REVIEW : 8075 Neptune Carrier
Echo replied to daoudbazaar's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
My local Barnes & Noble (You read that correctly.) still has this set, probably for regular price. Should I get it? -
I got through six minutes of the first episode before turning it off. It's... not very good.
-
Lazily designed was far too strong a term. I think it's just that I'm beyond the target age group of this theme. I still think that this theme is probably a bit lower in design quality in comparison to Ninjago, the theme it was supposedly replacing, but I suppose they work well enough.
-
Minifigs are very good, but the set itself is mediocre. Good colors and parts, but I'm not a big fan of the design. It's a lion head on a Technic chassis with little detail beyond the front. Of course, I'm far beyond the target age group, but it seems lazily designed to me, as do many of the other Chima sets.

No one answered my question about Laval's tank thingie...
-
Anyone have any opinions on Laval's Royal Fighter? Its the cheapest way to get Laval and Longtooth and the price is good for the amount of pieces, but it looks like a jumbled mess of exposed Technic bits with a lion head attached to it.

You guys have given this a ridiculous amount of thought. Bravo for that. I'm afraid that my interpretation is much simpler though. I generally follow the timeline given by the thread's creator, ignoring and expanding upon various aspects as I see fit to create my own personal canon. One thing I'd like to propose is that the Nineties stuff could have occurred mostly simultaneously, other than a degree of time to allow for Classic Space to evolve in to Futuron and for Space Police and Blacktron to advance somewhat. I thick that everything from '92 through '98 happened at the same time, but at different locations in the universe. I even think that Futuron, which I personally consider to be the primary human government in LEGO Space, still exists during that time, but we just don't see it, instead focusing on explorers like IP2000 and the Exploriens, who are bravely exploring frontier areas of space. (IP2000 seems to be closer to civilization than the Exploriens were as they were still under the protection of the Space Police, whereas the Exploriens had to rely on Roboforce.) This is totally my own interpretation of things. It's not based on some obscure comic or anything; it's totally from my head.

Dude, I was making a reference to Donkey Kong Country.

Get the two summer wave human Galaxy Squad sets and some Chima. Not much this year that interests me. I'd also like to rebuild some of my old space and castle sets, but I don't know when I'll have the time for that.
-
How about the Mario series? Same general age range, massive fanbase, many Mario fans are probably LEGO fans too, and lots of potential sets to produce.

I'll wager that the gorilla tribe only gets involved in the conflict after the croc tribe steals their banana hoard. :D

The Earth Marshals... the next action theme?
Echo replied to Yatkuu's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Your designs are very nice and look very much like something LEGO could produce, but the idea itself will never get approval. LEGO would never make something that has so much potential for massive negative media backlash. Environmental stuff is highly political, whether we like it or not, and such a highly exaggerated view of the two sides of the equation that clearly takes one side over the other (The sides essentially boiling down to being the right and left of the political spectrum.) would be a very unwise PR move on the part of LEGO.- 39 replies

I second the comment about the lights. Blue seems to be for emergency/police vehicles exclusively here as well. The trucks and wreckers I see have orange/yellow lights. Anyway, I bought this set at TRU's BOGO 50% off City sale this week. It's a solid vehicle with a nice array of orange parts. The car is a bit different than the standard design also, which is good, and the lady's hairpiece in that color is new for me since I never got any Avengers sets.

I'm more than a little afraid to display my LEGO. For starters, my shelf space is considerably more limited than it was back when I was a kid, but the main reason is that I'm afraid of sun damage. My room has three windows in it, so it is impossible to avoid direct sunlight in any part of it. Anyone else have this problem?

Are the two lion vehicles normal yellow or Haz-mat Guy yellow-orange?

Here is my contribution to the campaign to raise awareness of Billy's plight: And in case anyone wants to use Billy in a wheelbarrow as an avatar or something.

As with the first wave, the human vehicles look nice, but I'm not interested in the aliens. Anyone else a bit disappointed in the lack of proper spaceships for the Squad guys? Other than the Swarm Interceptor, the Squad is mainly ground vehicles. I'm okay with that so long as the ground vehicles are as good as the Vermin Vaporizer, but it's still disappointing to see so few spaceships in a space theme.

These don't look horrible so much as they do uninspired. A very standard looking Castle theme. Does not interest me very much at the moment, but I'll wait and see how they look in higher resolution before passing too harsh a judgement.

Picked up the Warp Stinger, Swarm Interceptor, and Bug Obliterator a couple of days ago at TRU for regular price. That's right, no TRU price jacking! Amazing! The Stinger is pretty uninspiring. It's well designed and so forth, but it's just not my taste. The Interceptor is quite good, although it could probably use a modification or two to make it better. And finally, the Obliterator is pretty interesting. I like the tank part by itself and the ship by itself, but combined, they look a bit odd. It took me a while to realize why, but I think it is because when they are combined, they look like they'd fly as well as a block of concrete. My solution to that is to think of the combined form as a heavy tank rather than a spacecraft. Overall, I like this theme well enough. The squad members are excellent figures and their vehicles are well designed despite the combination gimmick, but the aliens are dull. The figures are decent, but their vehicles look more like very odd giant animals than spacecraft, with the exception of the Space Swarmer, which is quite nice.

Actually, I got it at the same time as the Vaporizer and built it right after finishing the Vaporizer. Yeah, 7066 is amazing, but the Vaporizer is better. I'd say that 7066 is third on the list.
-
I acquired the Vermin Vaporizer and Space Swarmer yesterday. The Swarmer is a very nice little army builder, but the Vaporizer is utterly transcendent. Easily takes a place behind the Mega Core Magnetizer as the second best wheeled space set ever.
-
The TRU near me still has 7066 Earth Defense HQ for $90. Is it worth the purchase?
-
This reminds me a lot of Ninjago in that I don't really have all that much interest in the sets, but the minifigs are excellent.
-
Any sightings of these at Target or Wal-Mart yet?

Is TRU jacking up the prices on these?
