  1. I think what's being overlooked here is that if you step out of Bionicle sets a moment, you'll realize there's TONS of (dark) purple in the other Lego lines, a few of them even being Technic. But then again, I speak from a mocing standpoint, not an official character one.
  2. I was going to vote "purple", but already having a lot of classic purple, I can honestly say it looks like poo next to the newer "dark purple". The old one is too... I dunno, hot pink looking or something. The newer one is so much more ominous. So... I voted teal.
  3. I bought two of Star Wars set 7670. Man, what a bargain for only 20 bucks each. The brown tank treads (80 link pieces!!!) are the best part, but the rest is quite nice too. You get 2 big, clear shields. 3 of the new Battle Droid guns. 1 brown turret ball. 4 of those gas pump-lookin' parts that can double as minifig guns. ...and the second best thing, 8 of those mecha fingers in brown. I'm not a fan of brown, but these will surely lead to a very cool brown moc.
  4. Lol, we're opposites. I voted they should die... because even though I LIKE some of their parts, to me, the designers appear to have very little talent... and it is steadily decreasing. Yes, of course it should stay around as long as it's making money. Dammit. >__< But the second they go into the red, I'd like to see them replaced in place of something superior with an entirely new creative team at the helm. (Some japanese guys or well established mocers in there couldn't hurt...)
  5. I don't play with them, not as the intended models. Buy. Look at the parts. Then it's pretty much straight into my color-sorted bins. It's usually a LONG time after that when the parts find their way into mocs. They're butt-ugly and unfinished looking as sets.
  6. I have a pretty good feeling about this new season. I think it'll pick me up from the mild terribleness of last season. Lol, anyone else's ears pop up when they start playing Owen's theme music in Torchwood? In the episode where he raided the old man's house... that music was almost on par with Rose's tragic music in "Doomsday". And now it's like, every time he pops up in an episode (or someone's even talking about him lol) ...there's HIS music. Powerful stuff. And, just like the Ood, this BETTER not be just because they already had the expensive computer model on hand from Torchwood's giant wasp episode. I kid you not... at some point in the future I will have real money. Along with that, a house with a nice garden area. And inside THAT, there will be a replica of the 4 angels all staring at each other.
  7. Never having got the Bionicle minifigs, I was totally unaware until now that the heads weren't compatible with System minifigs! What was Lego thinking? I mean... why try to stunt the beauty of cross-promotion? Minifigs without minifig neck connections? Horrendous failure. Anyway, thanks for mentioning that the standard necks are 3/16ths. Much customization can take place with such knowledge. *sweet*
  8. Blah, I'd be citing a million different titles if I were to go too in-depth. So I'll just say what I'm intrigued by right now. Currently enjoying "Kino's Adventure" on the Anime Channel. (On-Demand cable is AWESOME). As for manga, though it updates VERY infrequently, "GantZ" seems to be the shit. They don't hold back on the awesomeness and the dynamic, 2-page spreads are to die for.
  9. Anyone else yawning at the prospect of this one? I mean ok, fine. They have a budget and the costumes have already been perfected. Do we REALLY need to know more about them? (Besides, can this story really beat the one they premiered in? I mean hell, a giant, CGI SATAN was controlling them! ...Now we're going to get some humanitarian, "slavery is bad duuuuuuurrr" type episode?) I was under the impression already that their slavery had been a long-conceived plan of that Satan to free himself eons later.
  10. Bah. Nothing a little mocing can't cure.
  11. I could sit here and list artists and songs and whatnot, but I'll keep it simple. I was born in 1973, but I never really LIKED any music genre until the 90's, when really good techno started hitting my ears. Yeah, there's tons of "techno" genres out there, and I like almost all of them. Likewise, I used to live within range of a few college stations in New Jersey (Rutgers and Princeton), and used to LOVE the "experimental" music they'd play from time to time. In particular, there were hour-long blocks of what can only be called static. It drives my cousin and my wife batty listening to it, but I find it as entertaining as listening to some high-quality, expensive production. Breakbeat techno is high on my list. Things with TONS of illegally ripped samples made into something humorous is the best. Anyway, here's my songlist playing on Myspace: GWAR - Maggots Blue Six - Music and Wine Michael Jackson - Scream Kate Bush - Experiment 4 Guano Apes - Lord of the Boards Indigo Girls - Kid Fears (live) Tipsy - Space Golf Pizzicato Five - Good Yoko Kanno - Cats on Mars Cibo Matto - Sugar Water Pet Shop Boys - Yesterday, When I Was Mad Lil Louie Vega - French Kiss (lol, I added that one on just to turn heads) Peter Gabriel/Kate Bush - Don't Give Up And if you know all those songs listed by heart... wow.
  12. Out of curiosity, what color are these parts that are snapping which some of you are experiencing in the current sets? I kinda' thought it was a Lime / Orange thing mostly.
  13. A topic or two is okay to let people complain in, but I imagine merging complaints into a single topic is a good way to deal with glutting a board up with hyper-negativity. Even if it was a Galidor forum, I'd still only let 1 to 2 topics slamming it be allowed. And as Hinckley said, if a single person is going all crazy overkill with it, they'll get squished.
  14. Are we talking this kind of problem? http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1333558 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1333560 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1333561 If so, this has been going on since the inception of that color.
  15. Also don't forget that large Creator mecha they did a few years ago that implemented minifig legs as fingers. :-D They NEVER would've done that if a million billion Brickshelfers hadn't made it the standard. It's such a non-Lego thing to officially do.
  16. Well, I'd like 2 or 3 Krika sets. The rest... meh. Some good panel fairings, but...
  17. That's exactly what I hate about American movies. The "hero" ALWAYS has to have a love interest... to bring in the girlfriends to the theater. The Batman series was ridiculous for this... first movie... Vivki Vale... second movie... he's banging Selina Kyle, etc etc. Tripe. Absolute crap. I want a season of Doctor Who where he either: A. Doesn't act in pain because he's falling for another chick. B. He stays strong with his love for Rose / gets back with her. I know he's all "lonely" now, but geez... these last three Doctors sure seem to have a hard time keeping it in their pants. It's like all the teenage testosterone missing from the previous Doctors got injected into the last three. Enough already lol. Make me "care" about something different than just who he wants to bang.
  18. http://www.sylvestermccoy.com/ I think I'll keep Sylvester's site away from my wife. It'll ruin the fun for her (of Rose returning) to know as much as they put on there. Of course, she'll probably go searching for it all on her own anyway once the new season kicks in. Hey wait... is it this week? On a side note, that K9 Adventures kiddy show (made by megablocking DISNEY?!?!?!?) really seems like it's going to be a large quantity of rabbit feces. Also, LOL at what Doctor Who MIGHT have become. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml.../16/nwho116.xml A guy having an LSD trip in an invisible flying saucer while trying to undo the future because he hates scientists and inventors who erase the past?
  19. http://brickimage.net/viewPost.php?ID=10 It's a bit rough around the edges, less easy interface for uploading content than Brickshelf or Flickr... but hey... another place to back up your stuff, y'know? Hopefully they'll tweak it greatly to have more functionality. Unfortunately, they chose a very Bricklink-like format for topics and posts. (Flickr still seems like the numero-uno of coolness... for me, anyway).
  20. Mmm hmm. As I thought. Not a Japanese face to be found in that lineup. Now, it's not really racism, but can it be denied that the Japanese have a certain knack for making robot-type stuff look really good? In any case, any interaction with the fans that lead to Lego getting input straight from the people who moc is good. ::clicks link:: ... ... ...Uh, do you have to have an account there to ask a question? I used to have one, until the site glitched up and locked me out forever.
  21. Yeah, separate pics of each part to the overall model would help. I'm trying, really trying to get a grasp on what's going on... but there's too many colors in use... it's hard to define where one thing ends and another starts... in a bad way, not a Forrest Gump way. I do give kudos on the fact you A. Actually tried to tell a story and B. Actually tried to build an actual structure for that contest. Alot of the other kiddies just tossed Technic parts into a wood chipper and shot it at their mocs. But yeah, too many colors. I know it might seem hard to do, but practice making guys out of no more than 2 colors. Pretend that the "core" of your moc is a guy who's 1 color, and that the second color is his armor.
  22. YAAAAAR, I'm a Rebel Admin! I have no idea what that means... but I LIKE IT! ... ... ...YAAAAAR!
  23. If I'm not mistaken (and I could be!), electronic items like this are usually held together not JUST with tabs, but with a small amount of glue specifically designed for the type of plastic used. Yeah, you might get lucky and get one who has so little glue that it pops off with some manual dexterity with the 4 pins, but more than likely there'll also be a glue bond at a point or two along the seam. Applying too much glue at the factory might also be a cause of problems with a certain run of them (as well as too little). Again, there may be no glue at all, but I've seen many a similar item assembled this way.
  24. I sure am! X-D They're a drastic improvement from the Blobnuva masks, though not very indicative of the characters they represent. But still, decent mocing parts. Except for Gali's asymmetrical one perhaps. The goal of a true protector is either survival or the restoration of peace. The current maladies you're describing are strictly big, giant piles of extreme peril... the goal to "fighting" being merely survival. The old way could still have violence, but the end goal was to restore peace and let the matoran go back to living their daily lives and flourishing in culture. Right now it all seems like just a handful of action figures being smashed together by a kid in a sandbox. Before, it seemed more immersive somehow. You got the fights but then got to be involved with what the fighting was even for. You can do the all-out brawling stuff a season or so, but then it just gets mundane. Deep doesn't have to be measured by how tangibly earth-shattering and cataclysmic a situation is. Reason being, earth-shattering and cataclysm can be all from one's perspective. A girl (matoran? lol) could wake up every morning in a war-torn world, pick up her gatling gun, then lackadaisically go about her day making the heads of invaders explode. Simultaneously, that same person could wake up in the morning, put a flowerpot out on the windowsill, then have some large invader tromping around send it smashing to the ground, good story telling and story board conveying the emotion of her cracking from the disruption of peace, of having something even THAT simple stolen from them. Now, I'm not saying Bionicle should be about girls tending flowers lol, but "the world's screwed AGAIN" doesn't automatically make something "deep". Especially not when it's "the world's screwed again THIS year TOO!". Violence doesn't mean beans in a story unless: A. the violence is SO brutal that it satisfies a ton of different curiosities at once. B. the purpose to the violence is conveyed well enough to make someone care that it is returned when the violence has served it's purpose.
  25. EXACTLY. The matoran of old were in desperate need of saving and being protected, but then you start seeing they're NOT so defenseless, that they can fight back by using their brains ...being as heroic as the Toa. Now? They're Toa and the Toa are just... dumb. Before, the matoran were in real, scary peril. It seemed like every walk outside your hut to pick berries could mean some infected creature would jump out and eat you. Strong emotions there! Very savage stuff! Now? ... ....ugh. No. I see the new characters as I do professional (FAKE) wrestlers... really cheesy. I see their "quest" no more deep than Goku in Dragonball Z spending 900 episodes in restoration / training chambers while his friends go out looking for dragonballs. Unfortunately, professional wrestling and DBZ both had their fair share of popularity among the masses, so there's obviously profit to be had in being as retardedly brainless as those are. Doesn't mean I can stomach it, but hey, 99.5% of what's considered "popular" in western culture sickens me all to hell. Sweet heavens no! My interest diminished when the story began blowing megablocks. My interest diminshed when they got "nuva" masks, which were all similar blobs of melted goo that were NEAR-WORTHLESS for mocing unlike how the 2001 ones were. My interest diminished when they released the first movie. As for flash animations costing alot... I can't disagree more. Look at Newgrounds.com and see the stuff LIGHT YEARS ahead of what Lego's mini-movies were... done by guys in their leisure time between going out drinking and waking up for school / work. It's like, if you want a hammer, you go to the store and buy maybe a good $10 hammer. If the GOVERNMENT wants a hammer, they get a contract for thousands of them, take a few bribes, and the taxpayers end up paying $200 for one. Same with Lego. They COULD technically spend alot on someone doing flash animations again, but they also might be stuck in some exclusivity deal to only do business with certain animation houses who cost an arm and a leg. Flash is REAL cheap.
