  1. How is the Star Slicer ten dollars more than the Warp Stinger? It only has one piece more than the Warp Stinger, and they are extremely similar sets! That's a crappy move by Lego.
  2. A solid set that may need some modifications. My main question is why Lego put a three stud long slope on the front. It sticks out too far and looks very awkward, and it can't be fixed because of the rare color. It should have been one of these:
  3. In my opinion, Monster Fighters is the best adventure theme we've seen since Orient Expedition. The heroes are unique looking and quite fun with their semi-steampunk aesthetic, the monsters are quite varied and are excellent LEGO representations of many of the classic horror cliches, the vehicles are nicely designed, the structures are brilliantly atmospheric, the play features are nicely incorporated in to the sets without causing much annoyance, and the Haunted House is one of the best LEGO sets ever made IMO. While I don't think LEGO will continue Monster Fighters next year, I sincerely hope that they continue to produce minifigs in the collectible minifig series that fit with Monster Fighters and that they revisit the theme in a year or two.
  4. I'd love to read through some old LEGO magazines and catalogs, (By old, I mean the '90s through early '00s.) but before trying to find some on Bricklink, I'd like to know if there is a website with scans that I could look at instead. Anyone know of such a place?
  5. I was a huge fan of Arctic back in the day, so I am very intrigued by this. Hopefully this theme is more on the realistic side of the fence rather than fantastical like Ninjago or other such themes.
  6. I only got this set for a few of the parts, so I wasn't too disappointed with it, but regardless, I'm not a fan. The length does make display and storage difficult, but what bothers me the most is how sterile and clinical the whole thing is. There is no soul in the set at all. It lacks any sort of detail or little things to add character. It's the absolute minimum of what a marina like this should be, and that just doesn't work for me.
  7. I got Stephanie's Outdoor Bakery, Olivia's Invention Workshop, and the Butterfly Beauty Shop today. Here are a few pictures of the beauty shop. Gallery when public. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=493237
  8. Of course. How dense of me.
  9. I need Olviva's hair to finish my minifig of death metal legend Mikael Ã…kerfeldt; thus, she is my favorite.
  10. Only the big riding school includes more than one Friend. (Emma and Stephanie.)
  11. Something interesting I've noticed about this theme is that there is not a single set in the entire first wave that includes two or more of the main characters together. For a bunch of girls who are supposed to be such great friends, they don't seem to do things together at all. They either do things by themselves or with side characters, like the vet and waitress.
  12. Fun review and an excellent set. Why don't the normal City sets have this level of character and detail?
  13. A solid parts pack. I'll be picking this set up for Olivia's hair piece, which I shall use to complete my Mikael Akerfeldt minifig.
  14. I feel sorry for this Peter fellow. Poor guy. The token male character in a girls theme, a la Ken from Barbie. I'll wager the other normal minifig guys make fun of him constantly.
  15. This. An older Johnny Thunder as a mentor character to Jake Raines would have been outstanding. Personally, I would have preferred a return for Johnny, but Pharaoh's Quest ended up being pretty decent. My biggest issue with PQ is that LEGO is not continuing it in another location like they did with Adventurers. Amazon sets with Raines would have been marvelous for older fans like us, and they also would have had great potential for jungle monsters that would appeal to kids. I really don't think that LEGO realizes the great potential an adventuring theme has.
  16. Veteran Adventurer Gender: Male Occupation/print on torso: Modified version of Johnny Thunder's original tan torso. Type of headgear: Dark brown Johnny Thunder hat. Type of facial expression: Similar to Orient Expedition Johnny Thunder's head, but with greying hair and some wrinkles. Color on torso/legs: Black with pockets printed on it Accessory: Map and either a pistol or gem. This guy would basically be an older version of Johnny Thunder.
  17. This vignette is called Curl of the Burl, after the Mastodon song of the same name. Here are the first few lines of the song: I killed a man 'cause he killed my goat I put my hands around his throat He tried to reason with the sky and the clouds But it didn't matter, 'cause they can't hear a sound I've depicted that scene in this vignette. Without any figures.
  18. This is my sig fig. He's a medieval adventurer.
  19. Despite it's flaws, I was quite fond of KK2, however, like everyone else, I didn't like the minifigs. Back in January, I tried to make new versions that didn't look quite so gaudy. I managed to make decent versions of Bantares and Talonjay soldiers, but I was stuck on the other two provinces. Then one day, I created a design that could be used for all four provinces. The '06 newcomers, Adric and Kentis King Jayko and two Talonjay knights. The other original three; Santis, Danju, and Rascus. And here we have Santis showing how it is done. They use light bley arms and legs, dark bley, hips and hands, a torso the color of the armor, and a light pearl silver three-bar face grill helmet.
  20. Not so much an army as a squadron, but I shall post it nonetheless. They were originally designed to be soldiers from the KK2 province of Bantares, but I created a better design that will work for all four provinces, so these guys don't have a kingdom anymore.
  21. WIP. Need to make a few Bricklink orders.
  22. Way back in '07, I had the idea to make a series of minifigs and vignettes based on a fantasy story I had thought up. Unfortunately, my lack of castle parts prevented me from making any MOCs, but I did make several minifigs, including a small army I will post elsewhere. I recently started the project up again, only this time it is set immediately following the end of the KK2 storyline. The concept is very similar to that of the Heroica RPG. (Although I came up with this months before Heroica, so I'm not plagiarizing.) Anyway, here are the original four figs I made back in '07: The mysterious and powerful black knight. Rumor has it that he isn't human, but rather a massively powerful spirit trapped within an armor suit. The mighty Ankorian blacksmith turned adventurer. Was an Ankorian Shadow Knight during the Vladek Era. The cunning bandit. Occasional traveling partner of the black knight. The hardy desert ranger. Can traverse any terrain with no difficulty. Now on to my more recent creations: The ruthless pirate knight. Will do anything to get rich. Wanted in all four provinces. Britton Augustine, the dashing archer extraordinaire. All of the ladyfolk love him, but he is supremely loyal to his beautiful wife. The Aldendanian wizard. Rumored to be responsible for creating the wolfman known as Wyrf Lobo. The jovial and generous wizard Claus the Red. Adored by all. Wields a mystical hammerstaff of immense magical power. The wise yet totally amoral dragon wizard. Turned his own skin green by accident. The fierce Elite Shadow Knight commander. Was Vladek's right hand man during the wars. He hates Morcia for utterly destroying his homeland and will stop at nothing to get revenge. Brother of the Ankorian blacksmith. Sir Goff of Talonjay. Gave up his birthright to go adventuring. Ruundgin the fearsome dwarf prince and his traveling partner Dar Robin the forest tracker. Two elf scouts. Of a rarely seen race from the northeast. Llurg Gondrog, the unstoppable troll warrior, and his traveling partner Wyrf Lobo, the wolfman. Relations between the Dwarven Kingdom and the troll horde are very tense, but Gondrog cares only about the quest at hand. Wyrf Lobo's origins are shrouded in mystery, but it is clear that he is the only one of his kind, thus raising questions of magical origins. I'll be updating this thread as I make more adventurers.
  23. There is no specific time. It depends exclusively on when I feel inspired.
  24. I adore pretty much all of the '96 town sets, but this one is my Holy Grail. I lusted after this set with the furious passion of a thousand suns when I was little, but I never got it.
  25. Where did the torso and legs used for the black witch in this image come from?
