  1. Thanks for your question. TLG has not (yet) officially responded to this Open Letter.
  2. Glad to see this thread re-open. I would like to say that all of my posts in thread going forward will relate 100% to the topics at hand. I will not respond to personal attacks or baiting.
  3. Yeah, don't tell my supplier! :) btw, nice website -- bookmarked! This is exactly why I am getting the whole set. I'm going to cherry pick the best parts even if they are dupes -- in fact precisely because of it.
  4. When did I ever pat myself on the back? Rather, I simply pointed out that satire (not something literal) went over your head (and continues to). In the end, people continue to attack the person not the issue -- which happens when a person can't argue on the merits of their own view / points. I would love to have a civil conversation on these issues without people getting personal or attacking someone.
  5. Thanks for your response. Europeans generally have no issue with visas to the US. Asia and other regions are not so lucky however. Besides, even if someone who lives outside the US is lucky enough to take a trip there -- lucky enough to visit San Diego -- lucky enough to be there and attend SDCC, odds are they aren't making that an annual trip, every single year straight, until the end of time. It's frankly a crazy thing to ask. But it doesn't have to be this way. That is my whole point.
  6. I have to respond to your latest edit about "horrible things going on in this world". This is such a non sequitur comment. Really, I have to object. I mean, yes, there are horrible things going on in this world. Frankly, there have ALWAYS been horrible things going on in this world. At the risk of digressing too far -- having said that -- do you even realize that on a relative historical basis, the world is the safest, most transparent it has ever been in recorded human history? But again, what does that have to do with the price of tea in China? Taken to the Nth degree of absurdity -- why are we even discussing LEGOs at all? These are just simple plastic toys are they not? Why don't we focus on all of the "horrible things going on in this world"? In fact, you, sir, are a hypocrite in this sense -- if you were really truly concerned about "all of the horrible things going on in this world" why are you even debating this seemingly "meaningless" issue at all? Shouldn't you be out there doing something more productive? Oh no -- because that would completely undermine your whole argument or for your even being on this website. Let's compare all of the heinous and horrendous things vs. any discussion about SDCC Exclusives because this particular topic is so frivolous -- but any OTHER LEGO topic -- well, that's a different story -- other LEGO topics have true merit and gravitas -- other LEGO topics are on par with all the "horrible things going on in this world".... Your logic does not follow because it is devoid of any. Not to mention the hypocrisy (and irony) is palpable indeed.
  7. Thanks for your clarification. And yes I absolutely do stand up for my beliefs. Big or small. I'm very relaxed. "Out to get me"? Even if you were, what are you going to do? Stab me through the internet with your virtual pitchfork? As far as LEGOs go, yeah, I take this issue pretty seriously. It's my right.
  8. I'm good, but not THAT good. First of all, I think it's tremendous that you volunteer. Having said that, I do take issue with people who presume to know anything about me apart from my stance on SDCC Exclusives. People want to paint this picture as if this is my entire world and all I do is eat, breathe and sleep SDCC Exclusives issues -- nothing could be further from the truth (in fact it's a ridiculous charge). Lately, on this forum about LEGO products, yes, this is the issue I am the most vocal about. But don't presume to know anything about me from my posts about LEGOs. And I will leave this food for thought -- when any discussion / debate or argument starts, the side that starts attacking the person rather than the issues (ad hominem) is the side that has the weakest case. People are now starting to attack me as a person This is not entirely unexpected -- but it does validate my view that my stance is stronger -- in fact much stronger.
  9. Change is not a pretty or comfortable process -- especially for those who like the status quo. But I was taught from a long time ago to stand up for what I believe in -- and to stand up for others as well. Nothing will keep me silent on this issue, until there is change. So dig in. I'm in it for the long (or short) haul -- whichever comes first.
  10. Not everyone gets satire. Don't beat yourself up about it. It's fantastic! I'm glad it's escalating. It means it's an important topic. It means people are interested and engaged. It gives this thread more visibility. As the TS, I couldn't be more happier. Thanks!
  11. There is another important difference between SDCC exclusives vs. Mr. Gold, which is simply this: 1) With Mr. Gold, every single LEGO customer has an equal shot to get him (or not get him); whereas 2) With SDCC Exclusives, it is a very limited subset of: A) Those lucky enough to go to SDCC and are successful in the raffle; B) Those who are willing to spend hundreds up to thousands of dollars for these SDCC exclusives Now granted, you could go on eBay and buy Mr. Gold as well, but that is not the point or what the main difference is which is simply this: Everyone has at least a fairly equal shot (now, granted that "shot" isn't that high -- but at least no one has a discernible advantage over another) at getting Mr. Gold whereas the ability to obtain an SDCC Exclusive is no where near as equitable -- in point of fact, it's nearly the polar opposite from a statistical point of view / probability of all available LEGO customers who want (either Mr. Gold or an SDCC Exclusive).
  12. Whatever works. Writing and awareness together make the best approach.
  13. I'm curious to see how that one turns out. I love the mask -- but I am still partial to my own Mark I build. Perhaps I might mix / match some parts into my build. At any rate, it gives us all a bunch of options which I absolutely love.
  14. Pictures of the new Decool Iron Men are out (not the greatest picture, but it will have to do for now)
  15. Have you ever been to the Moon? By being aware of it's [sic] existence (before the next landing occurs) and not spending money on space travel and Astronaut training you have made the decision to not spend the time, effort and money to go to the next lunar landing for whatever reason. The only exception is for people who do not know of the Moon. All excellent points. I fully agree. Please contact LEGO, let them hear your voice on the matter. Thanks for your input. Please contact LEGO, let them hear your voice on the matter. This is another excellent point and perhaps even another solution -- I am considering editing my Open Letter to incorporate this suggestion -- i.e. have each SDCC figure be VERY specific to each SDCC -- i.e. have them printed as SDCC 2015. That way it's really bragging rights for Convention swag, it's truly "exclusive" and yet others won't feel "excluded". Please contact LEGO, let them hear your voice on the matter. Excellent points Please contact LEGO, let them hear your voice on the matter.
  16. Um, no it absolutely, positively does not mean that I choose not to spend money to go to SDCC. Some people from the US amaze me. Many are so insular. Many are so US-centric. The world revolves around the US amirite? You do realize that LEGO is a non-US brand right? (it's from Denmark in case you were wondering) You do realize you are posting on a forum called "Eurobricks" not "Mericabricks", right? You do realize that LEGO is a global brand, do you not? You do realize that LEGO sells product all around the world? You do realize that not everyone lives in the US? You do realize that many non-US countries require a visa to visit the US and you do realize that many people will never have the opportunity to visit the US? You do realize that some people cannot fly (due to health reasons, medical reasons, disabilities etc). I mean really the list goes on and on and on. This default assumption that the only possible reason that someone could not go to SDCC is because they are a cheap bastard -- it's so profoundly ignorant, it's almost sublime. Your assumptions are completely incorrect, and in fact are insulting -- to yourself -- because of your own ignorance -- and I don't mean that as a personal insult, I mean that at face value. You don't know what you don't know. Which is fine if you kept that to yourself. You make these "matter of fact" assumption (and in such a condescending way mind you) but the funny thing is -- you are completely and utterly wrong at times. The sheer irony is something to marvel really. As I said, some people will never be able to go to SDCC (and not because they are cheap bastards). Not that I need your permission, but I'm glad you acknowledge this.
  17. We will simply have to agree to disagree. I get all of your points. But here are is where we fundamentally disagree: 1) People keep on throwing around the word "entitled". Yes, no one is "entitled" to an SDCC figure. So what? No one is "entitled" to have a computer and have access to the internet and post on Eurobricks. "Entitled"? Frankly no one is "entitled" to anything at all if you boil it down to the lowest common denominator. If we devolved into a post-apocalyptic world -- only those smart enough and strong enough to secure the basic necessities will survive. This is an extremely weak argument. "Entitled"? Sure, I guess if being a bonafide LEGO customer for many, many years who has spent thousands upon thousands of dollars on their product makes me "entitled" -- with a slight but very important caveat -- what it makes me is "entitled" to is the right to voice my opinion. As a LEGO customer, that is what I (or anyone else for that matter) am "entitled" to. 2) Which leads to my second point. You state that "none of this is LEGO's concern". This is flat out wrong IMO. The reason why this is absolutely LEGO's concern is because they are marginalizing a very large portion of their customer base. So yes, they don't "have" to do anything about this. But if they care about the future of their business and keeping their customers happy -- they will listen. In fact, I know they are listening now -- because this is just the tip of the iceberg. This noise will only grow louder to the point that LEGO cannot ignore it. So friends, AFOLers, LEGO-ers lend me your voice. Let them hear you! If you care, if this bothers you, if you think this is unfair, if you are frustrated because you live in another country / continent and will never be able to go to SDCC, if you a collector and you look at a $1,000+ eBay price tag for an SDCC figure and think that this is completely out of control, if you have been a life-long LEGO fan and customer (like me) and feel "entitled" to voice your opinion. Then do it. Just do it. Go to LEGO.com and send them your opinion on this issue. You are not alone. Together we can and will make a difference. Your voice counts: http://service.lego....en-us/contactus Besides, what's the worst that can happen? That they will listen? :) See above.
  18. As crazy as this situation is -- it's really the "tiny picture". The real bigger picture is that these kinds of situations can be entirely avoided with a balanced distribution strategy.
  19. What an insightful comment. We are going around in circles. I guess we have to agree to disagree. I understand your point. But mine is simply that it is absolutely possible to satisfy both sides here and create a win / win.
  20. Totally disagree. Who is responsible for creating this artificial supply / demand? If TLG released these exclusives into general release (even if a year or two or several later) it would go a long way to reducing or eliminating the profit motive sought by scalpers. Period. It's economics 101 at its very basic level.
  21. I completely disagree. There is a happy medium that can be achieved. It doesn't have to be right away (in fact look at the Green Lantern release, it's taken several years but it is coming out -- a different variant granted, but it's a start). This is a template that can appease both sides IMO. Initially, Convention goers who are lucky enough to snag an exclusive can still enjoy that exclusivity for a number of years. And then a few years later, the general public should be able to enjoy it -- what's so wrong with that?
  22. I encourage everyone who wants TLG to review and take action regarding the SDCC Exclusive system, to write them. I have. If you agree, then you should to. Go and do so now. If you can take enough time to read or post in this thread and you agree that something should be done -- then do something about it. And it won't cost you anything but a little bit of time. Tell your friends. Let your voice be heard. Collectively, we can make a difference. If TLG simply reviewed some or any of the solutions I proposed at the beginning of this Open Letter, TLG will see that there is a better way, and everyone can "win" -- and we can reduce (if not eliminate) the unintended consequences of this system (i.e. scalpers and astronomical prices in the secondary market and, subsequently, angry customers).
  23. "Legitimate buyers"? Most of these exclusives are simply given away -- gratis. Not to mention your entire premise furthers this "tail wagging the dog" situation -- i.e. weighing the needs of the very few (microscopic few to be fair) over the overwhelming vast many. It's completely out of balance. I think these are all excellent points. Particularly about the motivations behind the releases, the "intent" to generate buzz, etc. But in the end, it is TLG that is ultimately responsible for the distribution of these products. Not only that, the motivation regarding these figures may have been very meaningless to begin with -- but now TLG customers are voicing their frustration with this system and want change. If enough voices make enough noise, TLG will indeed have to re-consider how they go about doing this. So, yes, TLG may have considered these "$2 figures as a case of t-shirts" in the beginning, but I think there is enough noise for them to take a harder look. Their customers are UPSET. Their customers are DEMANDING ACTION. They might not have cared then, but I think they will begin caring now. These promos or "convention swag" may have had some marketing value in the beginning (with marginal or even no cost to TLG) -- but now it might start hitting TLG's bottom line. It's never a smart business move to ignore angry customers -- I think TLG understands that much. I encourage everyone who wants TLG to review and take action, to write them. I have. If you agree, then you should to. Go and do so now. If you can take enough time to read or post in this thread and you agree that something should be done -- then do something about it. And it won't cost you anything but a little bit of time. Tell your friends. Let your voice be heard. You can make a difference. We can make a difference. Finally, I have made several proposals in my Open Letter which I believe satisfies the goals and needs of MARVEL, DC and LEGO and also addresses the concerns raised and the frustrations felt by TLG's loyal customers / collectors. I am simply saying that there is a better way, and everyone can "win" -- and we can reduce (if not eliminate) the unintended consequences of this system (i.e. scalpers and astronomical prices in the secondary market and, subsequently, angry customers).
  24. When you start mixing and matching LEGO parts with Decool / SY parts, that's when you will really appreciate the precision and quality of LEGO parts (IMO). Every LEGO part fits seamlessly with one another (as everyone well knows) -- but 3rd party parts are really hit or miss -- sometimes they are loose, sometimes its a really tight fit. Hands and arms are the worst IMO, in the sense that there is the smallest margin for error there and they don't really fit that great many times.
