This is where we just fundamentally disagree. Frankly, we couldn't disagree more. Your stance is that it HAS to be a zero sum game -- i.e. one party wins and the other party loses -- whereas I believe that there is a situation where it can be win / win for everyone. If TLG after making all their assessments feels that they must have the SDCC exclusive system (something which I don't buy for a minute -- and I will never actually cede this point -- but for the sake of argument, let's just assume this for a second) -- well then go ahead -- have exclusives. But there are plenty of viable solutions: 1) print very specific "SDCC 20xx" stamped figs designating for each convention -- it gives each attendee who snags these convention swag or 2) release these exclusives -- even if a couple of years later, etc. etc.

This is a very fair comment and in fact I absolutely encourage it. Pro or Con, it helps raise awareness within TLG that this is an important issue that their customers care about. Nearly all issues have different sides, the discussion / debate is what is most important IMO. Nothing is worse than being irrelevant. Having said that, I am very confident that any fair and objective assessment of this situation will clearly side with the "con" SDCC exclusive side and further that any "pro" argument, if anything, will only serve to highlight the inequity of this system. I certainly feel the "pro" argument hardly has a leg to stand on, and that the more you say it out loud, the more you realize that it doesn't make any sense.

Is that a new Captain America or is it part of the SY Cap set? That head looks different from any of the Cap's....? -

Do you have any build details for the Hall of Armor? Do you happen to have a Lego Digital Designer file by any chance? -
Bootleg Super Heroes minifigs - worth it or not?

Honestly man, I couldn't even begin to tell you which suits came from where for my final builds (nearly each on is a mix / match of DC and SY -- I basically "cherry picked" the best parts). But having said that -- I think I can do you even one better. There is a blogger that covers these Chinese makers and he has done an absolute comprehensive job as to which makers have come out with which builds (even has a visual legend). Let me reach out to him and see if you doesn't mind if I link it or post a reference here. -

Bootleg Super Heroes minifigs - worth it or not?

I just got these. I'll try to post some pics, but my first priority is to incorporate / swap out some parts to some of my existing builds. I will post a bit later. I will say that I am quite happy with the Mark 1 helmet and will be using that for my own MOC Mark 1 (pictured in my Avi). What's curious is that as mentioned above the Nightclub armor's shoulder are indeed "rounded", but some are not, such as Midas which has the sharp corners. I needed this set for a few other things as well -- the bright red Mark 4 which has never been released and a few other bits and pieces. Overall for the price I paid? I'm pretty happy. EDIT So here is a picture of all my Iron Men as promised (this includes TLG official figs -- MK 6, 7, 17, 42, WM, IP) as well as a mix of DeCool and SY (I've cherry picked the best parts of all 4 series -- DC 1, 2 and SY 1, 2). I love the Mark 1 mask, I've incorporated into my purist build. You can also see the new "rounded" corners on the Mark 16 "Nightclub". Front Row (L to R): Mark 1 (I) "Flamethrower" Mark 2 (II) "Prototype Flight" Mark 3 (III) "Red and Gold 1st Appearance" Mark 4 (IV) "MK III Suit Upgrade" Mark 5 (V) "Suitcase" Mark 6 (VI) "Triangular Arc" Mark 7 (VII) "Circular Arc - Fully Loaded" Middle Row (L to R): Mark 16 (XVI) "Nightclub" Mark 17 (XVII) "Heartbreaker" Mark 21 (XXI) "Midas" Mark 33 (XXXIII) "Silver Centurion" Mark 35 (XXXV) "Red Snapper" Mark 38 (XXXVIII) "Bleeding Edge" Mark 39 (XXXIX) "Gemini" Back Row (L to R): Mark 40 (XL) "Shotgun" Mark 41 (XLI) "Bones" Mark 42 (XLII) "Extremis" War Machine Iron Patriot -
Do you think pissing off large portions of their customer base was in the Power Point presentation? And if you are right, why did LEGO decide to increase the supply of SDCC Exclusives this year? By your logic they should keep the number stable or even reduce it. Everything you wrote is sheer conjecture. In point of fact, it seems that TLG has responded to the criticism surrounding the SDCC fiasco last year by increasing supply and also releasing figures that are less well known / non-household names. This is a very encouraging trend.

Rome wasn't built in a day. This is just the beginning. If they haven't already, they'll start caring. Remember folks, if you care, if this matters to you, take a few minutes out -- write LEGO. It doesn't cost you anything. Let them hear you.

The posted LEGO response had me wondering why I didn't get one, and in fact, I did. It was buried in my Spam Folder for some reason but it did come through a couple of weeks ago, and here it is: [uPDATE] I just wrote them back to thank them for their reply. This is fantastic news.

That's awesome that they responded. Thanks for posting this. Very cool indeed. At least not until next year. This is nowhere near the end, this is just the beginning. That's not at all the takeaway. The takeaway is the TLG is aware of this issue. The takeaway is that they are considering all sides. Small steps folks. If we continue to raise awareness and continue to let TLG know we want change, it's only a matter of time. I am absolutely encouraged by this. It's fantastic news really.

Thanks again, good to know. Will def. try it out -- hopefully this weekend. Will report my findings if I get a chance to do another run.

Thanks for the reply. I will definitely try the acetone method next time.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I tried RIT and tried to dye a head -- used the powder, but didn't really take that well. Not sure if I was doing something wrong? Following an article I read on the web, I boiled some water, stuck the head in a container poured the powder, let it sit and removed. Nada... But again perhaps I my process is totally off? I've heard of people also using the Oven, but that sounds a bit hardcore for me -- (plus I'm pretty sure my wife will not be a fan of that method)...

Thanks for this reference, will definitely check it out.

Are there any useful guides / guidelines regarding dyeing LEGO parts? In particular Minifigure parts? Any products to avoid? Any methods better than others? Thanks!

Amazing. Beautiful. Great job!

I can also confirm that BW service is outstanding and very prompt. Have always been very happy with my orders with them. I also have only purchased BA products via re-sellers, but can confirm that both BA and BW quality are very good.

Bootleg Super Heroes minifigs - worth it or not?

Yeah, the quality can be pretty poor. But for what you pay? I think it's absolutely worth it. Especially for figures that either aren't released (like Odin) or any of the SDCC dupes. For instance, for my Odin figure, I only used their printed head and torso. The rest I swapped out for official LEGO parts -- hair, arms, hands, legs, Scepter, Cape. I think it looks pretty decent (here is a picture of my latest version of Odin -- on the left): The truth is, these are sub-par products if you compare them to official LEGO ones. So your mileage is definitely going to vary. Depending on what I need, I sometimes buy 2 sets at a time knowing that I may have to mix and match to get a decent figure out of the two sets -- but -- at a couple of bucks for a figure? Yeah, it's worth it IMO.
