LEGO could take a few cues from Playmobil insofar as a few themes go. Stuff like this Egypt theme holds some real possibilities from a building standpoint. The arcitecture of ancent Egypt just begs for the LEGO treatment. And speaking of begging, I want LEGO to give us a Hobo set And what's with that cop? Is he a member of the Kaiser's police force?

Vader's TIE Fighter modified to a TIE Crawler!
Deinonychus replied to Dark Sword Ragnarok's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Nahhh...you want cheaper and smaller, then you want the TIE Mauler -
I certainly haven't seen those little ones yet...my wife'll flip over that little house :-D

I'd be content with just yearly straight to DVD movies done by Ghost Animation, the same people who've been doing the CG for the Bionicle commercials...but a big blockbuster would rock as well

Where do you store your instructions?
Deinonychus replied to Plural's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I think this subject came up here a while back and I was inspired by someone's method... All separated by theme or type within a theme; like Star Wars is divided into Empire, Alliance, Republic, Sith, etc. Sad thing is...those drawers are almost full and I'm not sure I want to graduate to the 5 drawer cabinet -
It's fine the way it is. While I like the Orcs and Dwarves and Trolls...it's starting to get a little too Dungeons & Dragonsy for me. Personally I'd prefer they went back and concentrated on the Army of Darkness vibe with the Skeletons *skull*

Depends on what you consider "big" From a certain point of view, sets like the prison carriage could be considered big...or anything in the $20 - $50 range. But 7 new $100 castles wouldn't suck ;-)

Lego book published by Doring Kindersley
Deinonychus replied to Holodoc's topic in Culture & Multimedia
I'd defiantly recommend it. DK does a lot of really great books along these lines, and this is no exception. It's no in depth examination of the hobby or toyline, but it's concise and fun. Can't ask for much more then that -
I won a Batman caption contest like...a year and a half ago before I dropped off the face of the forums... I've done nothing noteworthy since so it has remained

Vader's TIE Fighter modified to a TIE Crawler!
Deinonychus replied to Dark Sword Ragnarok's topic in LEGO Star Wars
There always has to be one in the thread... I actually like the LEGO version better. It looks more like the pre-established images of the Century Tank I've seen since Dark Empire came out 16 years ago. I suspect a lot of the appeal of the custom job is the lack of blue. Removing the blue from a TIE and adding gray in its place changes the look considerably for the better...even if I have grown fond of the blue -
What was the last movie you watched?
Deinonychus replied to EbonHawk's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Cloverfield...it's a masterpiece of tension and action as long as you're not the type of person who insists that everything has to be explained to you and revealed in dramatic wide shots. I've only recommended it to people I think will get it ;-) -
the good things that TLC have done!
Deinonychus replied to hollisbrick's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Just about everything When something inspires enough passion that people spend hours on the Interwebs ranting about how its now being screwed up, well, there's no better indicator of something meaningful. LEGO has given us something we can enjoy doing and, as an extension, enjoy discussing with others who enjoy it. That's success. And, they gave the world the Minifig for crying out loud...that's Nobel Prizeworthy stuff on its own -
Where do you look for new lego sets or info??
Deinonychus replied to MrCustomizer's topic in General LEGO Discussion
What they said...Eurobricks is the place to look. Personally I keep also an eye on Brickset, simply because the info there is a little more distilled and better organized. No offense guys -
I think the Mine will be rolled out with the rest of the new Castle sets this spring seeing as its in all the listings. It almost seems as if LEGO is testing the waters for the new sets by releasing them as a couple of retailer exclusives first (The mine for Target, and the Wheel for TRU).

Wow...thanks a ton! Finally have a pic of the Creator Steg...and I'm in love *wub* I honestly don't think this is everything. Quite a few Star Wars and Batman, a Bionicle or two, and I believe I remember a couple more Coast Guard sets listed somewhere (like a platform of some kind). Plus, there's always the retailer exclusive holiday sets like Target usually gets. And does anyone but me think LEGO might be done with Exo-Force as a marquee theme?

I'm thinking you should stick with Luke and Artoo because Stealth Xs use the R9 series Astromech droids, and I really can't think of a good or clean way to modify the existing R2 series parts into an R9. Fortunately, R2-D2 was modified internally to be able to interface with the XJ/StealthX fighters, so that solves that. And putting Luke's head on a TIE pilot body and finding him a black helmet would work just fine I think.

My money is on the Makuta of Metru Nui...all the teasers are pointing to the end of 2008 being some sort of "climax".

I think the main roadblock here would be production capacity. Working up some new theme models, designing and printing the boxes and instructions, and passing everything through testing, QC, and copyright registrations would be pretty easy to do in a couple of months. The problems would come in with the manufacturing and packagings phase where, if a new series of sets had to be inserted, it could seriously throw off production of previously planned products and cause shortages in customer order commitments. Again, the nature of LEGO makes this less severe then if some other toy company had to do the same thing, but I'm sure its something they try and avoid. And you're right...all this speculating makes me really curious as to the down-and-dirty details of LEGO's production practices. Someone needs to write us a book laying it all out

Welcome to the wonderful world of internet message boards :-P Small sets would be nice again. I got half the McToran back in 2001 pretty much just expecting them to be cute little throw-away characters. Well, Maku and Onepu pretty much ended up that way, but look what became of Jala, Huki, Kongu, and Matoro. Although, I fully expect one-piece "figures" or some sot of little Bionicle themed gadgets

I can't really disagree with any points here. However I can't see any company continuing with a product line that has sales in the dumper after its initial release. A development cycle is just that...development. It's actual production that is tied more directly to what we see on the shelves. I'm willing to bet LEGO has scads of unproduced prototype sets for other themes we've never seen, probably right up to test-shot packaging and everything. I'd also imagine that it is probably a little easier for LEGO to kill an item and not loose too much money in the way of tooling costs because of the inherent properties of LEGOs. A new set might have one or two newly molded pieces...and even those can be rolled into a future design, so its not as if they'd be backed into a corner to release a set just to recoup their tooling costs. But now I'm getting into the dynamics of marketing versus manufacturing versus product development, and thats a whole other monster

Its no Azure Angel but it'll do! Great pics. I wasn't horribly impressed with the initial LEGO images, but your pictures of the actual set make it look much much better. I love the original JSF set so its great to see the design sort of carry on here in 2007. The new style with the Clone Wars minifigs looks as if it has potential. If nothing else it's something new. *y*

Okay, so... Trike-Tank: Check New Parts: Check Targetmaster: Check Fighter Module: Check No Bionicle weapons pressed into service as vehicle armament: Check I think we have a winner! I also really like those sloped vent pieces. Those are going to make for some very nice accent pieces in the near future. It's a shame that Exo-Force's story is so super-simplistic and underdeveloped, because it would be interesting to learn of the evil Robot's reactions to the new Exo-Froce transforming weapon robots, or if they might even be overhauled robot prisoners or something

Yeah, I also forgot to mention that with the two new Mars sets it looks the same way. Now, Batman is an interesting exception. The initial release was in April '06 with four sets from about $10 to $50, then two lager sets that same July in the $70 to $90 neighborhood as well as a single TRU exclusive at around $70 +/-. I had thought LEGO had abandoned the license until the 2 new sets came out this summer, a year after the last releases, and at relatively high price points. Now there's rumor of four new sets later in '08. So, all this could have to do with the nature of Batman being a licensed line and LEGO wanting to get the most of their investment instead of giving up outright. It could also be their strategy to simply "maintain" the license until this summer when a related movie will be out that will help push sales of the LEGO sets. In the end its always about taking just enough risk so that you make a nice chunk of money without losing your tail

They did something similar with Alpha Team Mission Deep Sea a few years back. I think, more likely they gauge how well a theme has sold in its initial run and then do one of three things; release a whole new wave, release a couple more supporting sets, or stop producing it outright. I don't know about anyone else, but I've noticed Aquaraiders becoming shelfwarmers in addition to not moving very well even after first release, so I'd personally be surprised (yet pleased) to see more sets in that theme.
