Heroica RPG - Quest #53: Chaos in Eubric
Waterbrick Down replied to Zepher's topic in The Heroica Archive
OoC: Looks alright to me. Atramor was about to finish Chaos off, now might be his only chance. Unstrapping the Precision Bow, he let loose an arrow at Chaos if he failed to fall to the witch's blade and his remaining arrow at Wren from the back row. -

OoC: Zepher will the Chaos beasts that are dropped after Chaos is defeated get free hits after they are released? Skrall watched Atramor advance on Chaos, he paused bolt in hand, "Hans, Felton, go after that Chaos Beast of Death, from the front row." -

OoC: Not exactly sure why you rolled twice for Skrall, as he isn't Lucky, but I don't mind. Also, I noted Skrall's defense isn't taking his tricorne into account currently. BO looks good to me Pandora. "Careful Felton, stick with me but make sure to stay back. Hans, split off and take on that new beast of Death with Cronk from the front row." Skrall methodically reloaded and fired again at Chaos from the back row, he yearned to turn his aim upon Wren but he knew it would serve no purpose for the time being. His satisfaction would have to wait. -
Has anyone considered a black knight/cleric team combo? If the numbers are in your favor enemy wise, you could have a black knight completely drain their health and then just have a cleric heal them at the end of each round. While you're a little dependent upon the roll of the die, I can see you adding an extra 30ish extra damage to your basic hit, which isn't too shabby.

Skrall reloaded and fired again twice at Chaos from the back row. "Hans, take him from the right, Felton the left, try and open up his defenses so I can get a shot off, remember to stay back though." -

The doors to the temple slowly opened. There she was, his quarry, his thrill, his pain, his misery, his beauty, his satisfaction... Wren "This day will be either your or my last, Wren. Savor it while you can. Hold onto it while you dare. Relish it for the fleeting moment before the die is cast, for now at the end of things, there can exist only one outcome." "Felton, Hans, yer with me boys. Stick to the back row." Skrall hefted his crossbow and aimed for the swirling void of Chaos from the back row. -
I believe Guts is. Amlchemist is one of my favorite classes, I can't picture Skrall going into that role though, so maybe my secondary character.

Depends upon my mood, I generally try to aim for something fitting the character as far as surnames go. Minotaur->Swifthorn, Mermen ->Greenscale, etc... Some races have naming conventions associated with them already, the U'kin, Grumplings, Orcs, and Werehounds for example. When creating a new naming scheme I try to base it off of an existing cultural or geographical location. Lucustoids for example, hail from the Desert of Abra which I pictured as having something of a Saudi Arabian influence and thus chose names that sounded like they were from that area. Sometimes I'm feeling punny and I'll try something witty such as basing Rockling names on known geological groups. Other times I'm lazy and just label something in a general form, i.e. Crowkin Thug, Goblin Fisherman, etc. I like having continuity so if there's already an example of something out there, I try to stick to what's already been established.

Was that what he had been reduced to? Had he spent his entire wanderings lost and forlorn looking for something to satisfy him, looking for that "beauty" and everytime coming up with nothing but emptiness and misery? What was he, nothing but an old Ogre that had seen better days. What would be his legacy? His children? His exploits as a fighter for the oppressed orc? His time with Heroica that only ammounted to failures in one way or another? Was that why he hunted Wren? Was that why he pushed on? Some achievement to overshadow the misery that seemed to hound him like a beast from Hel? Skrall swigged his last Mead, the invigorating liquid mixing with the blood from a broken tooth. Try as he may, he could not banish the thoughts from his head. -

OoC: Skrall's power is 37 not 24 and thus should have done more 222 damage. Also since, he's wearing the Hunter's Quiver, his WP is 13 not 11. "Another one bites, the dust." Skrall fired again at the Chaos Beast of Life from the back row. "Healers make sure everyone's up to full health before we finish this last one off." -
I look at the battle order and then just move everything accordingly (much easier than copying and pasting) from the last battle round. I can see it being frustrating if you're retyping it every time for a summery, but no one's forcing you to do that remember.

"Yer, going to have to do better than that McColt, if ya want to light a fire under me." Skrall launched a bolt at Chaos Beast C from the back row preparing to attack the Chaos Beast of Life if his previous target fell first. -
I disagree, having QM'd 3 quests, I can say while not as exciting, just saying you repeat your action isn't a problem at all, since I'm just quoting the last battle round anyways.

As long as I have enough gold for a weapons upgrade or 2, some consumables, and a little left to save up for equipment, I'm generally a happy camper. As a QM, I generally try to restrain myself to one semi-rare item per PC. Quest 54 for example, featured a grating stone, a new scroll, and a pretty nice artifact and that was about it. As others have said, there's nothing wrong with drops of gold, consumables, or plain weapons.

Edit: Ah, thank you Psykater for the correction. The statistics page needs to be updated I guess.

Skrall fired again. -
A few thoughts, first off I think you've got a pretty good cast of enemies. Be careful with the undead with lower level heroes, remember they can only be harmed by elemental weapons, spells, bombs, or healing, 3 of those 4 are nearly nonexistant with the newest group of heroes. A few options are to make sure you drop the necessary drops before hand, have a friendly NPC cleric join the party, or consider making them of the "dark" type instead of "undead". As to the suitcase, I wouldn't mind too much seeing it in the game. Currently there are only two other perma-hastened items and one is exclusive to rangers. Of the three main positive effects, hastened isn't too bad, but again such items can have bad reception with other QM's, remember you may enjoy hosting a permenantly hastened PC, but there might be some other QM's who won't, just look at the history of the Lucky Die as an example. If you want to add some balance to the item consider having it have actually negative aspects to counter it positive aspects, for example being SP or Health or Ether: -2, or perhaps 1 ether is expended up every other round the item is equipped. The flail is alright, % effects tend to be more balanced than weapons with perma-staus effects. Overall, things are looking good.

Another week or two and the 1st part of my trilogy should be ready for sign-ups.

If anyone's going to grab that title, it's the participants of Quest 6. You can buy all the items there. Some items are from specific quests that heroes sold back to the shop, thus there is a limited number of those items, which is why they have the ~1 in stock~ next to them. There's an infinite number of the rest of the items that don't have that designation.

OoC: Just a few points, Skrall isn't equipping the Doubloon and thus doesn't have special guard. Also, it still says Skrall favors beasts instead of ancients and the Chaos beast of Death health hasn't been updated accordingly. Skrall took a step back, the fiend hadn't done much damage, but the other-planeness of its touch was nigh unbearable. Reloading, the ogre fired again at the beast of death. "Back to the abyss with ya." -
Welcome Eric Su! Indeed you are doing this right, though Heroica Hall is pretty friendly so I'm not sure whose head you dropped an icicle on. All of the current quests sign-ups have closed, but I believe Capt.JohnPaul is possibly cooking up a new one and I am just about finished with the 1st part of a trilogy quest that should have sign-ups open soon as well. So sit tight, interact with the people in the hall, visit the marketplace, or the library, or the embassy, or if you want to try your luck in the arena, and eventually a new quest will show up on the 1st page of the hall topic requesting sign-ups.

Same here, which is why I dropped out. Sorry I couldn't stick it out with you guys. Bob, the presentation/story was good and it looked like it was an enjoyable game for those who participated. I am glad to see some of the newer players really starting to get into their stride and look forward to having another go at all of this at some point soon.

OoC: Apparently my last post never posted. Sorry yes, Skrall did favor ancient and dropped the beast favoring. Skrall shook his head, the fog of battle lifting as he reloaded and fired again at the Chaos beast of Death from the back row. -

OoC: Now this is a battle. Switch out the Doubloon for the Tricorne, also Skrall should be at full health due to Natural Respite. The darkness was pierced by the eerie glow of the temple, Skrall loaded a bolt as the chaos beasts approached, "Hello lovelies. Don't mind us, we're just takin' the scenic route to stoppin' yer master." Skrall let loose a bolt at Chaos Beast of Death from the back row.
