Mafia Mafia: Day One - Day One
XimenaPaulina replied to Zepher's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
I guess it has something we do with the "open-game" set-up of the predicament we're in, compared to other similar games situations where there were usually a lot of discussions regarding the game mechanics on Day 1. Or it might be just people are waiting for others to start talking and hoping someone will slip-up along the way? Whatever the reason may be, the uncomfortable silence this early isn't an encouraging sign for the town, so I hope the discussions (and subsequent mud-slinging) will start to pick-up soon! -
Mafia Mafia: Day One - Day One
XimenaPaulina replied to Zepher's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
It's already difficult associating individuals with no actual names, but for their names to be "mafia roles" may become confusing at times, especially since I'm trying find out what everybody's roles are.. but wait, is that even my actual role? I guess that's one 'fun aspect' of this game, but I'd rather call people by their specific (Eurobricks) names, the details of which I found out with my cleverly cunning investigative skills. Sorry Mr. Werewolf, but it will be Eurobricks Mafia all over again for me. -

Not only is the MOC brilliantly done but the overall presentation is also something to behold, looking at the pics (especially the second one) it's as if you are really inside a Geonosian droid factory. Exceptional job as always AC!

Awesome MOC as always ISC! I really like the touch of realism with the overall industrial look of the refinery in this fictional world of Ryloth. Great job! Should've been 1st place IMO.

Honestly I got fooled at first glance of the pics I thought this was already a real MOC, so great render job! And even greater MOC! Your UCS TIEs have always fascinated me, and this certainly is right up in the alley with all your previous TIE MOCs. I don't think I can suggest anymore improvements, it's perfect for me already. And contrary to Mood's comments, I kinda like the fact that there are still visible studs in the build, which still gives it a LEGO look amidst the overall smooth SNOT design. Clever use of the drill piece too! Was this the first time you used this piece for your TIE/D designs? Good to see you MOCing again Walter, and looking forward seeing this in real brickbuild. Great job and keep it up!

LEGO Star Wars 2013 Pictures and Rumors
XimenaPaulina replied to Erdbeereis's topic in LEGO Star Wars
We won't exactly know until we have the official parts list from the instructions to compare with the 2008 version. But judging from the comparison pic below I'd say the difference in parts are only minor, so you may be able to use approx. 80% (just an estimate) of the 2008 AT-TE if you decide to update. What would be interesting to know is the differences in design of the interior and the structural base/"skeleton" (it seems the new one is shorter, and hence looks appropriately bulkier). If you just want to update your old AT-TE then it would be better if you BL the parts, and you'd be able to use the $90 on other purchases. But if you're a clone army builder then it might be worth getting this new one. -
Gotham City Mafia had all players with, not one, but two actions/abilities each IIRC. It was interesting to say the least, though in hindsight it was a bit overwhelming for the scum to overcome an overpowered town. I hope that doesn't happen here with a similar night action-centric format.

Post about Cartoons and Anime you like
XimenaPaulina replied to Peppermint_M's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Currently watching One Piece - Episode 38 (out of freakin' 595 and counting... ) I'm not even 10% of the way I know this will already be an EPIC series. This just reaffirms that Japanese animation is the best in the world (at least for me). I've watched other cartoons (Western) but nothing really compares to the story-telling, silly humor coupled with tear-jerking moments, visuals, etc. to animes like Death Note, DBZ, Yu-yu Hakusho, Slam Dunk, and now One Piece. And I haven't even started with other critically-acclaimed animes like Cowboy Bebop, Fullmetal Alchemist, Bleach, Naruto... It looks like you're a fellow anime-lover Danny. I've heard great things about Cowboy Bebop but haven't watched it yet. That will probably be next in line after I catch up with 500+ more episodes of One Piece. It seems you have watched more anime than I have so I couldn't recommend much (and it seems you've already watched Death Note too, another classic), so after futuristic cowboys maybe you could try pirates in their ultra-long saga... -
Review: LEGO The Lone Ranger: 79106 – Cavalry Builder Set
XimenaPaulina replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Licensed
Indeed, the mini-barricade isn't "an insignificant, throwaway build", in fact you could build a pretty decent fort with about 5 of these sets: This image illustrates the army building potential of this set (and I haven't even shown the remaining horses and cannons).- 26 replies

Thanks for the additional feedback! Yeah, the safe on top does make the stagecoach even look taller than it should be, that's why in the comparison pic I intentionally removed it (by photoshop). It still looks out-of-scale but a bit better than with the safe on top. I understand your preference for the original build, I really wish I could've retained that curved shape at the bottom, so I guess that is one room for improvement for this mod. I'm pretty sure there are various ways and solutions to further improve this stagecoach, and I'd be happy to see others' take on this mod job.

Iron Man HulkBuster Mk. 2 Hanger & Hall of Armors MOC - WIP
XimenaPaulina replied to becauseBATMAN's topic in LEGO Licensed
I like the way you expanded the "Iron Man's Lab" instructions from TLG into a larger Hall of Armor, nice to see also variations in your Iron Man suits, I see lots of nice usage of minifig parts from different themes (CMF Robot head, Galactic Marine shoulder piece). The Hulk Buster does look like one badass machine, though probably a bit large? (but against the Hulk, the bigger/bulkier/stronger, the better). Too bad the images don't do justice to the quality of your MOC. Hope you find a way to take better pics soon! -
LEGO Star Wars 2013 Pictures and Rumors
XimenaPaulina replied to Erdbeereis's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Sorry it was just a personal opinion I just don't find the starfighter's design and black color scheme appealing, as well as the minifig selection. I was also not fond of the similarly-sized Republic Striker Starfighter last year, but at least that had awesome figs in Sateele Shan and Jace Malcolm (even the uniquely-designed astromech droid). -
LEGO Star Wars 2013 Pictures and Rumors
XimenaPaulina replied to Erdbeereis's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I'm happy that every now and then TLG gives us a new ship that isn't a rehash, and one that is visually-appealing that it makes us forget the likes of the Twilight, Bounty Hunter Gunship, T-6 Jedi Shuttle, and even the upcoming JEK-14 Starfighter and HH-87 Starhopper. This set is definitely a breath of fresh air and I'll probably pick this up along with the Fury. -
Excellent use of the Chima lion head - really clever! And great presentation too, well done!

Review Review: CREATOR 31009 Small Cottage
XimenaPaulina replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Thanks for sharing another high quality review Rufus! I'm always looking forward for your take on Creator sets. Curiously, despite the simple classic-Town look of this small cottage this has been on my to-buy list as I am quite fond of this set for a completely unrelated (and probably pointless) reason - it looks like it be a good 'bachelor pad' for my Sigfig (not only they bear an uncanny resemblance but also their fondness of sausages tee hee). I'll definitely pick this up along with the upcoming Family House and Tree House. And gotta love that NWU in the end (nice wiener usage!) -
So simple yet so beautiful! And ' love Prof. X's trans wheelchair! Great job Capt'n!

Curiously I did think of putting a 2x2 turntable to approximate the turning mechanism of the original model, but decided to forego it for two reasons: 1. It will elevate the stagecoach one plate higher (like what you mentioned) thus negating the purpose of the mod (even if only a bit). 2. I thought the ball-and-socket connection already serves the purpose of allowing freedom of movement for the horse-stagecoach set-up (right-left-up-down movement), so a second one may be redundant (though I assume the front wheel mechanism of the original model was based on the design of real stagecoaches). I'm sure there are still other solutions to have a working front wheel mechanism that may be worth exploring (like a -connection perhaps?) but in the end I was already satisfied with my initial mod so I didn't fix that issue (but I do encourage others to improve this mod further! ).

Thanks for the feedback guys! Yeah I wish I could've retained the U-shape of the stagecoach's bottom, but there are no current inverted curved slopes with a steeper curve angle than the 1x6 ones so that's one of the details of the original that were compromised in this mod. In fairness to the designers I think they just adhered with their standard design protocols - aesthetic accuracy, build stability, and working functionality/playability - which I honestly think they got a good balance of with the stagecoach in the set. The compromise in the relative size proportion is not something we haven't seen before in sets (e.g. oversized truck in Cosmic Cube Escape), so it's not really surprising. The mod that I made, even if the size is more realistic minifig-scale-wise, has its own share of compromises: the U-shape of the body became less pronounced, some build elements are not as stable as in the original (e.g. the red inverted curves at each side are only connected at the top without any connection at the bottom), and some functionality had to be sacrificed (front working wheel mechanism was removed to accomodate the smaller wheels), etc. At the end of the day, I made my mod as an AFOL who will be displaying this set on the shelf. On the other hand, the set designers obviously had kids in mind (since this is a toy afterall) so understandably they had to build a stable, playable, and nice-looking set that kids will enjoy playing.

Even before I got the 79108 Stagecoach Escape set, I already knew from the official set images and even from the earlier convention pics that the stagecoach would be a bit, actually not just a bit but quite oversized for minifig-scale. When I finally built the set, despite the visually-pleasing overall design of the stagecoach, I wasn't really fond of its glaring oversized proportions. So the natural thing for me to do was to modify it, and good thing with a little bit of scavenged extra parts here and there and some nice ol' building time, I was able to make some minor modifications that signifcantly improved its relative size with respect to the other elements (horse, minifigs): Modifications: First thing I changed was the wheels, downsizing both pairs to their next smaller sizes (back: 56mm --> 43mm diameter, front: 43mm --> 33mm diameter). I reduced the length of the stagecoach by two studs by removing one pair of doors (one door per side was enough IMO). I decreased the height of the stagecoach by 1 brick by removing the two huge curved cockpit piece underneath, plus another plate height at the top. I made the connection of the horses nearer to the stagecoach so they wouldn't be quite far as in the original model. I removed the "baggage launching mechanism" at the back and simply made the space as baggage storage. Here are some pics of the modified 79108 Stagecoach: Yeah I know, the differently-colored wheels are eyesores , but those are are the only ones I have at the moment until I get my BL orders. Do note that there is no dark tan 33mm-dia. wheel to match the the 43mm-dia. one used in the set, so if ever you're going to change the wheels bear in mind that the only matching colors for the 43mm-dia. and 33mm-dia. wheels are reddish brown or black. Here's a complete side view, where we could see better how the relative size, particulaly the height of the stagecoach, is now more realistic-looking. One compromise I had to make when I downsized the wheels was I had to change the front working wheel mechanism of the original model to this (unfortunately) more blocky version using standard wheel holders of CITY vehicles. This is the only part that I'm not much happy about, but there seems to be no other way to attach the small wheels using other parts other than this specific type of wheel holders. A quarter back view showing the simpler baggage storage area replacing the 'baggage launching mechanism' of the original model. The good thing about this mod is the interior space was retained and you could still comfortably seat two minifigs inside even with their bulky hair, hat, or headdress pieces. Also, the roof can still be detached/attached easily with the minimal studs of the connection point. Comprison of the Modified (left) and Original (right) 79108 Stagecoach Clealry you could see in this side-by-side comparison how much better the size of the modified stagecoach is compared to the original model. The good thing about this is majority of the overall design and details were retained despite the reduction in size. Reference Pic of a real Stagecoach: Overall Thoughts: I am very satisfied how this mod turned out, and now I could happily display the stagecoach knowing it suits my visuals better. What's good about this mod job is it didn't require too many or too complex additional pieces, the parts used were quite common and the only part you may be needing are the two pairs of wagon wheels in the same color. For those who want to "fix" their 79108 stagecoach also, I prepared the instructions so you could do these modifications if you want to. Alternatively, for those who use LDD, here is the LXF file so you could see the virtual model of this modified stagecoach: LXF Modified 79108 Stagecoach by Kiel.Da.Man Note: Pls. kindly use the instructions and/or the LXF file 'responsibly'. Thanks. Thanks for looking! As always, comments, violent reactions are welcome! .
