I believe the special original version DVDs are just rips of the laser discs, so I don't think there'd be much difference in quality.

This is a fun MOC. You have a really well-defined color scheme going, and nice conservative parts usage. It's got neither too much or too little detail. I love seeing people build in 'LEGO set style;' it's fun to emulate sets and imagine how material would be translate if LEGO had produced it. There's so much untapped material in already-established themes that not enough people are working with themselves. I still find that the presentation is marred a little bit in self promotion. I get that everybody wants to put MOCs on Ideas these days, and that's fine, go for it, but realistically a set in an existing, current license isn't going to happen. I have no problem with people wanting to put their work on Ideas, and you do have high quality work, but the way the topic is presented makes it feel like the drive to be successful at LEGO Ideas came first, and the MOCing came second. Maybe that's not the case, but that's the way it reads.

New Parent/AFOL -- What is a good deal?
Clone OPatra replied to brickbert1000's topic in General LEGO Discussion
30-40% off on Amazon isn't all that uncommon. I'm not aware of their sale schedule, if there even is one, but I've definitely bought sets with those sales in summertime. It will usually be on sets that are at least six months old, and probably even older, nearing the end of stock. -
New Parent/AFOL -- What is a good deal?
Clone OPatra replied to brickbert1000's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I would rank 'good deal' based on how much I would want a set in The first place. This is off the cuff, but I could break it down as follows: For a set I'm truly considering at full price - 20% off is a nice little saving and I'd do it, though not a deal. For a set I'm considering but wavering about at full price - 30% off might convince me and 35% off I'd certainly do it. For a set that I want but wouldn't consider full price - 40% would be a deal and I'd do it. 45% and above is always a good deal no matter the set. Don't throw your money away on something you really couldn't care less about even at that much off, but 45+% off would make you consider more things for sure. -
LEGO Star Wars 2015 Pictures and Rumors
Clone OPatra replied to Erdbeereis's topic in LEGO Star Wars
There's a difference about talking about sets and speculating on the film based on those, and talking about sets and the film based on leaked rumors. What a few posters have done is the latter - discussing leaks. It's the equivalent of if people had written months before the Dark Knight Rises came out: 'I wonder if we'll see a set with Talia Al Gul.' Yes, that information was out there, but many people don't want to read it. If the sets themselves spoil things, which I don't think they really will, that's a different story. The closest anything has come, I think, is the Toy Story 3 trash compacted set. But even that didn't really spoil the film. Perhaps Boba Fett being in am EpII set was a spoiler - I remember being surprised after seeing a picture of the EpII Slave I back before the movie came out. So I suppose character reveals could happen. -
You're probably right. It will likely be Bad Robot and Lucasfilm.

Marvel Superheroes 2015 Rumors & Discussion
Clone OPatra replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
This is not true. Tony Stark has an exclusively Tony Stark face, but it's not new. Cap in the Helicarrier has Obi-Wan's head. Hawkeye couldn't use an existing head if he was to have goggles face. LEGO doesn't have an existing face that matches Quicksilver's stubble that I can think of, or Von Strucker's look. The only male who perhaps didn't need a new face is Thor. -

He's doing the same thing that Obi-Wan was doing in the last Podracers set, or Queen Amidala was doing in the Gungan Sub, or a Naboo security officer was doing in the MTT, etc etc etc. Either bumping up the price or providing an opportunity for people to have another cool minifig depending on your perspective. -
You forget that Zack Snyder only makes washed-out movies with distracting color schemes. The entirety of Man of Steel outdoor scenes looked like they were white balanced for indoor incandescents, making the whole thing blue for no reason other than to be 'edgy.' Aqua man might have a little more color to him in the film, but I wouldn't expect much more. I'm actually surprised how much praise I've been seeing on the internet for that picture. I have nothing against the costume per se, but the picture has 'we're making it dark and gritty yayay!' I fully expect this BvS to be as bad if not worse than Man of Steel due to Snyder's truly terrible sense of what tone to take.

New Bricks and Pieces working for anyone?
Clone OPatra replied to sithewok's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Using Chrome on a Mac, I had that happen to me the first time I tried to place the order. It sent me through to Shop At Home, with nothing in my cart. It was quite frustrating to go back and add everything again, but the second time it went through properly and shot me to checkout with my order in place. So, I'd say what you experienced isn't necessarily an isolated case, but the whole system does work and you may just need to try again. -

LEGO Star Wars 2015 Pictures and Rumors
Clone OPatra replied to Erdbeereis's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Wow, TWO versions of a character that was literally never in anything but concept art and tests. That's awesome. The old one was quite bland really, while this one looks great and will be useful for making custom figures. -
In some ways I really like the subtle character traits of the Inquisitor, especially when played against Tarkin. The Inquisitor comes across as truly wanting to be a badass, and styling himself that way, but at the end of the day he's not a real Sith and never will be. Who knows how he got into the position of Inquisitor, but he probably had a successful career for a while fighting against low-level and low-skilled enemies of the Empire, or Jedi who were too broken by the whole tragedy to put up a good fight. He doesn't seem truly terrible at what he does, it seems more like Kanan is simply more resilient than anybody expected. As seen in the latest episode, Kanan has a power of will that the Inquisitor can't break, which isn't what the Inquisitor is used to. That whole description might seem too apologetic for the way the Inquisitor is portrayed, but that's really the way I see it. I was quite surprised myself that they initially advertised the Inquisitor as a really formidable opponent, only to have him become unable to catch the Rebels and ultimately seem kind of like a sulky teenager with Tarkin stepping in. But I think ultimately took the character in an interesting and unexpected direction for Season 1, and perhaps he will come back trying to redeem himself in Season 2 and really cause some damage. The way they portrayed Grevious in Clone Wars is just incomparable. Grevious was shown to be a real, dangerous threat in the original series and even in Episode III to some extent, and Clone Wars turned him into an inept idiot who can have his megablocks served to him by Jar-Jar. It was a complete trashing of a character who we all already knew to be something different. With the Inquisitor, on the other hand, my conception of him comes just from Rebels since that's the only place he appears, so I can get behind his portrayal.

LEGO Star Wars 2015 Pictures and Rumors
Clone OPatra replied to Erdbeereis's topic in LEGO Star Wars
One of the Toy Fair videos I've seen follows around a LEGO representative who details some new things. For showing off the Star Wars constraction figures, she says something to the effect of 'this is the first time we've got the license to make these.' So, clearly LEGO got new rights to make action figures for Star Wars. -
Wow, I feel like I watched something completely different. It didn't sound like a man's voice to me - it was a modulated and disguised voice, which could be a man's, but had tones that sound a bit more like a woman to me. Fulcrum is also wearing a cloak Palpatine style, so even from Hera's view Fulcrum might be unidentifiable or at least cast in shadow. The way I saw it, Fulcrum wasn't only being hidden from the audience, but from Hera as well.I must say, Rebel Resolve was absolutely wonderful. I was sad to see Clone Wars go, but Rebels has been so consistent thus far, I'm really looking forward to seeing where it goes. I don't think it will last nearly as long as Clone Wars did, but it seems like things are really going to change for next season, so we could get a solid three seasons with basically three arcs. Season one was the Rebels being low-key on Lothal, two could be them kicking it into a higher gear elsewhere, and then we'll have to see what happens from there.

I'm expecting the Scooby head to be attached via peg and hole, like the PoP ostrich. It doesn't look like there's enough room for a technic pin.- 1,699 replies

LEGO Star Wars 2015 Pictures and Rumors
Clone OPatra replied to Erdbeereis's topic in LEGO Star Wars
The Flash Speeder and Tyderium look absolutely great. Great models, great minifigures, nuff said. As for everything else… Luke looks great in the Final Duel set, but the overall set isn't very interesting and the new Vader makes me want to simultaneously roll on the floor laughing and vomit in my mouth a little bit. Nice head print on him, but that helmet is just awful awful awful. The old one wasn't perfect by any means, but it was much better than this. The only thing this new Vader is good for is recreating helmetless-Vader dying. Naboo starfighter continues to rise in price while not offering anything interesting. The old $30 one that came with a Starfighter Droid was the best version, and unless they come out with another one for $30, there's no point. A Naboo Starfighter doesn't need all of this other pointless stuff included, nor does it need more pieces than that one had. Gozanti-class cruiser looks awfully dull. Not that it's a bad ship, but it's just not interesting enough to be turned into a $130 set. Capital ships like the Venator, ISD, even Republic Cruiser could have a case for being made, but this? Nobody, and I mean even kids, really wanted a $130 Gozanti cruiser. The color choices for Sabine also confound me - the helmet clearly looks pink in the show, not dark red by any means. The new Astromech is cool though. This Advent calendar to me looks the best ever minifigures-wise. Stormie, Jawa, and Ewok all previously available only in very expensive sets, not to mention the new cool Hoth trooper and newest R2 for those who don't have him already. It would be nice if they'd thrown in a standard C3PO torso too, but not the end of the world. Luke constraction figure looks great. Darth Vader… blech. His torso is a mess. -
It does seem a little odd to me that the goat was a one hit wonder. It's true that there have been plenty of other animals over time that were only in a set or two, but the goat still seems a little odd since it wasn't in a Licensed theme and it could easily fit in other sets. If we look at other animals of recent times that weren't created for Licensed themes, all of them have been used a little more: the cow, pig, and chicken moulds have appeared in a few things, and have even seemed shoehorned in. The latest freight train didn't need to have a cow, The Burrow didn't need to have a pig, Rescue Reinforcements from the LEGO Movie didn't need to exist at all. Just as those sets have made a place for some animals, the goat could have been used as well. I definitely hope the goat appears again - he's a cut little guy.

Marvel Superheroes 2015 Rumors & Discussion

To quote Luke Skywalker on that polybag - 'what a piece of junk!' When they made polybags for Iron Man, Hawkeye, and Thor from the first Avengers films, at least all of those figures were slightly harder to get and, you know, actually good figures. Nobody wants another crappy pajama Spider-Man. -

Those round eyes absolutely kill the Ultron look to me. With the helmet on, those round eyes just make the figure look goofy and nonthreatening. They need to either slant off the top of the eyes, or have the helmet do so, in order for him to look angry and scary. Or they should have printed the full white robotic circles that Ultron clearly has in his eyes in the film, instead of the white 'reflection' dots. Ultron Mark I looks awesome though. -
Lego Jurassic World (Video Game Discussion)
Clone OPatra replied to Amazing Bricks's topic in LEGO Media and Gaming
I'd love something very fresh as well, but I don't read that quote as optimistically as you are. True, playing as a Dino will be a bit different by its very nature, but it could still be somewhat similar to playing as a bigfig character in the Superhero games. After all, the quote still just says that you'll be walking around smashing things. When it says 'battling other dinos,' I can't help but feel it will just be the same as bigfig 'fights' where it tells you what button to mash in sequential order. I'd love to be proven wrong, though!Either way, I'm sure there will still be something slightly fresh about this game just because it is a new franchise and will have to have some Jurassic Park specific features (like the aforementioned dinos). I just don't think it will be the LEGO games makeover we've all been waiting for, since at the end of the day these games are all pretty much the same. If there will be free roaming worlds on the islands as the article suggests, they better include the ability to jump in a car or helicopter (or ride a flying dino) in order to move fast. Riding things/flying is always more fun than walking in LEGO games.- 79 replies

These new sets look amazing to me, and I've never even been into Ninjago. I'm actually not loving the look of the Morro figures themselves, but I love their dragons! Especially the main Morro dragon has such a nice color scheme. I'm also excited to see the katanas in that greenish color - new colors for swords is always a good thing in my book. To perhaps add speculation to the 'Nya mystery Ninja' debate, there's a picture in that video that shows alternate hairpieces for the figures in the new Destiny's Bounty. Fairly certain it's Nya's bowl cut lying there (along with Lloyd's and Cole's hair plus a tricorn for some reason), though it doesn't absolutely have to be.

LEGO Marvel's Avengers Video Game Discussion
Clone OPatra replied to TheBrickPal's topic in LEGO Media and Gaming
There are so many films to pick from at this point, they could do almost anything. It would probably make the most sense to do one or two levels from a bunch of different films, maybe even to lead into Avengers just like the movies did. So, an Iron Man level or two, Thor level or two, Captain America 40s style level, etc.- 647 replies

LEGO Marvel's Avengers Video Game Discussion
Clone OPatra replied to TheBrickPal's topic in LEGO Media and Gaming
Personally I think this game could be very promising. I've played through a number of LEGO games, and the ones I like most are the ones that are actually based on movies (or TV in the case of SWIII: Clone Wars) and not original stories. LEGO games are always going to be pretty much the same as each other, so the fun for me is seeing how LEGO and TT decide to cover source material in the LEGO game style. Marvel Superheroes and Batman 3 were both a bit dull for me (though the scenery in Batman 3 was amazing, especially the Lantern planets) because it's just more of the same smashing things nonsense without any source material pulling me in. Lord of the Rings and Clone Wars (as well as the older SW games) were a lot more fun because it was LEGO's take on something I'm already familiar with. So personally, if this game does the story line from some MCU films, I'll be quite excited for it. I think there's really plenty of material there too - just the first Avengers film alone has enough different fights and scenarios for a good six levels once the scenarios are drawn out with puzzles in the typical LEGO way.- 647 replies

Marvel Superheroes 2015 Rumors & Discussion
Clone OPatra replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
Wow, that whole thing is very disappointing. The main model does the job I suppose, though the pictures do not make it look very imposing. I'm not a hug fan of the helicarrier design anyway, so maybe to fans of it it's better. I love the Shield logo statuette, but the minifigure selection is really terrible. After LEGO went out of its way to make two cool exclusive minifigs for the Tumbler, I would have thought that they would cook up some cool exclusives here too. Instead, the only exclusive things are the bodies on Maria Hill and Nick Fury. Cap'n appears to have a young Obi-Wan face, and Nick Fury seems to have the same head he had in the Spider-Man set. They could have done an exclusive Cap, or Winter Soldier style Falcon, or something. The trophy figs are really cute though.
