MOC: "Quoth the raven, 'nevermore'."
Clone OPatra replied to Tereglith's topic in Special LEGO Themes
From your pics the cape look more Violet-ish than purple, so they most likely come from the Harry Potter minifig himself in certain sets. That color was used as his invisibility cloak. Overall, nice scene, though I do agree that the roof right now looks far too flat and blocky. The different brown colors also do not mix well, so if you can fix those, it would look a lot better. Is the raven standing on a stand, or is that white thing part of it? I like your use of the new tooth piece for wings, but the white part underneath is confusing to me. -
Yes, but Imperial Officers were on Endor and Luke gave himself up to an Imperial Officer on Endor, so it doesn't make more sense that it'd be on the Death Star just because there's an officer. Besides, you never actually see Luke getting off an Imperial Shuttle on the Death Star, so I think it's much more likely that LEGO will make a scene that is actually in the movie, set on Endor. I don't think this set will have the large towering platform on four pillars, it would just be too big and too useless really. Unless they went with some new big pieces it would take a lot of bricks to build pillars of a good size, and there would be no point to them. I find it much more likely that we would get a shuttle, flat platform, and corridor to reenact where Luke is handed over to Vader.

Must we get back on the ROTS vs. CW thing? There's really no point in arguing about it. LEGO is going and does say that the sets are Clone Wars because the sets have Clones and Jedi. We all know that dot eyes are more in line with non-CW sets, but what does it matter how the internet world classifies the sets? If you want the sets, buy them, and do whatever you wish with them. Decide they're ROTS and use them in ROTS scenes. Decide their CW and use them in CW scenes. Nobody's going to slap you if you stick Clone Wars clone pilots in your ARC, and nobody's going to slap you if you make a scene with both Ahsoka and Barriss. Decide for yourself how to classify the sets, and use them whoever you want, just stop arguing about classification on here. About the summer sets, the only one I can say I'm excited for is the Wampa cave and maybe the Slave I, which I think is an awesome ship. The Wampa cave looks nice since it's a sort-of a playset and there aren't many of those, but isn't just a trench and another cannon like was in last summer's Hoth set. The Slave I looks like a good, bigger redesign with great figures, and I like the new-ish color scheme.

Hey guys, this isn't the place to discuss the admin (or Fellow) name craziness. The thread that Darth Legois links to above is the place for any discussion of names if they ever happen to be crazy again, so let's just discuss the reasons behind member's chosen names here. Thanks!

I think your estimations are very reasonable, with nothing out of place except for your estimations for the Quidditch set. Since I think the set name has been established as "Quidditch Lesson," I find it much more likely that Madame Hooch and perhaps a more prominent character like Neville will be included. I really don't think we will see anyone from other houses except maybe a Luna someday in the future, and Wood and Montague are way too obscure for most people. In a theme like Star Wars that has been going strong for ten years, LEGO can afford to make relatively minor named characters (like Zev Senesca or the dark tan beard guy in Home One), but my feeling is in HP LEGO will make all the minifigs pretty well-known characters since this is sort of a "new" line, my thoughts anyway.

Not a whole new title exactly, but now my title has been added to so that it reads: "Not afraid to ask stupid questions and cone-headed clone" The "cone-headed clone" part was added because my name was Cone O'Patra for a day after the smurf madness, and my avatar at the current time (Jan '10) was my clone with a cone head. LuxorV added it after changing my name back to normal.

I'm a big Apple fan. Though I don't have a lot of Apples, I can't stand working on Windows or any other system. I love the feel and look of Mac Os, and of course the computer itself (I've got a Mac Mini) is so cute. I don't think Macs are godly or perfect, nor of course right for anybody, but they're what I've always been on and I can't think of having a non-Mac computer. I do occasionally use Windows in certain places, and I really don't like it. One of the biggest reasons for me that I love Mac is Final Cut, which is what I edit on. Final Cut is an excellent program that is only for Macs, and since I am extremely comfortable in Final Cut for editing I would not think of switching to a different editor at this point (I may learn Avid in the future). You can love it or hate it or be indifferent, but I gotta have a Mac.

I wouldn't get so bummed, if I were you. Just because it's got Endor packaging and perhaps an Endor-tied figure or two doesn't mean you can't put it with your Hoth sets/diorama, and, now that Hoth figures can be cheaply attained in the battle packs, it's not such a problem that we wouldn't get a Hoth fig with the AT-AT. After all, I'd much rather get an Endor trooper who has only appeared in one large set than more Hoth troopers which I can get several of in a small set and have been featured in many different iterations in several passed sets. I don't think anyone's going to be dissapointed just because a large, nicely designed (hypothesizing here) AT-AT features a camo fig and a forest on the box. People like the LEGO SW sets I think because they want the models and figs, not to commemorate an anniversary. Yeah, anniversaries are nice, but it's whatever nice sets LEGO feels like making that really matter.

Adding on, I thought I'd post these two videos I found, the first from 1989 (found on Gizmodo), and one recent (found just on youtube). Man, just from the video it looks like quality was so much better and more important back then. And look at all the people they employed! How I wish it was still like that.

I only have the clone with green markings magnet figure (bought from Bricklink to have all colorings of EpIII clones), and it is a perfect figure. The quality and printing is exactly the same as my other clones and any other regular minifigs, the only difference, as stated, was that you can't take the legs off. But who really cared about that, especially for a clone? Not me. Replying to what someone said in another thread recently about the Yoda, Dooku, Mace set, the minifigures were not standard quality, at least mine. Yoda actually was, being the normal tan color with equally normal legs. But the other too have a milkier, less rich color throughout. The dark tan is a hazy color, not crisp like dark tan on Dr. Jones for example, and the flesh color and black on Dooku are much less rich than the normal LEGO of those shades. I may still purchase more magnets in the future if they come with awesome, hard to find figs like those three, but I certainly won't expect full quality figs.

Review: McDonald's Racer Promotional #1 6x2 Turbo
Clone OPatra replied to Ricecracker's topic in Special LEGO Themes
It was in the Academy Big Cam. I helped grade it. Great job on the review, Ricecracker, your deadpan humor throughout the whole thing works beautifully. I can't say I would want to own any of these. I too remember when McDonalds had those silly little vehicles with the printed slope characters, and the throwarm Bionicle matoran, remember them? -
She will say it signifies building your career and fame up from the bottom, just like wearing mutilated Kermit dolls was a statement against fur, wasn't it?

I understand what you're saying Darthperson, and I do agree. The thing that makes the HP story different from those films mentioned is that HP has little relief from the darkness other than a tad of cheery character interaction. Temple of Doom and SW have over the top vehicle chases that kids can relate to just because guys are riding around in ship or cars or what have you, and so the kids can also reenact those happy chase scenes with LEGO vehicles. HP, on the other hand, is not vehicle driven at all, having no happy car chases or space battles. It's all about the characters and the locations (though more about the characters), and that's why I think it made a poor LEGO theme for a while and ran way out of steam. Now with a new line all that can be done is remake the locations and the characters, since that is all there is really. It's certainly possible to even make Hallows into a silly LEGO game, but I think that goes against LEGO's reasoning since they assume whatever sets/games they put out will be supporting the kids also reading/watching the source material.

Talk to the Star Wars Moderators and Regulators
Clone OPatra replied to KimT's topic in LEGO Star Wars
It in fact has nothing to do with Star War at all. That is called a title, and you cannot change it, only staff can. Threads in the Website & Forums section will explain in greater detail. -
What's with the staff's usernames?
Clone OPatra replied to Sir Dano's topic in Forum Information and Help
What the smurf are you smurfing about? Absolutely smurfthing is going on, so I suggest you get your smurfs checked. -
Yes, it is unlikely to see a Luna or Death Eater, since Luna did not come about until the fifth installment (chapter, episode, call it what you want…), and Death Eaters only had a small part in the fourth one. If the games follow the source material years-wise, and the sets follow the games, it's a very long shot to expect either of these two characters yet.

Star Wars The Clone Wars Season 2 Discussion
Clone OPatra replied to DarthSion's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Yes, I believe I've read in past things that the Jedi are somewhat afraid of Grevious, since few had ever met him and come back to tell the tale. I read a comic book once where Grevious bursts into a room and kills about three Jedi fairly quickly and easily. I hate it that in this show, the narrator seems to be convinced that Grevious is a big threat, yet tons of Jedi meet him, fight him, and are left alive since he usually ends up running off. It's like the show writers based their whole idea of Grevious off of the one scene in EpIII where he abandons his ship at the beginning to get to safety, which was actually a smart and somewhat necessary move, not cowardly. One more thing that bugs me constantly is that all of the starship drivers are battle droids. In the films, ships are always piloted by Neimoidians, so how come all of a sudden all the pilots are the overly stupid droids? I don't want to get into the "stupid droids" discussion, but it shouldn't be battle droids piloting the huge ships in the first place. Battle droids are shown as aids in the command bridge in the films, not the pilots. -
Star Wars The Clone Wars Season 2 Discussion
Clone OPatra replied to DarthSion's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Though I always watch every episode (gotta get me my Star Wars), I'm often disappointed by the way they do certain things in the episodes. One example I have from the first episode this week was that Grevious fights Obi-Wan with four lightsabers (I can't remember if he's done this before on the show, but he probably has). Why is that a problem? Well, in EpIII Obi-Wan is clearly surprised when Grevious detaches his arms and grabs four sabers. And I mean very clearly surprised. There's an extreme close up on his face where Ewan McGregor widens his eyes and has a surprised look as Grevious does this. So if Grevious has already fought Obi-Wan with his four sabers before, how come it's a surprise in EpIII? The way I see it, the movies are really the center of Star Wars, and there's no excuse why any other Star Wars mediums should do things that don't fit with the movies. Like others, I'm also bummed that Grevious is such a wuss in this series. The only time he ever did anything actually cool was when he killed that Mon Calamari padawan in season 1. But that was just a Padawan. C'mon, I want to see Grevious slaughter a bunch of Jedi Knights! That would at least establish him as a threat. I did quite like all the parts with the Clones, and with the Deserter, except that the way the series draws female characters maddens and sickens me every time. Why must every female character have huge hips, large pointy breasts, and next to no clothing? And, even when some do have clothes (Barris), it's extremely and unrealistically skin tight. Ahsoka is the only one that is almost tolerable, except that she is always wearing a tiny tube top! Especially since this show targets young boys, their drawing and portrayal of women is unacceptable. -
Dobby's release is from the second book. Anyhow, what I mean to say is that all of the set names are either specific scenes from the first two (Dobby and Quidditch Lesson), or locations introduced in the first two, with no scenes or specific sets coming from the 3rd and 4th installments. I understand that LEGO wishes to tap into the stock locations and vehicles (Hogwarts Express) since these are the most instantly recognizable, I suppose. But since there are no scenes from the 3rd or 4th installments (like a Boubatons Carriage, or Shrieking Shack, or something) in the list, I find it unlikely that we will get any of the characters that are just from the those books, like Fleur or a new Sirious or a minister of magic. I'm not trying to complain about it, since I also said that I'm sure the new sets will be better and more detailed, and the figs will be redesigned and also pretty nice, I'm sure. I was just mentioning a theory.
-
And I'm sure they will be. LEGO has shown us recently that it redoes things in full force. Just look at Star Wars, with each redo the models get bigger and more detailed. LEGO usually doesn't put out sets that have the bare, kind of empty quality of the HP sets based on the first two movies. By the third and fourth movie lines, the sets were certainly getting better, but I'm sure since the sets on this list are from the first two movies, we will see a huge improvement. My one worry about these though is that LEGO might not pay attention to detail again on the minifigures. I know it's based on a game and not movies this time, but the way the kept the kids' hair the same every single time bugged me. But I'm not too worried about it, LEGO doesn't disappoint too often (but now with crappy Chinese TS figures…). And one more thing I notice about the set names. Though the games are years 1-4, most of the sets just form there names take place in 1 and 2. Those two are certainly more kid-oriented, and maybe there will be a second wave, but it just seems a tad odd. If LEGO was worried about 3 and 4 being too dark for what they want, then they wouldn't be making the game, so why are none of these sets from those two? (We don't know about the Castle or the Burrow of course, but you know what I mean)
-
I don't think he meant Bossk when he said "extra figs," I think he was referring to those rumors that the set would also come with Chewie, Leia, and a few others, and that we won't be getting those characters. Though LEGO certainly has left out minifigs that were on preliminary boxes in the past, I'm still going to bet we will get Boba, Bossk, and Han in carbonite in that set. Is that what you meant Rockinhurt? That we will get Bossk, but not others like Leia and Chewie? Also, since you say they are on the fence about putting in Han, does that mean that the Carbonite piece does not fit a minifig? Because I thought that since it is so large looking, that the Han minifig went inside.

Snagged me a new one: "Not afraid to ask stupid questions" - given to me by Svelte, since I wasn't afraid to ask a stupid question, and may do it again someday.

Go to the Reviewers' Academy Thread under Website & Forums, and say you'd like to join. That's it! Yes, you can upload the resized images to Brickshelf, and if they have the same names as the originals they will replace the originals, and it won't mess up the review at all.

You might be holding out a long long time, we haven't seen a licensed impulse since they started making impulses, and it's been very long time since there's been a licensed set under $10. @HuntleyFx, your parts are really completely rigid? The rifles in mine are close to rigid but just very slightly bendy, but the metal detector is completely bendy and the handle flakes when put in a minfig's hand. Did you buy one in the US or elsewhere?

They also came in green. The Fright Knights Witch's ballon set had a green one. About the set itself, well, I always thought Basil was so ugly looking under that helmet, and the dragons are only good as a display piece. You can't very well swoosh a dragon at somebody if it's standing on its hindquarters, that's like trying to make the playful Bellville puppy looking like it's running. I like later dragons much better, especially the Vikings ones.
