Small Autovalve
afol1969 replied to Tamas Juhasz's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I've already built an tested it on my logging truck, to make open/close the grapple. It works well, and indeed, you need a tight 8 tooth gear to prevent blocking or popping off. Greetings Alex- 30 replies

Hi all, As I've told in other postings, that I was creating my own version of the full RC Logging truck. Or to say better: A combination of two versions. The double wheel creation is from Designer Han, and the motorized creation from Sunnykoomos. With little own modifications. My real intention to make the modifications is to create instructions with MLCAD, to rebuild the set if I need. The Logging Truck was the first technic set I bought, it was a gift for my son's birthday. To have more fun to play with, I came on the idea to modify it. But as I'm a technic newbie, I have to learn from other technic fans skills. The ldraw file I've finally finished, now I try to create instructions in a pdf file. I still have to find out the LPUB page setup for best results. The two files will come soon for download, in two/three days. But here the first images: http://www.brickshel.../9397fullrc.png http://www.brickshel...ts/p1030617.jpg The ldraw file only contains the chassis with the modifications, the rest can be build from the instructions book. I hope the result is not too bad, because it is my first creation of instructions, and I still have to learn working with MLCAD/LPUB. Greetings Alex

[MOD] 8285 with trailer
afol1969 replied to ed-orange's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yes, the trailer is strong bending under the weight from the 42009. But you can reach more stability by using studded technic bricks. Or you look in the instructions form Designer Han's detachable lowloader: http://www.designer-han.nl/lego/ There you can see he had the same problem to solve. Your trailer looks very good, surely you'll find the motivation to modify ist for more stability;). I have the plan to build the Lowloader from Designer Han, I'll test the stability, and maybe I find an another solution to get more stabilitiy to the trailer. I have the idea to put long metal axles through the pin holes from the bricks, but first I have to find them with exact thickness like technic axles. Another solution ist a pair of wheels in the middle, but I don't think if it comes good to the trailer design.... Greetings Alex -
I've sent him an email yesterday, so I wait for response. At the moment I'm building the Ultimate 42009, but I've stopped, I still need the motors for my Logging Truck until I will finish the instructions. Some note for the 42009: Be careful to make the outtrigger gears in exact position shown in the instructions, otherwise the outtrigers don't work, one foot goes down, and the other goes up. It seems there are some parts shown twice in the part list, I'll rewiev the instructions again and take notes of the steps which are not very clear. Greetings Alex

Hi Sunnykoo, Thank you for presenting you new modification of the 9397. Very interseting the crane modification with pneumatics and two Micromotor. Well, from yor LDD file, there was a missing 8 tooth gear between the crane motors, otherwise you can't put it between the drive axle. An I missed the steering, so I have developed a steerind drive with a worm gear. At the moment I'm make instructions with MLCAD, I have made some little modifications, an if I'm finished, I'll publish it for download. I think I'll finish in two or three weeks. Do you have instructions from you new modified truck? Sorry from "stealing" from others technic developings and ideas, but I'm still a newbie in Lego technic, so I cannot create MOC's from scratch, my working is build, modify, study, modify again.... Maybe you have seen this: It will give a nice look for the truck crane too.... Best greetings Alex

Yes, the rear ist the creation from Han, I have made some little modification to install the battery box. For the motor placements I've taken the inspiration from here: There's a LDD file to download, but it's not complete and has some errors, so I had to make more modifications to get all functions. The steering mod is my own creation, for a more smooth control.

The trailer looks very cool, nice MOC :) I'm just trying to make MLCAD instructions for my logging truck with 6 motors / full RC an double wheels. I hope that I'll have success because I never worked with MLCAD before. Here's the chassis:

8258 vs 8110 vs 42009
afol1969 replied to Waterkamp's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi, As I don't have the 42009, I can only compare with the 8421xl: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=533533 -
Hi Dreadredbeard, It's sad to see that you'll sell all you Technic collection, but you surely have your reasons. As I've seen the detailed photos from your collection, there are a lot of parts wich would be interesting for me, because I've some future big building projects. I do not end on buying on bricklink, so it would be helpful if I can get a bigger lot in one time. If you're willing to sell in partial lots, just send a PM. Best greetings and good luck Alex

Hi there, I've finally finished to build the Ultimate 8043 http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/20/252320/3264356562623838.jpg But I had some problems with the instructions where some steps are not very clear that I'd made some mistakes before I arrived to finish the 8043 with fully working functions. So I've decided to combine the instructions with more photos and signs to pieces to better see where they belong. I've made the first part of the instructions, here some examples: http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/20/252320/3438623033666338.jpg http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/20/252320/6236383133326561.jpg http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/20/252320/3761323862353439.jpg Hope I'll finish the instructions during next week Greetings Alex

[MOC] Swingloader Mark Two
afol1969 replied to D3K's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Wow!!! Amazing MOC and high-quality Instructions, you should work for Lego ;) I think I'll build it in future time, if it was done, I'll send you pictures - and maybe notes for some modifications. I'm not able to build MOC's from scratch, but mostly I find possibilities to make some fine-tuning :-) Greetings Alex -
Hi Jurgen, I have the 88000 AA-box from the Passenger Train left, so I can use it. But how much PF Receiver Units does the Ultimate 42009 need? I think I've to dismatle my fully remote controlled "Ultimate" 9397 to use the PF parts (first I've to make instructions :-X ....) and I have some extension cables to buy. Ok, I see, there's again a lot of work...... Greetings Alex

Hi all, here some pictures of the 8421xl I've built some time ago: Sorry, I've some problems with text editing/formatting, I don't know why....For the 8421xl: I'll dismantle it next time to make some modifications and for motorizing. As I'll have nearly all pieces to built the 42009 Ultimate, I'll build it und try to combine with the 8421xl. And with instructions. At the Moment I've just finished with the Ultimate 8043, it works well. Instructions/photos are made, but I've still to have make some corrections in cause of mistakes, so I'll dismatle it partially to make corrections in the instructions/make new photos.Greetings Alex

Hi, Some days ago I got the 9398 for 112 € at amazon. Because of the hype of the 41999, the prices of the 9398 are rather cheap now. If you can have the Unimog at a good price, take it! I think it will be out of production in next time that will raise the prices. A nice set ist also the 42008. The truck in green colour ist great, so I've bought it too. Greetings Alex

Hi Jurgen, I'm looking forward to the Ultimate 42009. At the moment I'm building the Ultimate 8043, but I've some problems with the instructions, it's not easy to follow all steps, I've made construction mistakes and have to start all over again. I plan to make new more detailed step-by-step instructions. About the mobile crane: I've the 8421, and I've build the 8421 XL from Han's site. It would be great to combine the model with the 42009 and create an Ultimate XL 42009. ;) Greetings Alex

I've buit the 8421xl, and it works fine. But I found there is some space for modifications to optimize. It's true that the chain breaks easily, it's to notice to take a supplementary chain link to have enough space for the driving. In next time I'll try to motorize it (driving/steering) I'd bought the 8421 and extra parts from bricklink. Later I'll built the 42009 too to find the Pro's and Con's, maybe I can combine the 8421xl with the 42009.
