which unfortunately is out of my price range and I tend to go with the "make-my-own-through-reverse-engineering" route, like what I did with my Batman Tumbler (based on Artifex's design). But for those who have the resources, I highly recommend getting this one as this is one of those custom SW builds worth getting for your collection.

I always admire your unique and very well-built Fanon MOCs HJR, and it's really refreshing to see rarely-seen Fanon vehicles like this two-legged version of the AT-TE. Great work once again! (and extra points for the Imperial logo mosaic)

Gotham City Mafia: Conclusion
XimenaPaulina replied to ADHO15's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
ADHO, I think you got my abilities wrongly. Those are my "inherited" abilities: Bright Intellect from sok and Fear Gas from Scarecrow. My starting abilities are (not the exact words): Action: Will Power - which allowed me to inherit the action of the last Criminal to leave the game. Use once. Skill: "I didn't mean to..." - gives me the ability to reveal my true allegiance on the next day if I choose to use it. Use only in the first night. -
Gotham City Mafia: Conclusion
XimenaPaulina replied to ADHO15's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Honestly I think you did very well, and was very instrumental for the Town. You and Alopex are those special cases where flying under the radar and not getting too much attention, combined with proper coordination of night actions, proved to be a good thing and NOT to be construed as a sheepish behavior. In fairness to all who shared their night actions with me, they didn't exactly quote the host word-for-word, so it was fine with me. With regards to me publicizing Brickdoctor's role claim to me and me asking in the game thread if it's worth penalizing him for that, I didn't actually see that as metagaming as Peanuts saw it. The way I interpreted it is it's one way of finding out if Brickdoctor's telling the truth, and I did so in the context of still playing my character within the bounds of the storyline. And in fairness to Doc he did make quite a convincing excuse, so convincing that it made me forget the fact that ADHO did not penalize him which would've meant he was lying and I would've been more convinced that he was indeed the last of the agents. -
Gotham City Mafia: Conclusion
XimenaPaulina replied to ADHO15's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
I couldn't agree more. I guess I made the right choice back when I intentionally did not sign-up for Baritones 3 and Belville Mafia when I was in the midst of a crucial adjustment in my life. It's just more fun to play when there isn't much distraction IRL. But ManBat was indeed the Tracker with his bat sonar ability and Mr. Freeze was the blocker who could freeze his target. So there are abilities which are obviously tied up to the characters ("Killer" Croc = vig, Baby Doll = innocent child), while others are quite obscure. -
Gotham City Mafia: Conclusion
XimenaPaulina replied to ADHO15's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Just finished reading the scum writeboard, it was a FUN READ alright! Like what I've said to def before somewhere, I initially thought you were the "worstest scum team ever", but after knowing what happened to you guys behind the scenes, it seems half of your failure was due to extremely BAD LUCK (your converter getting lynched on Day 1, your kills failing or your targets getting protected, etc), and the remaining half is probably due to your inexperience in defending yourselves when put in the hotseat, made much worse by the vicious unforgiving pressuring by def. I could understand what you had to go through, and I don't think I would've fared better if I were in your shoes (though I would've been more Brickdoctor-like than Scorpiox-like ). But no need to be ashamed in your performance if you know within yourselves that you did your damned best, especially considering almost all of you are first-time scummies. The notable players for me are: def - 'nuff said! Brickdoctor - I agree with def, you were the best scum in your team, and I really wasn't convinced even when we lynched you. You really did a good job in acting as a proactive Townie and even making up your convoluted night actions to trick me! You've really redeemed yourself from your past 2 mafia game performances and I'm happy to see that. Tammo - You've really come a long ways since our student days in Isla Paradisa, and I'm proud to see of your vast improvement in this game. Even if we've not really communicated in this game like in previous games, I'm glad to see you somehow shedding off your "Belville ghost". Too bad you were converted as I would've wanted you to win with the town. And a couple of apologies, first to sok for the "Stupid joke", and to Peanuts for my wrong suspicion on you (the same goes to Masked Builder, which I was also utterly wrong about). I guess my scum-reading skills still need a lot of "refining". -
Gotham City Mafia: Conclusion
XimenaPaulina replied to ADHO15's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
First of all, I would like to thanks our gracious hosts, The Penguin and ADHO15, for letting me play in this game. One of the things that I really liked about this game is that I learned A LOT in terms of knowing more about the Batman Universe, particularly the background stories of each character. The comic-style presentation of the story was also unique and true to the Batman theme. I also laud the double-host set-up, which both of you have done pretty well coordinating stuff even when you're in different parts of the world. Good job to the both of you. Second, I also appreciate all the players I've played with and against this game - town, scum, and Independents alike. I honestly never expected I would have THIS SO MUCH FUN playing in a mafia game - probably because we're winning, but it was a surprisingly GREAT EXPERIENCE playing with all of you guys, most of whom I've never played with in a game before. This game would've been half-less enjoyable without you guys. And thanks to def, for being a true leader and "mafia player role model", I learned a lot just by interacting with you and observing your tactics and hearing out your wisdom with regards to the game. More feedback with regards to the particulars of the game later... -
Same here, I've noticed this slow page loading difficulty in the past couple of weeks actually. I initially thought it might've been just poor connection by the ISP here in our place, but then when I browse others sites I don't experience the same problem. It's not really that much of a big issue, as I only experience it for a short while (around 30-45 mins), then it disappears. Though it seems to occur randomly, and I have not observed it the past two days, unlike others who reported to have experienced it today.

LEGO Star Wars 2012 Pictures and Rumors

Wow, I'm very impressed with this LDD MOC, from the interesting building techniques (brick-built sails), wonderful interior design, two accompanying desert skiffs and even custom minifigs too! Excellent work!
