  1. My bad, you are absolutely right, they are Data Matrix. I suspect TLG use those codes themselves, so if they work for the minifigures, I don’t see why they wouldn’t keep them for these. But who knows how corporations think.
  2. There is a handy app called Minifig Scan that was originally created for the Collectible Minifigures, but it now seems to work for other LEGO mystery packs like the micro F1 cars. I’m pretty sure they’ll add these ones, too. Basically, every box has a unique QR code on the bottom, so after a new series like this is launched, it takes them some time to find all the QR codes, but then you can just scan the code and see what’s inside. I got a few specific minifigures that way on first try (technically, it wasn’t even a try), and my brother got the Ice planet minifigure as soon as he got the app after buying a couple of random ones.
  3. This is my take on the Crusher vehicle driven by the Roadkill faction in the Mad Max game. Using the chair piece for the fender flares was the initial inspiration, which also pays homage to 10200 Custom Car Garage. The exhausts are another prominent feature of the original design, so I'm happy I managed to come up with a relatively clean way to build them. Admittedly, the there are a few dubious connections, and a lot of the pieces are not available in Dark Red. Here is the prototype for reference:
  4. First of all, amazing work! I can immediately see some train-building skills in the raised cell borders, they remind me of some wooden boxcar MOCs I've seen My head hurts just thinking of what's going on under the surface. I would imagine all the new bracket pieces proved very useful. Secondly, time for some unwarranted advice and suggestions I've had the idea of "AZUL out of LEGO" ever since I first saw the 10359 Fountain Garden set with this 2x2 tile in it: And now there's a new Friends set with a similar setting, 42691 Garden Restaurant, with these 2x2 tiles: Obviously, these aren't an exact match for either the patterns or the colors of the AZUL tiles. But while IDEAS would allow for custom prints, should you ever decide to Bricklink this, you could as well use these 3 designs if LEGO has already produced them. Other decorations would be harder, though. Anyway, good luck with the IDEAS submission!
  5. Duh, now that you’ve said it, it’s hard to unsee. Reading posts from a phone has its downsides. It’s cool that an “out of system” combination of parts is a design decision and serves a purpose.
  6. Thanks for the link! And I think I forgot to compliment the car itself, but that goes without saying. A very clean build, and a clever use of the studs-on-the-side plates to replicate the drilled frame.
  7. Hi everyone! I'm not a Trains forum regular, but I recently read New Elementary's part review of the 42210 Nissan Skyline GT-R set, and it was suggested there that the new wheel cover 6607 might be used as a train wheel. Has anyone has used it or considered using it? The obvious problem with the part is that you can't connect a coupling rod to it, but it looks like it could be done with the 6575 cam.
  8. Yes, love it! I've been thinking about this after Speed Champions switched to the 8-wide format. These figures work so much better for the scale! And LEGO has been using more minifig-style longer legs and arms for Woody in Toy Story sets, Na'vi in Avatar sets, and Jack Skellington in the recent Ideas Nightmare before Christmas set. Would be interesting if LEGO decided to use them for Speed Champions, although I realize an extra row of studs is to much space to waste in those sets. I also suspect that collectors would be unhappy if a unique figure in a licensed Speed Champions set would be in this weird scale. Super excited about these new tires. Still waiting for the New Elementary review of the set
  9. I wonder why 6929/6930 weren’t used for the front. I guess the set was designed and approved before those pieces became available? It doesn’t look like it is really necessary to use the triangular tile and not the new wedge piece. The only reason I can think of is that the hood would be a boring uninterrupted pink surface.
  10. It’s Modular Integrated Landscaping System: https://www.abellon.net/MILS/ The Town subforum has a bunch of topics for all kinds off MILS plates. I don’t know much about it but moving vehicles don’t seem to be an integral part of the system. However, the MILS plates are built so maybe your solutions for slot cars could be adapted to fit MILS.
  11. Looks great, oncoming traffic does add life to the scene. It’s good to know you are still around, ER0L. I’ve been following you on Flickr for ten years ever since I came back to LEGO, and your MOCs have always been an inspiration to me. Anyway, I would love to see new builds from you but I understand life can often get in the way, so hopefully, it’s the good kind of life things.
  12. Has anyone here actually got the game? It looks like 2K gave away quite a few copies to all kinds of streamers to play, so I’ve been watching LEGO 2K Drive streams quite a bit this week. Unfortunately, very few people felt like someone actively engaged in LEGO outside of the game, so I didn’t get the kind of insights about the building gameplay that I expected. Just from looking at it, though, it felt quite similar to Stud.io – the bricks snap together, you can rotate them once they are attached, the angles of the hinged connections can also be adjusted. You can change the color of each piece, with different kinds of colors available – standard, metallic, transparent, etc. You start with one of the preset chassis (a couple for each of the vehicle types – street, off-road, and boat) and you build on top of that. You can change the wheels, but the core of the selected chassis seems to be locked. So if you want to build a vehicle from a LEGO set, you might need to adapt it to build around the chassis. It also looked like you could share your designs, but no one tried that. What I haven’t figured out yet is how varied is the part palette. All of the basic bricks, plates, slopes, curves, wheels, windscreens, etc. are there. However, when one of the streamers got building instructions for a Speed Champions set, he quickly discovered that the Speed Champions wheel arches seemed to be missing. I wonder if extra pieces can be unlocked by playing the game or (hopefully not) should be bought as extra content. And considering that actual Speed Champion cars (2 most recent McLarens) are playable cars, I also wonder if this is some kind of copyright protection. Like, you shouldn’t be able build a LEGO Ferrari set because it is somehow also a Ferrari? Probably not, but I would really like to now why the part inventory is limited. In terms of gameplay, it looked like a combination of Forza with an open world filled with all sorts of challenges, and Mario Kart in terms of the racing gameplay – you have several types of power-ups like self-guided missiles, spiderwebs to slow down your opponents, or ghost mode to ignore all of that. You also have wacky quests and some kind of plot, but it’s obviously not the main part of the game. Anyway, I would love to get it one day, preferably on a sale, because it seems way too expensive at the moment. I hope more pieces will be available eventually, because I am sure everyone would love to have their favorite Speed Champions design in the game. I am also waiting for some of the AFOLs to try their own designs in the game, there are too many cool car MOCs out there. I’m already thinking about modifying some of my own designs.
  13. I think that would be https://brickset.com/sets/40448-1/Vintage-Car, which was the winning entry in the Ideas competition Build a Vintage Car. I would argue that the taxi and the truck sets we’ve got as GWPs so far are also inspired by that competition - there have been quite a few taxi and truck entries.
  14. I have just been reading New Elementary, and several new sets (10312 Jazz Club and 71786 Zane's Ice Dragon Creature) have this mudguard piece included: The first thing that comes to mind in terms of Speed Champions usage is a Caterham. LEGO have already done the Ideas one, so an SC one could be possible. What do you think?
