Well I for one am quite pleased with the landspeeder set even without your price-jacking-up-spy-guy. Some of you may have those minifigures, but that is only if you can afford beautiful biggies like the Death Star and the UCS MF, which are the only sets that those versions of Ben and Luke come in. The newer R2 is in a few more sets, as is the newer colored 3po, but not any sets under $100, I don't think. So, all in all, with four newest versions of major characters, plus a Stormtrooper with breather and black pauldron, plus a nice landspeeder for all of us who didn't get the cantina and would love a redesign over the first one, this is a wonderful set. And about the seemingly "small" number of sets, that is the way it always is for the first wave of a year. For two years in a row (2007 and 2008), LEGO released just 6 sets in their January wave. Last year had a couple more, but still not so many. Be patient, and wait for all of those big, expensive summer releases. @ Zzz - X-Wing Yoda of Brickhorizon.com talked to a LEGO rep at a TRU from which he got the information that there would be a new AT-AT. However, it's unclear whether that would be a UCS AT-AT, or a normal system scaled one, from what xwingyoda posted on Brickhorizon.

I don't really buy many city sets any more, but I must say that I'm glad LEGO is releasing a Fire Station to match the Police Station from last year (I think it was 2008). They have just come so far in terms of playability and details, like a coffee machine, enough doors, interesting rooms instead of just monitoring rooms… The only think I really don't like about the new Fire Station is the vehicles. The big fire truck would be ok, if it were not for what looks like a water tank from the new Power Miners sets as the cab. Those tall wraparound blue windows are just too much for me to handle, it's like a huge transblue wraparound windshield, which doesn't exist in the real world and I think shouldn't exist in the LEGO one. I guess the nice ladder part and details on the rear end of the truck sort of make up for it, but I can't get over the water tank-looking cab part. Even if the windshields were transblack, it would still look a bit odd, but not as odd. The fire car also looks a bit to much like a stubby mouse to me. The front slopes out too much in an odd way, in my opinion. I would not want to buy either of the vehicles if they were released separately (which I guess is why they're not), but I suppose we have had enough good standalone fire vehicles over the last several years, so it doesn't matter too much.

Great collection you have there! I have several of those, but not very many. However, I'd like to point out that you missed the Studio Monsters actress in the dark red dress. I realize that you may have done that on purpose, since her dress doesn't have any printing on it, but it is still the old dress piece (meaning it looks like a slope, but is hollow inside). Do you not count that as a dress since it doesn't have printing? (I'm sorry if I'm sounding obnoxious here, I'm really not trying to be, I just wanted to ask you.)

Really, is the one you have not just plain white? The caped version was just the standard LEGO white color, I've got him. Great review!

I;m sorry, I didn't mean to get everybody on an "it's overpriced here" kick. There is a different topic for that. I was just showing that the prices on this website are not wrong at all, but that we cannot estimate other countries' prices based on currency conversions.
-
Has anyone else noticed that brickshelf has completely gone down! All deeplinked Brickshelf pics are gone, just gone! They show up as missing symbols, making many many reviews almost worthless! I hope they fix that soon (I'll take this as a good time to switch completely to flickr).

Yes, though it doesn't make sense conversion-wise, US prices usually have around the same numbers as Euros (which is why people rightfully are annoyed that LEGO is so much more expensive in Europe). What I mean by same numbers is that if the price is 22 Euros, it's also 21 or 22 dollars. Just go to LEGO.com and switch the countries around at shop at home and you'll see that this is true. LEGO does not base prices on currency conversions.

The minifigures are great, and the parts are great, but I really can't see this doing well as a LEGO line. The set is basically a bunch of built rocks and some mechanisms along an otherwise empty corridor. Now that I see this set, I really can't see this line replacing Indy. This line is of one new Disney movie, which probably won't even be such a big movie. If this set tells us something about the movie, it's that it is very puzzle and trap based. However, Indy is a vehicle packed well-known series, and LEGO loves vehicles. I am really glad that LEGO got this license because of the parts and figures, just like Speed Racer, but if the other sets are also like this I can't see the line lasting long.

Just, what? It's Galidor all over again, except the figures have ball in socket joints instead of peg in hole joints. What would've been wrong making these completely Bionicle-like? Then all of the Bionicle fans would've gotten tons of new part, and we could all be happy that they're still at least LEGO. But this? Did kids actually like Galidor? Because if they didn't, I have no clue what LEGO is thinking. And everybody guessed this from the beginning…

And the Death Star. @Big Cam - it is not the pirate with out headgear. It is an ugha warrior face from Indiana Jones on a Hoth Leia body with sand green pants. In the physical catalog it's quite apparent.

Thanks very much for the links! I really like the look of the large set that isn't a vehicles, from what I can see it has some great grave-yard like pieces in cool colors. The tiny diver set is also a great impulse and cheap way to get the awesome helmet. As for the vehicles and Atlantis creature/minifigures, I'll have to wait for better pictures to tell. Right now the vehicles just look a bit too large and red to me, and the Atlantis minifigures look way weird. That shark piece might make a great new Viktor Krum, though.

Well, I wouldn't let my hopes up or down right now. As far as another AT-AT is concerned, we really know absolutely nothing. I completely believe that xwingyoda is not making anything up, but could it be that the LEGO rep he talked to mistook a different gray, walker type set for the AT-AT that xwingyoda asked about? I would say that's probably not the case, but it's impossible to tell. We do know that the other set (CTT) that xwingyoda mentioned was already on rumor lists, so this rep did know what he was talking about. Since that set is true, it's most likely that the AT-AT is for real too, but we can't tell in what size.
-
Here's the link. I've read the entire discussion over on Brickhorizon, and nowhere does it mention that this At-At will be midi-scaled. You should all read it yourself to know exactly what is said, but in brief xwingyoda says that the LEGO rep he talked to did not know much about Star Wars in general, and that xwingyoda guesses that this At-At will be larger than the last one, but that's hopes more than any factual information.

Nope, the last Snowspeeder was in 7666 in 2007. It was a good one. However, if, as someone already said, they included a mini-ish snowspeeder towards the size of Vader's Tie in the Death Star, that would be cool and new, and still make for some great playability.

Though we have already seen those pics before, looking at them again I find it amusing that the large figure sets seem to say "costraction" figure on them. It could say "construction," but I really see an "a" there. Looks like LEGO is making up their own words again (midi-scale?), this time contracting "construction" and "action." It may turn out I'm wrong about this though.

Flickr, mocpages probably…

You can use any image hosting site that will allow you to deeplink. Weapons count to your total parts count they're not part of the minifigure.

Seeing as the CTT is a rumored August set, it is unlikely that we will see any prelims until winter time. Summer set prelims don't generally come around in September, so we still have some time to wait before they'll show up. About the whole "spy in the shadows" thing, I've looked at the picture closely and I think it's really impossible to tell. There's no solid evidence either way, though I would agree with others that it's strange for LEGO to hide a minifig that much, even if it is still a silhouette, which it probably wouldn't be at this stage because all of the other minifigures in the other sets (including new molds) are there.

I suppose you are right, but for some reason I hadn't expected it in the LEGO theme. Really though, in the movies there are only the little army guys and not a jeep, and the only spaceship was a cardboard packaging box that buzzs came in. I really only think of the characters themselves when I think of the movies, because the main focus of play for Andy (and Sid, I suppose) is only action figures, and action figures don't really come in whole setups. I hope that explains why I was pleasantly surprised with everything LEGO has come up with, although I suppose it would be common sense.
-
Those sets look quite good in their finished version. The army men set is just a plethora of normal parts in green, which is so awesome! I love accessories in alternative colors, LEGO did a great job with that! The large Buzz and Zurg figures also look pretty good. Each seems to have a lot of pieces, which is good, and each very well represents their film character counterpart. The new Bionicle hands used on both were a great idea in my opinion, as well as the Bionicle Mystica launcher for Zurg. I like how this line is turning out to be a smattering of everything all tied together: army cars, space ships, western towns, and giant guys!

Certainly not Duplo, says I. I see definite studs and KK2 action figure type pieces. The action figure sets aren't really my cup of tea either, but it's interesting to see that they are making a set based somewhat off of "Buzz Lightyear of Star Command" (the starship). The Woody's roundup set seems like a nice Western style thing, while the green jeep is beautiful and the set with the car is a nice way to get Woody and Buzz, who I both quite like.

I just got the American LEGO Fall Catalog, and while I was flipping through it, it got me thinking, does anybody else get and look at the catalogs? I, of course, don't read the catalogs to find out about new sets anymore. On a place like Eurobricks, we've all known about any new sets for months (unless LEGO really wants to keep it a secret). I read them because it's fun to look at real, printed pictures of all the sets, and laugh at all the crazy mistakes LEGO makes in the catalog (check out the Plo Koon head with a Clone body for Ackbar in the inset pictures in the most recent one). On top of that, I've kept all the catalogs I've received since 1998 organized by year to go back and peruse from time to time just for fun… So, does anybody else have these habits? Has anybody else kept there catalogs, and do they look at them? I hope this could be an interesting discussion…

My most hated set is probably the 7161 Gungan Sub. That's not just because it's old either. I have many of the old sets (the Tie Fighter, X-Wing, Y-Wing, B-Wing, Naboo Fighter, Falcon) that came out around that time, and I like all of them fine, but this one was really no good. It's too big and flat to swoosh very well, the shape is not great, and the movie inaccuracy doesn't help. The only minifigure that didn't come in a cheap set was Obi-Wan with his exclusive brown hood, but even he can't redeem a $45 set that's no good. As for minifigure, I'll agree that the buzz droid is pretty bad, as well as those single molded piece characters like Sebulba and Aldar Beedo, and also the weirdly created characters like Gasgano and the Aldar Beedo from the podracer tub, which is also a pretty bad set. However, I don't actually own any of those minifigures, so I have to go with the new Lukes as the worst. I really dislike the modern Luke with the young Obi-Wan face. It looks wrong to me, and it's just not Luke-like in my eyes. The most recent Luke I got (in 7666) also has eyebrows that make him look a little angry, which is not like the character in the movie. Sorry, LEGO, but I'd love to see a resurrection of the old Luke face (and in flesh!).

Oh, whoopsy. Well, Svelte should read my last comment them and learn a lesson. Paradisa sets are wonderful and were something really different than anything else. Bright colors had not yet been done, and they were fabulous. I wish LEGO would make a new line of girl system sets instead of license after license and underwater after underground after space.

I made sure not to generalize it with the theme. I do think that the amount of accessories and colors are exemplary of the theme, but not the set as a whole, as I highlighted above. Sorry if parts of my review were misleading, but I tried to make it clear in the conclusion.
