Finally got around to taking pictures of mine Yeah, I know...technically it's a "Mutant Lizard", but the LEGO "Raptor" is a little too big to interact with Minifigs properly ;-)
-
Wow...I get a very Classic Space vibe off that. I'm sold!
-
Thanks for the pricing info...that's what I'd been waiting for
-
Sweet! I can play "Deadliest Catch" with my LEGOs
-
Wow...just...wow... Marx and Engles would be proud :-|

Eh...why the hell not?

Sorry I can't offer any construction advice, but that is one hell of a nice looking TYE-Wing Ugly! I especially like the changes to the front of the starboard engine nacelle. I've been meaning to whip some Uglies up for years, after seeing this one I may have some encouragement to actually get it done.

Dead and rotting should do it! *skull*

Hey, thanks all the same. I hadn't seen the new images yet. They may very well have been posted in the other thread, but I tend to ignore those gargantuan threads after the first 8 pages or so :P

Howsabout 2277? At least I got a number that's easy to remember. And that's in Florida, USA.

Hanging big scale models to the ceiling ??? tips
Deinonychus replied to mutex's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I've got a ton of stuff suspended from my ceiling. I've found most LEGO constructions hold up pretty well as long as you hang them with a sort of "sling" method, where you loop your hanging line around a large, solid structure (usually a fuselage). You can then tie a couple of stabilization lines to a wing or engine or something to keep it pointed in a particular direction or to keep it from spinning. The best hardware to use are small metal mug hooks that'll screw into the ceiling and hold strongly. If you really want to keep it low key you can use long T-pins that you can get at any sewing store or in a sewing section at most department stores. The trick with those is to put them in ceilings at slight angles so they don't pull straight out. They are also long enough that you can bend them to create hooks and loops. Once you pull them out, the holes they leave are barely noticeable. As to the line, personally I stick with a 20lb-test or 30lb-test fishing wire. That will hold just about everything since 99% of all LEGO sets weigh less then twenty pounds. -
Oh yeah, I said no less then 4 points, I'm under no illusions that four will be it :-D And thanks for the suggestions OOM-9, I'll defiantly print your post up and use it as a reference when, and if, I start the hanging process.

Correct! *y* Thanks for all the thoughts so far. The physical hanging issues won't be a problem. For everything I hang I use 30lb-test fishing line. That should work for the Falcon considering it would have to be suspended from no less then 4 points just so it won't spin, so the weight would distribute pretty well. If I get it into my head that that won't work I can graduate up to 50lb-test (what they use to catch small sharks). Doc Sinister, I'm glad you mentioned the possibility of the line cutting into the plastic. Where I don't think that'd be a huge issue, I think I may put some thin rubber tubing around the line where it contacts the ship as a "just in case" measure. ;-) Pulling out of the ceiling won't be a problem either. I've got some long screweye-hooks and an electronic stud-finder, that should anchor it pretty well. So, with all that pretty well set in my head, now all that remains is the warping issue...which it seems the jury is still out on
-
Well, I have the UCS Falcon sitting in it's box on the bottom of my to-build stack for two reasons. Firstly, I need a big chunk of time to assemble it. But most importantly, I have no surface big enough in my display room to properly show it off. I do, however, have a nice piece of ceiling space I could hang it from, but I have concerns. I know the Falcon's super-structure is designed so that it can be picked up and carried, but can it handle indefinite suspension? And if so, would the weight of that much LEGO cause the pieces to warp and bend? The biggest set I have hanging now is only 1000 +/- pieces and it's done fine for 4 or 5 years, but 5000 pieces is quite a few more, especially when I look at the slight bow droop of my UCS Star Destroyer (Which I have torn down and rebuilt once to correct) or the slight rightward lean of the UCS Death Star II. So, thoughts? Opinions?

I can apreciate what they did with the landing craft...shrunk it down a little to keep it within a reasonable price point. If that sucker was to scale it'd be freaking huge so I can forgive them ;-) the other sets look pretty damn cool to me...especially that Y-Wing...when I browsed these pics elsewhere first they were lumped in with older SW sets and I thought the Y-Wing was the UCS version and just glossed over it...now that's saying something
-
Hmmm... Designer + Alpha Team Mission Deep Sea x Vikings = Aquaraiders I'm eager to see the other sets now...that'll help me decide if these are gonna be worth the money as a complete theme or just worth getting a couple cool ones

People on a Megabloks forum want to know why...
Deinonychus replied to Echo's topic in General LEGO Discussion
That could be an issue. I only really started collecting Megabloks in early 2001 and since then I've never had any sort of quality problem with them. Although, I haven't bought a Megabloks set in over a year because it seems they've abandoned the Probuilder series in favor of more Dragons and Pyrates...sad really... But see...that's where stuff like the LEGO Boeing jet steps in to fill the void ;-) -
People on a Megabloks forum want to know why...
Deinonychus replied to Echo's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Jeez...I go away for one day and look what you people get into :-P Isn't it totally possible to honestly love BOTH LEGO and Megabloks? Well yeah, I'm living proof. I've never seen Megabloks put out a sweet set like the UCS Star Destroyer, just like I've never seen LEGO but out a set with quite the vibe as the Probuilder New York Fire Department ladder truck. There's enough room in the world for two great brick companies. If you don't like a set one of these companies puts out then just don't buy it. The only thing I take issue with are the immature, close-minded brand snobs who post stuff like "OMFG! megabl0x iz teh suXX0rz! id die b4 id even touch a megabl0x! Leg0 is teh rulz!!!1111!!111" Why don't you chime in as soon as you grow up okay? -
Those "Blocko" Bionicle bootlegs, finally on eBay.
Deinonychus replied to JINZONINGEN73's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Wow...knockoff Vahki! *wub* I'd love to get a whole bunch of these things, sadly they'll probably sell for more then the real-deal LEGO sets when all is said and done...unusual and interesting KOs always seem to do that. Perhaps I'll get lucky and these things will trickle into Big Lots, Dollar Stores, flea markets, and Easter basket sets over the next couple years -
So, modern military lego is out of the picture...
Deinonychus replied to Zarkan's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Personally I'd LOVE American Revolution or Civil War sets...but keep in mind LEGO is a worldwide toy provider...I don't think little kids in Luxembourg would get all that excited about a Battle of Yorktown Redoubt set. Builders in Australia probably wouldn't shell out money for a nice set of Lee at Marye's Heights during Fredericksburg... You'd have to something global (like the afore mentioned World Wars...which are out) or something heavily romantisized (like the wars between American Indians and the US Army of the Western Theme). So it's a great idea, just not realistic...although this did give me the idea to try and customize a General Robert E. Lee Minifig ;-) -
Snakes On A Plane?

Very Cool! *y* It's nice seeing the Virginia rendered in brick form

Holy Cats! That's one cool pair of customs! *y* I especially like the wrecked Tiger tank...nice touch This is also the kind of inspiration I'm goning to need when I finally set out to build the Panzer IV I've been meaning to build for a while now *sweet* -
Actually Ofnir is an established Norse creature. I'm not sure he qualifies as a "Dragon" so much as a serpent, but I think the two terms may be loosley related. He along with Sv
