  1. Having finished his bowl of stew at the bar, Skrall turned around to survey the room. It seemed a few of the more senior heroes were returning to the hall and he noted Boomingham's presence across the hall engaged in conversation with a scruffy looking individual. Ordering three goblets and a flask of wine, the ogre made his way over to the pair. "Gentlemen, may I interest you in a drink?"
  2. Lovely quest Flare, the builds were excellent, the characters memorable, the timing upbeat, and the plot nice and tidy. As QM to QM I have to say that the side quest was not necessary and borders from an outside readers perspective on vengeful. Yes we all have our friendly rivalries, but those should NEVER play themselves out cross quest. Side quests should nearly always be conditional, if they happen, it is of the players own choosing to participate not because they were forced to participate, otherwise it would be the same as randomly selecting a hero out of the hall and forcing them to do battle out of the blue with consequences. Steer clear of those types of scenarios in the future and I'm sure we'll see many more great quests from you.
  3. Vermin or Beasts I'm sort of in the same boat as Brickdoctor, spent a lot of time with Kaliphilin, but didn't have time for QMing and Historica. One of these days I'd like to go back. You actually have a fair amount of SP due to that helmet, so perhaps an upgrade in WP would be in order. Alternatively you could upgrade your shield and look at purchasing consumables. As a knight, your job is to soak up hits and keep your party safe. You can do this by purchasing nostrums in order to increase your chances of rolling sentinel or purchase smelling salts to absorb more free hits by being hastened. I'd recommend staying away from meads as only 2/6 of your rolls do damage.
  4. The issue though is if you want to kill by "a Thousand Cuts" your enemies need to last long enough to deliver those thousand cuts, which means you have to boost their health up to large amounts which ends up dragging out the battle. I generally aim to have a difficult enemy capable of defeating a hero in 2 hits, a medium enemy in 3-4 hits, and minions 4-5.
  5. Mages are generally termed "glass cannons" as they tend to have high damage outputs due to elemental rock-paper-scissors, but are fragile when it comes to taking damage. Mystic knights are something along the Pyrex variety of this categorization.
  6. Haven't you learned that my quest pitches are deceivingly ordinary yet?
  7. Ah, I missed out on the leveling debate. Anyways, regarding gaining experience for outside battle activities, quest 65 is puzzle based with only 5 optional battles, so there will definitely be experience being given for creative solutions to puzzles. Skyrimguy, quest 65 is aimed for ~2 months, maybe a little less.
  8. However you'll have to take a round to use the grand potion, where as if you spent those two rounds doing damage without sacrificing HP, you'll still be at 200 dmg after the two rounds.
  9. Current Signups for Quest 65: 1. Jon “Sarge” Mcency, Level 13 Rogue (Skyrimguy) 2. Haldor Skovgaard, Level 25 2/3 Shaman (Scorpiox) 3. Alexis Fenral, Level 28 2/3 Assassin (Masked Builder) 4. Dyric Rone, Level 20 1/3 Assassin (The Legonator) 5. Kiray Nastayo, Level 1 Knight (KingoftheZempk) 6. Nerwen Calmcacil, Level 18 1/2 Shaman (Chromeknight) 7. Grimwald Gjinko, Level 1 Cleric (LordoftheNoobs) 8. Sir Brickington, Level 6 Knight (Brickington) 9. Cronk, Level 30 Paladin (CorneliusMurdock) 10. Nyx, Level 25 2/3 Battle Mage (Pandora) Note: Partially due to a change in my schedule, sign-ups are being extended till the 19th of March, Sandy if you could make the change on the quest board. Thanks.
  10. Have you been looking at my inital designs of Quest 65 that included a bat-themed vigilante?
  11. Only when the QM comes up with Specials that actually hurt his own enemies.
  12. Depends if Atramor and Haldor are coming along.
  13. Like Masked said, you'll want a few for Sandy to see. Speaking from past experience, I'd make sure you have nearly everything built/photographed by the time the quest starts. Players have a nasty habbit of getting through certain parts of your quest unexpectantly quickly and it's good to have the next scene on hand rather than trying to play catch up and build as you go.
  14. Hey Endgame, how does one deal with Paladins?
  15. In my defense I was unaware that Sandy was planning another quest till just the other day and how is Skrall ever supposed to quest with Boomingham if he has to keep on going on my quests. Legonator, is that Vonnetate's head?
  16. Skrall ordered another tankard of ale from Scheherazade and a bowl of stew. "So was it pretty much like this when Heroica first started?"
  17. Don't pigeon hole yourself into thinking one or the other, there's nothing saying you can't have good RP opportunities as an Assassin/Raider.
  18. "Regulus, sit yerself down. Before I have a mind to sit ya down myself. Every man is free to his opinion, and sometime that opinion is gonna hurt when it's spoken out loud. That's all part of what comes from mistakes. I understand what you did, but that doesn't mean I approved of it and as much as ya'd like to change it, one man's mistake may rightfully be viewed as another's willingful intent to do harm. If you can't accept that part and the shame it brings with it, then don't go yellin' at others for callin' it what it was. Yer on the road to makin' things right, but don't think ya've made it to the end yet Arthur." Skrall picked up his tankard and moved over to the bar for another.
  19. "Make sure ya know the difference 'tween bein' in love with someone and lovin' that someone."
  20. Skrall took a sip of his ale, "Haven't all beings if they live long enough?"
  21. "Short-term employment that turned into a habit. I've dabbled in a good number of occupations in my time and heroing was about as low as I could sink. Mind if I sit?" The ogre motioned to a chair at the rogues table.
  22. Skrall glanced over at the man before retorting back, "Depends which one pays more!"
  23. Agreed, I meant to dissuade people from thinking that those examples I mentioned are the only types of "big defining moments".
  24. Great entertaining article Flipz, it's good to see this topic updated. I agree Zepher, Pie, Scuba, and Corny are some of my favorite back-stories to watch unfold because they are paced at such an amazing rate without their characters being solely dependent upon them. A tip on back-stories, remember, characters don't necessarily have to have those, what we like to call "big defining moments". There are plenty of banishments, family massacres , desertions, and treacheries out there, sometimes it's the simple yet unique things about a character's back-story that can make them come alive and peak interests. A great example is LordoftheNoobs' character is a gnomish ex-janitor, talk about ordinary, yet totally unique. Like Flipz said, keep it loose and let your character be written by the present and not just by the past.
  25. Using them outside of combat is legal, however I believe you still need to roll for it.
